2008-02-14 02:51:00

Settling in a new apartment is a very complicated process. There is so much to do and so much to buy. One of the things we’ve been looking to buying ...

2008-02-06 13:39:00
Driving in Bangalore is an art that requires great skill and lots of preparation. There are basically three things that you need: (1) good brakes (2) A good, loud, screeching horn and (3) Good luck. Keeping Up Appearances - Part 2
2008-01-28 18:18:00
This is part 2 of a series. Part 1 is here. I’m sitting in a fancy restaurant with some exotic italian dish in front of me. Not only does this “exotic italian dish” look like a bar of RIN soap, but it also smells like one. The problem, as always, is my big mouth. ...

Keeping up Appearences - Part 1
2008-01-28 05:51:00
The wife and I are out for dinner in a fancy, upscale Italian restaurant. This place is so dimly lit that I can barely read the menu. I’ve never really understood why these fancy places have dim lights. Probably so that you don’t see the prices on the menu. But I have only myself to ...

2008-01-24 19:13:00
It’s time again for Aditya’s Advice Column Q: I’m a feminist, and a very passionate one that that. But there is this guy at work that keeps arguing pointlessly about feminism with me. He doesn’t have anything positive to say, and I think he’s arguing just for the fun of it. Is it OK if I ...

There have been some dramatic events happening in the stock markets recently. The papers are full of news like “Sensex sees largest fall” and similar things that don’t make sense. Chitradeep Chetty and the Physics Lab
2008-01-21 08:45:00
Back in the College, we had this torturous thing called the Physics Lab. We were supposed to do physics “experiments” in the lab and learn from it. But these were not so much experiments as they were “fudge the readings till you get the right answer” exercises, and we were pretty good at it. The expert ...
My (short-lived) Stamp Collection
2008-01-19 18:52:00
Back when I was a kid, my dad was really worried about me. He wanted to see me as a ‘complete person’ and as an ‘all-rounder’. I just wanted to buy the latest tinkle and WWF cards. This, as you can imagine, let to lots of “conflicts-of-interest” between us. Dad: “There are bigger things in life ...

Interview with Me!
2008-01-18 18:19:00
A fellow blogger, Sundar Rajan, made the mistake of inviting me for an interview on his blog. I said some really dense things like “Art is the side effect of someone’s passion” and other absurdities like that. Head over to his blog to read the full interview. You will not be disappointed!

Why is everyone a ?Nature Lover??
2008-01-16 18:55:00
Have you noticed how everyone seems to “Want to get out of the city and reconnect with nature” these days? It’s almost like a fad. People keep saying how they went to this-or-that forest and how beautiful it was. I’m not really a “nature” type person. I LOVE living in the city and hate to ...

How to introduce yourself to Girls!
2008-01-10 19:44:00
The 1-hour torture called ‘Chemistry lab’ is finally over. I’m always glad to get out of the Chemistry lab, because it makes me feel like a witch mixing all those acids and salts and whatnot together. And a bad witch at that, because my potion never turns out quite the color it should. Anyway, as I’m ...

How to fix Bad Umpiring
2008-01-07 14:34:00
Doesn’t it seem like whenever the Indian cricket team visits Australia, there is some controversy or the other. The latest one, this time, is the really bad umpiring. I mean, how can the umpiring be so stupid? The ICC has to get up and take notice. And as usual, the ICC is out of ideas, ...
How to fix Bad Umpiring
2008-01-07 14:04:00
Doesn't it seem like whenever the Indian cricket team visits Australia, there is some controversy or the other. The latest one, this time, is the really bad umpiring. I mean, how can the umpiring be so stupid? The ICC has to get up and take notice. And as usual, the ICC is out of ideas, so it's up to me to come up with some solution to the bad umpiring problem. In fact, I've come up with three!(1) The "Gabbar Singh" solutionThis solution is called so because it is inspired by the classic Bollywood "Sholay" movie. This movie has solutions to all the world's problems, but that's another blog post. The solution is to keep as hostage, something the 2 umpires hold dear to them - Maybe their ugly-white-hats. The solution also requires the umpires to be renamed as "Thakurs".You can see that this solution works: When the bowlers appeal, instead of saying the ridiculous "Hooowwwzaaaaattttttaaaaaa???????", they'll use the more elegant "Yeh Wicket Hame De De Thakur!". At this point, seve...

New plan to avoid Movies!
2008-01-06 12:32:00
Earlier this year, I had resolved to see what could be done to avoid watching all the top-10 worst movies this year again. I discussed the situation with the wife, and she skillfully convinced me that it is my own fault that the movies are bad. Not only that, she also proved to me that watching bad movies improves memory, reduces cholesterol and fights global warming. And so, reluctantly, I agreed when the wife announced that we were going to watch the movie "Welcome". But all was not lost yet. I am not the one to take defeat lightly, and I had been working on a master plan to do something about this. The plan of action this time, is to stall and delay us so that we arrive at the theater late and end up missing the movie. Oh, what a brilliant plan! I am so proud of myself!Soon, D-Day arrived, and it was time to go to the movie.Wife: "Come on, come on, we're getting ready. Are you dressed yet?"Me: "In a second. Almost ready."I am sitting in front of the TV.30 seconds later, The wife ...

My Universal Notebook
2008-01-03 19:54:00
Back in school, they had this really weird concept of maintaining a different notebook for each subject. Not just one notebook, but several per subject - Home Work, Class Work, Neat Work and whatnot. I didn’t believe in this system. Instead, I just had this one 200-pages long note book that I called the “Universal ...

My Universal Notebook
2008-01-03 19:24:00
Back in school, they had this really weird concept of maintaining a different notebook for each subject. Not just one notebook, but several per subject - Home Work, Class Work, Neat Work and whatnot. I didn't believe in this system. Instead, I just had this one 200-pages long note book that I called the "Univers al Notebook ". It contained everything. At least everything that I managed to write down. Needless to say, the teachers were not very impressed with this radical innovation. But the real problem is that I used to forget to bring my Universal Notebook as well. I would come to class like I was on a picnic. This would irritate the teachers no end, and I got screamed at a lot. Fortunately, I have a very thick skin, and these kinds of trivialities don't affect me.This one time, I was sitting in the last bench telling some silly jokes, when the teacher yelled at me.Teacher: "ADITYA!!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"Me: "Not much, actually. I was..."Teacher: "Come to the first bench and sit! ...
