how not to pop the question
2008-03-19 05:07:00 It seemed like a romantic idea at the time. A London man named Lefkos Hajji, wanted to "pop the question" to his fiancee, Leanne. Literally. His idea was to hide her $12,100 diamond engagement ring inside a helium balloon. Then, he would present it to her and "pop" the question. Now, some of us see the obvious danger in hiding a ring inside a helium balloon. Lefkos didn't.After leaving the balloon store, a gust of wind swept the balloon out of his hand. Like a bad dream, Lefkos saw her ring (and his money) floating calmly away in a balloon. He tried to chase it in his car for two hours, but it soon became a mere dot vanishing on the distant horizon.Said Lefkos: "I just watched as it went further and further into the air. I felt like such a plonker."Leanne, 26, has shown what a worthy bride she will be. She is not speaking to Lefkos until she gets a new ring.http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article .html?in_article_id=118458&in_page_id =2I am not sure what a plonker is, but I am gu... that picture looks so real
2008-03-19 05:05:00 One blog that I visit from time to time is called Photoshop Disasters. As the name suggests, it gives real examples of Photoshop picture doctoring that have gone awry. For example:1. from a romance novel book cover - notice the mutant third hand on the woman.2. from a Spiderman movie promo - Kirsten Dunst's right, um no, left arm would need to be five feet long and have two elbows to make this picture work.3. from a sports feature - the crowd apparently had lots of sets of identical triplets in it that day. the perfect crime... almost
2008-03-18 05:05:00 Last week, a man in Liberty, Pennsylvania sat in his car for 20 minutes, waiting for just-the-right moment to execute his plan. His plan was to rob the Citizens and Northern Bank of Liberty and get away without a hitch.Shortly after noon, he pulled his ski mask over his face, picked up his rifle, and headed to the front door of the bank. It was a bold plan: robbing a bank single-handedly in broad daylight. The man approached the front door of the bank and pulled on the handle to open it. It was locked. That branch closes for lunch for an hour every day at noon. The man quickly retreated to his car and drove away.Unfortunately for him, some bank employees spotted the attempt and wrote down his license plate number. The 28-year-old man was tracked down by police and thrown in jail. He is being held for $50,000 bail.http://www.cbc.ca/cp/Oddities/080314 /K031406AU.htmlnext, he will plan his prison escape More About: Crime , Perfect

no more lost remote
2008-03-17 05:05:00 "Where the heck is that stupid remote?" "Honey, have you seen my car keys???"A team of scientists in Japan have recently invented a pair of glasses that are able to answer those questions for you.The glasses have a miniature camera installed and recognition software on board. The glasses record everything that the wearer sees. Then, it can use the recognition software to locate any objects that have been recorded. For example, if the wearer loses his keys, he can say, "Where are my keys?" The software then searches though its video log and accesses the last point where it spotted keys. Then, the glasses can play back that section of video where the keys were last seen.Today, the glasses can be trained to identify any number of objects. Eventually, the glasses will be even more intelligent than the wearer, being able to recognize things that he doesn't.According to inventor Professor Yasuo Kuniyoshi, the glasses are still too large for everyday use but are being miniaturized fo... let me read your asparagus
2008-03-14 05:10:00 We have heard of people who claim to tell the future by reading: the palm of your hand, tea leaves, skin moles, coffee grounds, and stars. There was even the story of a man who claimed he could tell the future by reading a person's buttocks. (see link below)But now, there's a new one: asparagus.Jemima Packington of Worcester in England claims that she can tell a person's future by looking at how asparagus lands after it is tossed in the air.She refers to herself as an "asparamancer" and says that she learned of her gift when she was a child. In an interview with BBC News, she said, "I can't even remember what prediction I made when I was young but my family went very quiet and it came true and the rest is history." (Apparently, she can tell the future but not the past.)As another example of her ability, she tells of a time that she did a reading for actor Tony Robinson. She threw some asparagus into the air and it landed in the shape of a number four. Therefore, she told him... More About: Read , Asparagus

two thiefs, two mistakes, one lesson.
2008-03-07 06:12:00 They are unrelated stories but have one lesson to be leaned: when attempting to steal something, do not carry large objects that announce you as the thief. The first story happened back in January when a woman in Sweetwater, Tennessee was found lurking around a church at night. When stopped by the police, Jennifer Hunt, 35, was asked to produce some identification. At that moment, a crowbar just happened to drop out of her pants. She also carried a screwdriver in her pants.Hunt claimed that she was behind the church relieving herself and could not understand why pry marks that fit her crowbar were found on the rear door of the church. In a second and unrelated story, last week, a German man was arrested for shoplifting a suit. He tried to hide the suit by wearing it under his street clothes. His mistake? He forgot to take the suit off the hanger. One police officer observed, "Only a sign saying 'stop me, I'm a thief!' would have made the thief look more unprofessional."http://... More About: Lesson

now: 51 ways to leave your lover
2008-03-06 06:07:00 According to the Paul Simon song, there must be "50 ways to Leave Your Lover ." You know the list: just slip out the back, Jack make a new plan, Stan you don't need to be coy, Roy, just get yourself free hop on the bus, Gus, you don't need to discuss much just drop off the key, Lee, and get yourself freeBut now, there are at least 51 ways.Mr. Che, of Yinko City in China has started a new business to help couples break up.For a mere 124.70 yuan (about $17.50), Mr. Che will pass along the information to your ex-to-be that your relationship is kaput. finito. done.He tries to be kind and compassionate, but he makes the message clear. He also tries to explain to the now-jilted person why breaking up is best.Mr. Che says that he will not do married couples, disputes over money, or tell lies. Why does he charge such an odd amount? Because in Chinese, the pronunciation of the amount sounds a lot like "let love die."http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm _2...

