Racism in the Arab World
2007-11-28 09:54:00 A heated debate that spawned from the ‘Beauty of Salamo Alaikom’ post from the always interesting Rasha aka The CallerĀ got me seriously thinking about some things that perhaps haven’t been discussed enough. I was of the opinion that Egypt at least is a very racist country because I’ve personally seen how dark people get treated here, walking down the street and getting called ‘ya samara’ by strangers and MANY police hassles. Add to that the fact that it is very very rare when a fair family would marry their daughter to a black man, no matter how eligible he is. However, I must admit that my experience is still limited so I am a bit shaken by her objections, which do sound valid to be honest. So anyone care to jump in? I have copied the last bit of the debate to carry on here, so it’s time for everyone to contribute with their opinions and experiences from Egypt or any Arab country.
