The Power of Pets in Divorce
2007-03-08 12:05:01 How the human-animal bond can help you survive your separation and divorce. By Jane Nahirny When Angela separated from Tom, her husband of ten years, she hoped the situation would be temporary. She rented an apartment, while Tom and their nine-year-old cat remained in the couple?s home. As weeks turned into months, with no reconciliation in sight, she began to exhibit all of the classic signs of depression. ?I had crying jags in the morning before I went to work, I couldn?t sleep, and I was gradually withdrawing from family and friends,? she remembers. ?Basically, I lost my zest for living.? Then a colleague at work mentioned that her neighbor had kittens for sale. ?I went to have a look, and I fell in love with two of them,? she says. Three weeks later, the kittens were hers, and within days, her depression had started to lift. ?Suddenly, there was someone to welcome me home at the end of a long day, someone to laugh with, someone to care for again? They were a great, drug-free solu... Will Online Social Networks Help Divorce Rate Drop?
2007-03-07 12:04:01 Here is a fascinating post I found on Twist Image Blog by Mitch Joel: *** With everything happening in social media and the proliferation of online dating, it got me thinking that because of the power of six pixels of separation (not the Podcast title, but the concept ? a world where individuals are connecting in ways we could have never imagined possible) ? that the North American divorce rate will decrease significantly in the coming years. When we’re connecting like this, it makes sense that your scope of influence increases as geographic boundaries no longer seem relevant. Here’s a bold thought: the divorce rate will drop dramatically in the coming years as more and more people meet and get married through online dating or online social networking. Most divorces happen because the couple were not the ?best? match. Someone settles and it probably has some origins in the original pool of people they had to select from. Sure, some of us got lucky (and some not so much),... More About: Divorce , Social , Social Networks , Networks , Work
Islam Respecting the Ladies Again: Divorce By Text Message
2007-03-04 12:03:01 Muslim authorities in Dubai have decided to mold Sharia law to fit with 21 modern times. Wow, you say… Could they finally be equalizing women’s rights, or stopping brutal mutilation as a means of punishment, or maybe even enacting free speech? Not so much… They’ve decided that tradition can be merged with technology by allowing a man to divorce his wife by cellular text messaging or SMS. Great, huh? What a peaceful, respectful, liberating religion. Riiiiight. More About: Divorce , Islam , Essa , Message , Text

2007-03-01 12:01:01 Britney (bald) Spears’ spokesperson has denied the recent claims that Britney uses pornography and had threesomes and sex with other girls while married to Kevin Federline. Rapper Omar Sharif, known as Iceman, told In Touch Weekly: ?Britney was into threesomes and girls. There was tons of porn in the house ? but it was mostly Britney?s.? ?They were [also] friends of hers who she would invite to her house and they would drink and party. They had their hands all over each other.? Other sources added: ?Sometimes it was three girls, and sometimes there were more like six. I heard about her being with girls at least 20 times while they were married.? ?Discreetly, she would ask Kevin to come and join them but he would always deny her. He was just into having sex with her. Kevin just got disinterested in her after a while. All she wanted to do was be with girls.? Stepfamily Living: Not for Wimps
2007-02-26 11:59:01 Remarriage with children is challenging! Ask anyone living in a stepfamily. Or ask professionals who work with these complex and vulnerable families. Yet most adults enter the world of stepfamily living woefully unprepared, as evidenced by the 60 percent remarriage divorce rate in America. While not all those divorces involve stepfamilies, most do, touching the lives of many children. Already, the re-organization of their families?by death, divorce, single-parent living, or remarriage?has created much loss and change for children. Eager to start anew, many adults become too close, too soon. Or they get involved with someone with whom they are out of sync; one person has been single for some time and is ready to move on; the other is barely out of the marriage, some not even legally. Usually these scenarios set up formulas failure as they attempt to work two processes at the same time?goodbyes and hellos. Using time wisely between relationships is used is the most important... Study Reveals 90% of Divorces in Ireland End Amicably
2007-02-23 11:57:02 The perception that divorce in Ireland is characterised by bitter legal battles between former partners has been exposed as a myth after a study of family law cases found 90% of them end amicably. The study showed nine out of 10 divorce and judicial separation cases which came before the Dublin Circuit Court last October were agreed by consent. However, battles for custody of children and rows over the level of maintenance payments are the main source of disagreement for the 10% of cases which are hotly contested by former spouses. Special provisions were made in the Civil Liability and Courts Act 2004 to lift the traditional ?in camera? rule which prohibits the reporting of family law cases. It resulted in the Courts Service appointing Irish Times journalist Dr Carol Coulter to carry out a pilot study on the family courts. Announcing the findings of her research yesterday, Dr Coulter said they could only be considered as offering a ?snapshot? of trends, given the large number of su... Heather Mills Seeks Divorce Revenge Through Animation?
