Monday, March 10 @ T.T. The Bear's Place
2008-03-03 17:22:00
My Friends: I will be sitting in on bass with Matt Shwachman for an acoustic set at T.T.'s on March 10. And now, a poorly written informational blurb: Show starts at 8:30, with two other acoustic acts going on after us. Tickets are 3 bucks at the door, and are good for all three bands. You can MapQuest your directions here if you so choose. If your taking the MBTA, take the red line to the

...I bought a Nintendo Wii. It's definitely quite a work out -- I can see myself playing some of the more intense games to keep me from getting bored with my cardio workouts. I spent quite a while playing some of the games with Anne Marie and Madison -- it really made for a great day with the family. Madison, by the way, beat me pretty badly at our first game of bowling: She turns seven (7)

Should You Walk Away?
2008-03-02 12:01:00
Got in over your head with an ARM? Did you work with some hokey mortgage broker running his business in the basement of his mothers' house? Are you facing foreclosure? Just walk away. That's what YouWalk says they can help you do. So much for learning from your mistakes.
Weekend Snow

Even this late in the season, I still love it when it snows on a weekend. It makes working from my kitchen/home office that much easier to do.

Social Experiment: Coffee Shop
2008-02-29 16:54:00
I love it when I am inspired by a fellow blogger: Claudia Snell wrote a nice piece about The Q the other day. I was there recently and really enjoyed it. Great coffee, music, people and atmosphere. What more could I ask for? It also seems like a great place to try and sneak in a gig or two...hmmm...more to come on that. Claudia also talked about her displeasure with obvious mistreatment at

Workplace Diversion 1.0
2008-02-26 13:13:00
I was looking through the Google Widget directory and I came upon this really ingenious web tool that will figure out a song based on the beat you create with the spacebar. Sound weird? Check it out for yourself at Song Tapper. I found myself killing time at work trying to recreate songs I could think of by pressing the spacebar and seeing if I did it good enough for the website to figure it out.

Ban Dogs?

Castro Passes the Torch
2008-02-25 05:02:00
As Cuban President Fidel Castro announced today he would hand the reins of Cuba over to his brother, sources close to Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama tried to tamp down speculation that they were on “the short list” of potential replacements for the ailing Communist dictator. "A Clinton-Obama ticket,” said one unnamed Cuba scholar, “would have combined the power and the glory that was

Wormtown: The New Tinseltown?
2008-02-25 04:25:00
Wouldn't that be nice? As the push for a Massachusetts-based movie studio heats up, I truly feel like Worcester is being overlooked. Plymouth and Weymouth are getting all the attention --but, why not take a glance at Wormtown too? I don't think there's a better piece of property for something like this than the Worcester Airport. You have all the amenities of a small city, all the seclusion

Total Eclipse of the Heart...
2008-02-21 04:40:00
...err...moon. Yeah, that's it. Tried to take a picture of said eclipse from my front yard, but it didn't come out all that well -- as you can plainly see. Nonetheless, it's very cool to see with the naked eye. You can check out some far superior pictures as well as a few more words about it here.

Letter From The Editor
2008-02-19 18:27:00
One of my readers (one of three, I think) has brought it to my attention on numerous occasions that I haven't written anything here in a while. Turns out, it's been quite a while. Rather than try and come up with something to make you giggle, I'll just give you the reasons as to why I haven't been around: I've been watching American Idol. I then feel so brain dead that I can't even brush my

Happy New Year...

...and other ramblings: Yes, I know, I'm running a day or so behind. But, the year is still new, right? Ok then. How ever you chose to ring in the new year, I hope you did it safely. If not, then you should have known better. While I wasn't able to spend the New Year 's Eve at Worcester's First Night celebration, I was able to spend it with good friends. A few weeks ago, a few friends and I

Dear Worcester
2007-12-24 06:35:00
I just wanted to write you a quick apology for my letter to you last week. I should have just kept my feelings to myself -- clearly, you read my post, and decided that, not only would you plow my street, but you would do it so often that I felt as though I was shoveling the end of my driveway for hours, during the last few storms. If blocking my car in is your way of a) telling me to shut it --

Dear Worcester
2007-12-13 14:27:00
Dear Worcester : I just wanted to let you know that the snow that fell a week and a half ago has now melted from the my street. So, if you were planning on sending a snow removal crew at some point, don't worry about it -- Mother Nature has your back! Quite a bit more snow is on the way for today, and again on Sunday. This may be a bit more than She can handle in a reasonable amount of time.

Well, I asked for it. "Go ahead and ask" I said. Looks like I struck a chord with one reader (or former reader): "What the hell is your big problem with The Airport? Whenever you have a chance, you pick on it. What's your problem with it really? If you're just using it to try and be funny, it isn't working. You sound like an absolute idiot. Lights Out...Worcester?
2007-10-20 04:10:00
I guess I could have posted this on Blog Action Day, but I wasn't inspired until now. On the evening news tonight there was a spot about Lights Out San Francisco. So, my question is this: can something of the same variety be organized right here in Worcester ? Every morning, I get my wife out of bed at 6AM, leash up the dog, and head off on our daily walk. Lately, it's still been dark out

Without further ado, here are the questions (all three of them!): "Dear Topher -- I noticed that the title of your blog is "Topher The Tech Guy". Yet, I can't help but notice that you

Blog Action Day: Topher's Green List
2007-10-15 17:43:00
I have decided to throw together a "green list", and break it down into two parts. Part one is a few suggestions I have for readers about what they can do to help protect the environment. Part two is a couple of suggestions for cities (For example, the City of Worcester, MA) and towns across the country. Draft an 18-wheeler: While leaving the car at home, and riding your bike to work would cut

The Nobel Peace Prize Goes to...

...Al Gore (and a UN environmental panel). Does that change the way we're supposed to address him? "Your Nobel ness," maybe? Anywho...I do think it's a good choice, and obviously a great honor for Gore, but it makes me wonder why there's not a separate Nobel category for the Environment. Someone tell me, what's the biggest prize for environmental work? I'd be willing to offer up Worcester

The title of this post is a blatant lie. This isn't a video at all. However, open this .mp3 file in WMP, and you'll see Microsoft's attempt at filling the video void...I guess that'll have to do. Blog Action Day - October 15
2007-10-10 01:58:00
Blog Action Day is approaching, and I'm getting ready. What is Blog Action Day, you ask? Well, the idea is that bloggers will post about helping the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. You can learn more here. I have decided to compile a list of things we can all do to help the environment. Of course, this won't be just your average "turn off your lights" sort of

Hello Worcester, Have You Met Google?
2007-10-08 01:58:00
Dear Worcester , We all know you are looking for a big time tenant to set up shop in city square -- ever thought of rolling out the red carpet for Google ? This city would be a great fit. Google could tap in to the loads of area colleges, give a huge boost to city square, and could probably land a plane or two at Worcester Airport without having to deal with much more traffic than the occasional
