Conserve Energy.
2007-08-04 08:27:00 For the true environment buff or the true power saver, there are already many ways to save money and energy; bio-diesal, electric cars, solar energy etc etc. But here's a way you can contribute to saving energy: go to http://www.blackle.com/ to do your google searches instead of google.com (the results are served by Google of course) You should notice that the background for the site is black. (this saves energy because your monitor needs less power to display a dark screen) Brilliant idea indeed, whatsay? The site claims to have saved 129,669.593 Watt hours at the time or witting this post already. Whatever that means. But I'd advice that youto bookmark the site as your homepage instead of Google. It should help you save some money on your electricity bill as well!!Related:-Global Warming.Monsoon Pattern. More About: Environment , Money , Energy , Conserve , Serve

Mixed Emotions...
2007-08-03 08:07:00 After a long time, I woke up today at 6 00 in the morning and then thought that I should go for a walk & run outside and headed to Five Gardens. After just 2 rounds over there however, the rains started pouring heavily and I was caught un-aware without a raincoat or an umbrella. I hadn't even carried much money for a cab, just had a 5 rs coin for bus fare back. I took shelter under a bus stop there and was stuck there for about 2 hours waiting for the only bus from that stop which goes to my place. The rain thankfully slowed down after that and I finally moved out, having to walk back to my house because of the huge traffic jam that had formed by now [the buses even if they had come would have taken me atleast an hour instead of the 15 mins it actually took] So, not only do I didn't get some exercise today, I also got completely soaked. No mercy for anyone - The message that they want us to get.
2007-07-31 12:02:00 Sanjay Dutt, one of the biggest stars in bollywood has today been sentenced to a term of 6 years in jail for illegal possession of an Ak-56, 9 mm pistol and temporary possession of some hand grenades as well. All of these came from Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar; the man who features in FBI's top 10 wanted list and is India's most wanted criminal. This sentence more than any other handed out in this case perhaps sends a clear message that the Law intends to be very tough with terrorists in India. The important part is that Sanjay Dutt is a hindu who was quite remotely involved in an act of Islamic terrorism committed 14 years ago by Dawood Ibrahim, Tiger Memon & Co. He is also a celebrity with tens of millions of fans including me. But all of this has been ignored and he has been sentenced. Maybe the sentence will stop anyone in the future from wanting to tread down the path of anything illegal...Related:-Last Death Sentence Handed out in the Mumbai Bombings Case. The first Death Sentence in... Miracle of Birth in Mumbai Locals
2007-07-30 09:17:00 Meena Gupta (25) yesterday gave birth to a baby boy on a Chruchgate fast local. She was accompanied by her husband, Haripal & a neighbour. The trio was headed for the KEM hospital in Lower Parel. She went in to labour pains in between Bandra & Dadar. The birth took place beneath a seat in the second class general compartment and the umbilical cord was cut using a pair of scissors which a co passenger gave. Meena and her new-born were later admitted to the Sion Hospital by the Police. The doctors there anounced them fine and only then did everyone involved heave a sigh of relief. I can only imagine the helplessness, confusion and chaos everyone in that compartment including Haripal must have felt.Interestingly, this is the second time in a matter of 3 months a birth has taken place in one of the coaches of the Mumbai Local trains. Could be some compensation for all the lives which are lost in it as well.Related:-Beaten to death for standing at the train door. The Great Indian Rail... More About: Travel , Miracle , Birth , Mira
Air-Conditioned Local Trains In Mumbai?
2007-07-29 12:45:00 Ever since Lalu Yadav, the current Railway Minister bragged that the Railways is considering running Air-Conditioned Local Trains in Mumbai , there have been rumours of Air Conditioned Local Trains for Mumbai and many have wanted this. But the city's desire for an Air-Conditioned local on its suburban line may not be satiated in the near future now with a senior Railway official saying they would first need to study whether the proposal was feasible. "We would need to evaluate whether an entire train should be air-conditioned or just one coach should be converted. Also factors like the timing and other details would need to be studied before taking a decision," Batra, the Chairman Of The Railway Board has said. Frankly speaking, I don't see it ever happening in Mumbai. These trains would require that there be automatic doors on the compartments and that they close before the train starts, but how can that be accomplished on the crazy western and central railway lines in Mumbai? Vulgar Ads now off air...
2007-07-28 09:21:00 Two underwear ads which were raising eyebrows ever since they were aired have now been banned. The ads one of which contains a very very sexy model playing a kam wali bai washing a male underwear getting seduced and orgasming followed by the Punch line Amul Macho - "crafted for fantasies", were deemed rightly I think to have sexually provocative content. There is this big debate now about the whole thing primarily because crores of rupees had been spent in these ad campaigns. A lesson for all advertisers now that they can not use sexual content alone to sell their products lest their expensively made ads be banned. You can watch the great ad here on youtube. All in all I am just disappointed I won't be seeing the sexy chic doing her thing on TV again :( More About: News , Politics , Vulgar
Kiran Bedi ko gussa kyon aaya...