2008-03-05 06:07:00 The name of the product is "Shark Shield." It is an electronic device that surfers wear to protect themselves from shark attacks. This week, Shark Shield was tested and demonstrated off the coast of South Africa. The test of the device went... umm, not very well. The device was attached to a buoy and set in the water. A great white shark approached the device and promptly ate it. That's right, it bit the device right off the buoy. The shark was so not-deterred by the device that some people are speculating that the sharks are actually drawn to the devices. This is probably not what the company had in mind.http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au /story/0,25197,23300091-30417,00.htmlSale . Shark Shield devices 50% off. Buy yours now!

2008-03-03 06:10:00 What would you do if you didn't want to go to work for a few days? tell the boss the truth and ask for the time offpretend you had a cold or the flu and call in sicktell the boss there was an illness in your familyhave a friend shoot you in the shoulder and then file a false police reportA few people would take the first option.Perhaps more would take the second and third options. No one would be stupid enough to choose the last option.Well, almost no one.Daniel Kuch of Pasco, WA wanted to get some time off from his job (and avoid a potential blood test). So, he hatched a scheme of spectacular idiocy: He asked one of his friends to shoot him.The friend was only too happy to help (hey, what are friends for??). With a simple pull on the trigger, he blew a hole in Kuch's shoulder. Then, the bleeding Kuch called the police and filed a report claiming that he had been the victim of a drive-by shooting.Apparently, his story wasn't very convincing. Within a short time, Mr. Kuch a... More About: Time , Call , Sick
bout of the grue (?)
2008-03-03 06:04:00 without any safety devices, these guys make simple chin-ups very scary.btw... what does the cryptic "ascension of the grue" and the "bout of the grue" mean? The "grue" is a reference to a fictional creature in the old Zork text adventure games that killed adventurers. It is also an archaic word for "shaky, scary." The "ascension of the grue" apparently means that they climbed "the monster." The "bout (fight) of the grue" means that these guys were taking on a scary task that could well have killed them. They got that right.
10 questions answered twice
2008-03-03 06:03:00 As part of my review at blogsweluv, I was asked to complete a series of 10 questions to let people know about me and my blog. After I sent the completed questions to Amy, I had a few extra minutes due to a canceled appointment, so I completed the questionnaire a second time with my "real" answers. Amy seemed to like my second answers better than the first ones I submitted. Blogweluv apparently chose not to print them. not for the squeamish: the world's first eyeball tattoo
2008-02-29 06:05:00 We have seen people with tattoos on arms, hands, stomach, back, knees feet... virtually any and every part of the body. But finally, we have something completely new: an eyeball tattoo. That's right. A man from Canada volunteered to be the first to try out the new procedure. He had the white of his eye colored blue. The procedure required a needle to be inserted into his eyeball forty times. After the procedure was finished, the volunteer (named only as Pauly) had some sage advice: don't try this at home. The Sun quotes Pauly as saying: "The procedure was extensively researched and done by people who were aware of the risks and possible complications and that it should not be casually attempted."Thanks for the warning, Pauly, I was thinking about trying this in my kitchen. For the strong of stomach who wish to see more photos, click the first link below.http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag e/features/article853274.ecehttp://networ k.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/posted/archiv e/2008/02/28/c... allergic to water.
2008-02-28 06:10:00 I didn't think that this was possible. In fact, when I read her story, I felt I should do some extra research. I learned that the situation is extraordinarily rare... and that this story is true.Ashleigh Morris, 19, of Melbourne, Australia is allergic to water. As in H2O. As in the stuff that makes up most of our body weight.Ashleigh can't enjoy a warm bath or a hot shower. She can't go swimming in the summer. She can't hug her sweaty boyfriend. She can't stand outside in the rain or snow. She has to stay away from any sport that would make her perspire. She has to avoid touching water of any kind... including her own sweat.Ashleigh can drink water. The problem is that if any water touches Ashleigh's skin, she breaks out in very painful red rash. The rash subsides after a few hours, but the pain sometimes reduces her to tears. She takes minute-showers to stay clean -- but after a shower, she often will not go out for a couple hours because her skin is so splotchy and p... reduce, reuse, recycle... but not the cat
2008-02-27 06:13:00 The British town of Norwich encourages recycling. However, some of the town residents don't quite seem to grasp the concept. One city councilman, Brian Morrey said, "It is shocking what people put in their recycling bins."Some of the more bizarre things that people have put in their recycle bins: dead cats and dogs, a Samurai sword, car wheels complete with tires, live ammunition, and smoke grenades. On the other hand, there are other things that can be recycled in ways you might not imagine. For example, Nike recycles old sneakers to make "Nike Grind," a playing surface for basketball courts. Recline is a company that uses discarded yogurt containers to make toothbrushes and razors. Then they recycle them again to make plastic lumber.Yet another company has used discarded steel cans to make bathing suits. thief finds the love of his life
More articles from this author:2008-02-26 06:10:00 It was love at first sight. Too bad "first sight" happened during a robbery.Bruno Perez, 31, robbed a post office in Genoa, Italy. During the robbery, he pointed his gun at Lucia Marcelo, 21, and demanded that she give him the money that was in her drawer. She complied and handed over the money.Bruno escaped with the money but apparently he left his heart behind. He just couldn't get Lucia out of his mind. So, the next day, Bruno revisited the post office with a bouquet of flowers for Lucia, some of the money he had stolen, and an apology. He gave the flowers to Lucia and asked his love out for a date. Lucia took the flowers and engaged Bruno in conversation. Meanwhile, Lucia hit the silent alarm. The police came. Bruno was arrested within minutes. It looks like the date isn't going to happen.http://www.ananova.com/news/story/ sm_2741933.html?menu=news.quirkiesGuess she wasn't a sucker for a guy with money.
