KUALA LUMPUR: Just when the doctors thought Tee Hui Yi’s heart transplant was successful, the danger signs appeared.Her frail body was rejecting the new heart. Pushing aside the fatigue that gnawed at them, the team of doctors at the National Heart Institute (IJN) went into overdrive as they laboured to save Hui Yi.They pumped drugs into the 14-year-old’s body in a bid to coax it to accept the new heart — to no avail. SEREMBAN: A construction supervisor and his wife nearly had a little “extra protein” in their sandwiches on Thursday. Mohd Rafi Mohd Kamal found a dead cockroach in a loaf of bread he bought from a grocery shop near his Seremban 2 home.“I didn’t notice anything wrong with the bread until I got to the last few slices. I found a dead cockroach sandwiched between them,” said the 31-year-old.He says his wife Shukrina Abdullah fell ill after eating a few slices from the same end of the loaf where the cockroach was found.“She was vomiting and had diarrhoea. The doctor said it might have been caused by the contaminated bread,” said Rafi, adding that he noticed a few spots of mould on the bread even though the expiry date on the label was Oct 6. The SIM card, which an Indonesian woman (picture) swallowed when she was picked up in connection with the murder of Nurin Jazlin Jazimin, was fl ushed out at noon yesterday. The card is believed to be at the forensics department to be analysed. The 23-year-old suspect had undergone an X-ray at 9am and the card was detected near the anus. It is learnt that doctors used special equipment to pull out the SIM card. The woman, who refused to eat and was on a liquid diet during the fi ve-day stay at University Malaya Medical Centre, was discharged at 12.30pm. KLANG: A young blogger caused a storm in her school after she wrote that some fellow students had exchanged notes during a recent examination. The Form Four girl said the copycats were unfair to others, adding that those who cheated eventually scored high marks while those who did not, got low grades. She further claimed that the teachers who knew what was going on during the examination deliberately ignored the incident. Her grouses prompted the school authorities to order her to remove her entry in the blog. A schoolmate of the 16-year-old girl said she broke down and felt she had been victimised merely because she wanted justice to prevail. The friend said the blogger had named the alleged copycat students and the teachers, and this had probably upset the school authorities. HALF the battle has been won for mechanical heart girl Tee Hui Yi, 14. She has been transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital after undergoing a heart operation which started at 10pm last night after a donor was located.The family of a 15-year-old accident victim from Ipoh donated the heart and lungs to the National Heart Institute. The heart arrived at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 1.15am this morning.The heart and lungs of the 15-year old accident victim were harvested by a 13-member team from IJN, who were flown to Ipoh by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).The team left Kuala Lumpur at 7pm last night on board the CN235 from the Detachment No 1 Squadron based in Subang. KUALA LUMPUR: According to a global survey, Mala ysians have little to complain about in their more intimate moments. The 62 per cent who say they are more than satisfied with what takes place behind closed doors, puts Malays ia in sixth place among the 26 countries polled in the Durex Sexual Wellbeing Global Survey 07/08.Malaysia beat the global average of 50 per cent by 12 percentage points.But leading the charge is Nigeria, followed by Mexico, India, Brazil and China.The survey polled 1,026 heterosexuals in Malaysia. More than 26,000 people were surveyed globally. The country also scored quite high in frequency, with 35 per cent saying they do it three times a week or more. (The global average is 10 per cent). Five arrested in connection with Nurin's murder

SHAH ALAM: Five people including a woman have been arrested in connection with the murder of eight-year-old Nurul Jazlin Jazimin here on Thursday. A team of police officers from the Petaling Jaya and Selangor police at about 11.30pm picked up the five aged between 27 and 33 from several locations in Section 7 here. It is learnt one of the five, a man in his 30s, has a string of criminal records including sexual assault cases here and in several other states. CID director Commissioner Datuk Christopher Wan Soo Kee said the arrests were made possible following information from the public. Bar Council to take action against lawyer in video recording

KUALA LUMPUR: The Bar Council is moving to take disciplinary action against the lawyer caught on video in 2002 for allegedly seeking to influence judicial appointments. Sources said the lawyer's alleged misconduct was the only agenda set for an emergency council meeting called for tomorrow, following the video recording's release on Thursday."The video tape issue and the action to be taken against the lawyer will be discussed at the meeting," a source said.The Bar Council, as the complainant, would refer the matter to the Disciplinary Board set up under the Legal Profession Act 1976.The council would first issue a show-cause letter to the respondent for an explanation, which, if unsatisfactory, would then be referred to the board. IPOH: A woman was awarded some RM87,000 in a High Court here after she sued her ex-boyfriend for breaking his promise to marry her.Justice Mohd Azman Husin ruled that legal clerk S. Nagamah, 38, had proven her claim against legal office administrator R. Punnosamy, 41.He said he found Nagamah’s testimony to be more convincing than Punnosamy’s and ordered him to pay RM50,000 for breaching his promise to marry her.Another RM2,000 was awarded to Nagamah as compensation for assault, when Punnosamy had slapped her in 2002 after she had supposedly threatened his fiancée at a tuition centre in Teluk Intan.Justice Mohd Azman also ordered Punnosamy to pay RM20,000 for Nagamah’s mental anguish and loss of reputation, name and honour, as well as costs.Nagamah’s counsel S. Boy's testicles stuck in pipe after fall

FM: Talk about bad luck... BUKIT MERTAJAM: A screaming 9-year-old was rushed to hospital with his testicles stuck in a metal pipe. The boy had to endure the pain for almost 30 minutes before doctors operated on him and removed the pipe. The incident happened at the boy’s home in Kampung Baru here at 10.15pm on Sunday. It is learnt that the boy was having a bath when his younger brother called out to him from an adjacent room. He climbed up the bathroom partition to see why his brother was making a ruckus when he slipped and landed on an uncovered metal pipe which runs into the concrete water tank. His father, 50, rushed into the bathroom and was shocked to see his son lying on the floor with his testicles stuck in the pipe.