2007-07-27 13:53:00 Every one was taken by surprise when Kiran Bedi lashed out at the government and alleged that there is a gender bias in our country when it comes to selecting people for top positions. There are fixed procedures for choosing the commissioner of Police she said and they had been ignored when Dadwal, her junior was appointed as the Commissioner of Police for Delhi day before yesterday. It is yet another clear cut case of internal bureaucratic fall out and Kiran Bedi perhaps feels that her gender had more to do it than any other reason. I don't blame her for being upset, she was the first women IPS officer in the country, she is widely regarded as a tough no nonsense patriotic cop and she deserved to be promoted to the rank of commissioner. Let's see if the country comes out in support for her and makes sure that this injustice is undone...Technorati Tags :-kiran bedigender bias More About: News , Politics , India , Kyon
Last death sentence pronounced for Mumbai bombings
2007-07-27 13:29:00 Yakub Memon, a brother of the main accused, fugitive Tiger Memon, was the last of those convicted in the case for whom prosecutors had sought the death sentence. The four remaining convicts, including Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, are expected to be sentenced next week. They face a maximum punishment of up to 10 years in prison for possessing illegal arms bought from those involved in the attacks. One thing is for sure, if Sanjay Dutt is convicted as well, there will a big hue and cry about it. Read the rest of the story if you wish here. More About: Politics , Terror , Mumbai , Death
30 things that haven't changed in Mumbai
2007-07-26 23:52:00 Well, many things haven't changed in Mumbai over the years and I am glad that some of them haven't changed. The list is by no means complete. First and foremost, "Mumbai" still is "Mumbai" and not "Shanghai". Here are the rest:-1. The Local Trains still are the life line of Mumbai. (They probably will be for eternity or at least until Mumbai is around; whichever is earlier)2. It still takes practice and lot of endurance to be able to travel in them. (Especially in the western and central lines)3. The BEST bus conductors still haggle for change whenever possible. 4. Mumbai still gets flooded every year during the monsoons and then everybody blames the BMC for it (Poor BMC)5. The pot-holes, bad roads which accompany the monsoons add to the charm.Wada Pavs, Bhajiya Pavs, Bhel Puri, etc are still the staple food for the travelling Mumbaikar. The half glasses of tea that you get at countless tea stalls around Mumbai are still called 'Cutting' and the pani kam variety still exists.You... 25 things that have changed in Mumbai.
2007-07-24 16:55:00 Like any place, time has brought about some changes in the economic capital of India . Some of the most openly visible changes are:- 1. The name has changed from Bombay to Mumbai and some old-timers are still unhappy about it. 2. Traffic has increased many times over which of course is no fun time. 3. Fiat padmini, Ambassador and a couple of Maruti-Suzuki cars aren't the only ones you see on the road now and old timers seem to be happy about this. The same can be said about the two wheeler markets as well. In fact the automobile market in Mumbai & the rest of India is a very competitive market with many of the world's leading players in India.Travelling in the local trains & BEST busses in Mumbai is no longer "Fun" and or "Nostalgic" but a torture perhaps a way for God to remind us how animals feel when we transport them this way.South Mumbai is not where all the action is now. Suburbs like Bandra are great places to shop, have fun or live as well. You probably go to shop at t... More About: Money , Chill out , Things
Bill Clinton should have been India's president....
2007-07-24 13:44:00 Though Pratibha Patil is now the official president of India, Swalpa Sihi woul have chosen Bill Clinton if she had her way. Here are her arguments in Clintons' favour :9) The post of President is a titular one. There are no executive powers. So how does it matter, who gives a fish, as to who is Prez?8) If he could be the leader of the free world, the President of the United States of America , for eight long years, surely signing autographs, smiling for the photo-ops must be a walk in the Rose Garden for Bill?7) If we can have a foreigner as coach of the Indian cricket team, why can?t we have a foreigner as President?8) Sure, Kalam was a People?s President, who opened the doors of the Rashtrapati Bhavan to everybody and met a lot of kids. ?Slick Willy? would be more than willing to do that at any time of day or night, especially night.5) Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi could do with a bit of good advice, and maybe Chelsea Clinton could do with a bit of sight-seeing around the world?s larg... Going Places.
2007-07-23 16:15:00 Mumbai is a great city but to be honest, it can get on your nerves once in a while. The same old commute to work/school etc and then coming back home in the evenings, watching T.V in our cramped apartments and then sleeping to wake up to another similar day routine can wear you down and suck out that gumption leaving you drained, irritable and tired all the time. I need to escape the city at least for a weekend every now and then just to keep my batteries recharged. This time, me and a couple of friends of mine are planning to go for a weekend trip to the Bhimashankar Jyoti Linga. This is one of the twelve jyoti lings of Lord Shiva. The reason why this one is special is that it is located at foot of a hill and is surrounded by Mountains on all sides. Moreover the place is heaven during the monsoons. So the trip brings you close to mother nature and God as well. It's a sure fire way to kill two birds with a stone. The downside is that my sony cybershot has stopped working (it only ... Where to get drinks/booze in Mumbai... at 2 or 3 in the morning!!