2007-02-20 11:55:01 According to The Sunday Mirror, Heat her Mills is planning for her revenge upon Paul and his progeny to take the form of an animated cartoon. She has reportedly set up a production company, Raspberry Fields (Do you see what she did there?) in order to bring the oh-so-wittly-titled cartoon sitcom The McFartneys to the world. They say “the former Beatle would be portrayed as a flatulent and miserly cannabis-smoker and his daughter Stella as a control-freak with a grudge against Heather - while Heather herself is made out to be a homemaker struggling to juggle family life with her career.” Of course, the proposed series is compared to both The Simpsons and South Park. The newspaper also mentions that Mills registered a number of McFartney related websites. If you’re up for a bit of cybersquatting, however, note that .us, .ws, .cc and .tv addresses are still available at the time of writing. A source told the newspaper: ?This shows the lengths Heather Mills will go to i... More About: Divorce , Animation , Anima
Marriage, Children and Divorce: When ?Le Music? Stops
2007-02-17 11:53:01 By Dr. Marshall Colt It can happen in many ways. Sometimes, suddenly, out of the blue, with no warning whatsoever. Other times, the music slowly, gradually, fades to a deafening silence. Divorce is the great plague on American families today. More than 40% of adults under 40 are children of divorced parents. The U.S. now has the highest divorce rate (roughly 44%) of the Western nations, though it?s slightly declining. Avoiding it, preparing for it and dealing with the consequences of when the music stops involve millions of us every day. Here in France, where the ?use? of a lover is accepted and frequent, the current divorce rate is 39%, having more than tripled since 1970. The trend is alarming. Even the French find their own institution of marriage ?moins formidable? than before. Sitting in this near-empty café, I?m struck how the odds those lovers smooching on the Seine might marry, but then divorce, has shot up like my blood pressure now, thanks to my less-than-atten... 2007-02-14 11:51:01 A Tainan court has granted a man’s request for divorce because his wife was “too shy” to consummate their marriage, a newspaper said yesterday. The man surnamed Chen, a 38-year-old teacher from Tainan County was introduced to a woman surnamed Lin, 29, also a teacher, by a matchmaker. After the couple dated for three months, they married a year ago, but Lin refused to consummate the marriage, the Chinese-language daily China Times reported. On the wedding night, Lin slept fully dressed and wrapped with a quilt, the daily said, without citing any sources. When Chen tried to sleep with her, the report said, she pushed him away shouting: “You are ridiculous!” The next morning Lin returned to her mother’s home saying she was ill, and would not live with her husband again, the paper said. Through the matchmaker’s mediation, Lin signed a contract agreeing to consummate the marriage but only for the purpose of procreation, and demanded to sleep separ... Divorce Over Pumpkin Pie
2007-02-10 23:48:11 A Russian man divorced his wife of 18 years after finding she had been feeding him cheap pumpkins instead of courgettes. Ivan Dimitrov, 47, was devastated to find the pies he had been eating for six months were made of pumpkins and not courgettes. Mr Dimitrov, from Voronezh, said when he realised the truth, after finding pumpkin rinds in the bin, he immediately hired a lawyer to organise a quick divorce from wife Irena, 38. He said: “She knows I absolutely hate pumpkins and she lied to me for months about it just because the pumpkins were cheap. “What else has she been lying about? What man could trust a woman who fed him pumpkins for half a year?” Via Dave’s Daily More About: Divorce , Pumpkin , Over , Pump , Divo

In the divorce papers obtained by TMZ, Faustino asks for “all property acquired during the marriage ? be kept as his sole and separate property.” Faustino blames the split on “irreconcilable differences.” The couple, who married in 2003 at the famous Little White Chapel of the West in Las Vegas, separated in May of last year. Mothers-in-Law Cause of Italy?s Soaring Divorce Rate
2007-02-05 11:40:02 Italy has been experiencing an unprecedented rise in marriage break-ups. The main cause bearing a high proportion of the blame? Mamma?s boys and interfering mothers-in-law. A new poll by research institute Eures reveals that divorce happens every four minutes(!) in the country once regarded as a bastion of marriage. In 2002, Italy recorded 50,828 divorces - a 45 percent increase from 2000. While some reasons for divorce seem to be marrying too young, squabbling over money and meeting new partners, a shocking three out of 10 marriages fail because of the unusually close attachment of Italian men to their mothers. A real life ?Everybody Loves Raymond?, mothers-in-law who live in the same house or nearby, are putting strains on couple?s relationship by meddling in their affairs, finding fault with her daughter-in-law and of course, treating her grown-up son as a child. Psychologist Dr. Annamaria Cassanese says she sees many disillusioned daughters-in-law at her practice in Milan. ?In I... More About: Divorce , Italy , Other , Others , Mother
Ten Tips for Divorcing Parents
2007-02-05 11:40:02 The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers is a great resource for information about divorce and children. This article contains some very important information for divorcing parents:Divo rce is never easy on kids, but there are many ways parents can help lessen the impact of their break-up on their children: Never disparage your former spouse in front of your children. Because children know they are “part mom” and “part dad”, the criticism can batter the child’s self-esteem. Do not use your children as messengers between you and your former spouse. The less the children feel a part of the battle between their parents, the better. Reassure your children that they are loved and that the divorce is not their fault. Many children assume that they are to blame for their parent’s hostility. Encourage your children to see your former spouse frequently. Do everything within your power to accommodate the visitation. Couple Fights for Frozen Embryos in Custody Battle
2007-02-01 23:37:01 (When those poor things thaw, they are gonna need some serious therapy…) Augusta and Randy Roman were once a happy couple, but like so many marriages, theirs ended in divorce. In the middle of the battle wasn?t three children, but three embryos they created together. Right now, the embroyos remain on ice while Augusta and Randy battle it out in court. At stake is whether these embryos will survive. At age 40, Augusta believed that in vitro fertilization was her last chance to have the baby. Thirteen eggs had been harvested from her ovarian follicles. Combined in the lab with Randy’s sperm, six of the eggs had become viable embryos, which were to be implanted in her uterus the next morning. Ten hours before Augusta Roman’s in vitro fertilization appointment at the Center of Reproductive Medicine in Webster, Texas, her husband announced that he had changed his mind. The Roman v. Roman embryo-custody is moving its way through the legal system. The arguments that divid... More About: Fights , Fight , Coup , Couple , Battle
Wanted: Post-Divorce Stories for Magazine Article
2007-02-01 17:36:01 I was recently contacted by a reporter looking to do a story for the May 2007 issue of Best Life Magazine on first and second marriages, from men and women’s perspectives, and the effect of divorce on both men and women. She is especially looking for the point of view of a man who does well in his life financially and professionally, and leaves his first wife - who maybe helped him get where he got - to marry a younger second wife (or at least have a relationship with a younger woman, even if it doesn’t result in marriage). In her words: “If you know of anyone who did this and would be willing/able to discuss it, I’d love to speak with them. The article will not be cruel, it will not condemn or condone anyone. But i really do want to provide a full prism of experience so that everyone is represented and the situation might be illuminated.” If any of you out there are interested in sharing your story for this article, you can contact her directly at ja... ?He told me I would never find anyone better than him??
2007-01-31 11:33:02 Long, sorry! Hi all, I am 24 my H is 30, we have been married for almost seven years and together almost 10. Since the begining of our relationship Porn has been an issue. When we talked about it my H said, I have always done and it is not going to change, you better learn to accept it. So for about four years I have been doing just that. Here is the thing though, now I don’t trust him. So this will be the 3rd time we have discussed divorce in about four months. The frist was when he could not get an erection with me but was looking at porn about 3-4 times a week (and also has a masterbation toy) this kind of started the most recent mess. During this discussion he told me I would never find anyone better then him and that 75% of the failure of this relationship was my fault due to my low self esteem. I told him my low self esteem was due to his addiction to porn and telling me he would not work on it to just accept it, which he repeated to me again, saying if I accepted it we ... Many Women Ask for Divorce to Test Their Husbands
2007-01-29 05:30:02 JEDDAH - For some women divorce is the only way to end a conflict and bring a solution to their miseries no matter what the consequences may be. However, there are some women who use the threat of divorce as a final weapon to tame their husbands. Sometimes the move backfires and as the husband obliges women are left in sorrow. ?If my husband had listened to me two months after our marriage we would not have stayed together for all these 12 years. I admit that it is stupid to ask for a divorce,? said Umm Muhammad who regularly asks her husband for divorce to keep him in check. ?Women use the threat of divorce to ensure their husbands love and care about them,? she said. ?Deep inside I don?t want my husband to get bored one day and divorce me. Therefore, I try to watch my words and control myself.? Umm Khalid says she has asked her husband for a divorce over a 100 times. ?He has never gone ahead with it. An Important Message from the Family of Heather Mills
More articles from this author:2007-01-26 05:26:01 This message was just posted on Heat her Mills ’ website by her sister Fiona: “After eight months of reading disgusting, untrue and hurtful stories about my sister Heather I feel enough is enough and I would like to try and set the record straight. It’s impossible to answer every single lie that has been written about her, there are just too many, but over the next few weeks I will try to answer some of them. The main reason that I am responding is that I am deeply concerned for the safety of my sister and her daughter. They are receiving death threats, not because she is getting a divorce, but because some of the British tabloids decided from day one that they wish to destroy her, create hatred towards her and profit out of doing so. The vicious agenda of these tabloids has resulted in death threats to my family and I want to try to do something.