2007-07-19 21:15:00 Yeah this information needs to be shared for all those who might feel like a binge at odd hours after crashing in a pub or elsewhere and it's time to push out. People who are either new to Mumbai or new to such impulses which cause one to use his/her time in the most constructive manner - getting drunk and doing crazy things through the night may not know where to score the booze and this is a short FAQ for them. A very dear and old friend of mine has been in Mumbai (He works in Delhi) for the last 5 days and together we have discovered the joys of drinking till the early morning hours. Alas, no matter how painful this realization may be but I have realized that I can never be an alcoholic because the special coping powers with alcohol those great men & women have, I seem to be missing. This is apparent by the ulcers in mouth, skull-crushing headaches, bad stomachs etc etc that I am experiencing now. But let me tell you that if done once in a while binging like there's no to... The Fuss over Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
2007-07-19 18:15:00 Frankly I am very impressed by all the fuss over the release off Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which I have heard is the 7th edition of the Harry Potter series. I have never even read one of the books in the series but it is still, many say, the most selling series after the Bible. (But the Bible has had 2007 years to sell itself) So there must be something in those books I am guessing. I remember last year, I was traveling in a bus from Sion station to the Mumbai University and the girl sitting next to me was reading one of the books (think it was the 6th edition, order of the phoenix) in the series. When Kalina came around she looked up and asked me if Sion had passed and I said that's where I got on the bus and took this seat beside her. And she was completely stunned about it. She said something about loosing track of time reading the book swore loudly and got off at the next stop. Maybe what has stopped me is the fat size of the books in the series.I am guessing t... '93 blast convicts get death sentence... Finally !?!
2007-07-18 11:47:00 The TADA court handed out the first death sentences in the 1993 serial blasts case today.Pervez Shaikh, Abdul Gani Turk and Mushtaq Tarani are the three who have been sentenced to a death sentence. Parvez Sheikh was the one who had delivered arms and ammunition and planted the bomb in the Katha Bazar area. This killed 4 people. The second death sentence was given to Mushtaq Tarani who was also one of the bomb planters. I don't know where this piece of scum planted the bombs but if you go what the Black Friday movie tells you, he left a bomb packed in a brief case in one of the Centaur Hotels.Abdul Gani Turk, who planted a bomb close to the Passport office, has also been sentenced to death. This was the bomb which did massive damage, killing more than a 100 people, injuring many more and also destroying a lot of property. These sentences are subject to the final word of the Supreme Court. The TADA court will have to refer the sentences to the apex court within 30 days. So, the sentenc... More About: Bollywood , News , Politics , India , Terror
Sweet Revenge
2007-07-17 10:04:00 Now, I don't know how much Sonu Nigam believes in exacting sweet revenge or causing ritual misery to some one who has caused him the same but I do believe in it. "Revenge is a dish best served chilled" Don Corleorne remarks in the movie Godfather and Sonu Nigam has served it almost frozen to himself. He said that Subhash K. Jha actually proposed to him in 2001 and ever since he has been bothering Sonu Nigam with text messages and the like, Jha even wrote articles in news papers and magazines just because Sonu Nigam turned him down. But Sonu Nigam has come out in the open about the thing only now. I like the guy's style. However, Sonu should also know that the 145-year-old Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) declares homosexuality illegal and it hasn't been changed. The much debated Section 377 of the IPC states: Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with impri... Sonu Nigam speaks out
2007-07-17 07:18:00 Sonu Nigam yesterday spilled the can of dirty worms on senior entertainment journalist, Subhash K Jha, who is a well-known figure in the Bollywood circle. Nigam said that Jha was interested in him but Sonu being a straight guy did not reciprocate and even avoided his calls, messages etc. This pissed of Jha and he started tarnishing Nigam's image by writing articles like "the king of ego'."People in our country should know that such things also happen here. A man can also bother another man like this. I just want him to stop bothering me. He is gay, I have no problems, it?s his life but I?m not like him and he should stay away from me.? this is what Sonu said. You can read the rest of the story on the Zeenews website. The casting couch is an open secret at least as far as women were concerned. Interesting Question!!!
2007-07-15 16:03:00 By 2050, an estimated 25 million people in the US will be over the age of 85, and expecting to live to a 100 at least. Will the US embrace these seniors as a source of wisdom or as a burden ? (Considering how selfish the land of opportunity can be, there's a fair chance they will consider them a lot a more than a burden ) Medical advances in the area of genetics will ensure that they will be healthier, and expecting a more active lifestyle. Advances in plastic surgery certainly will ensure that none of them look their age (or maybe only the rich ones). On the other hand the cult of youth worship will ensure that the better jobs go to younger and younger people.
