Big Bangalore Blogathon is coming soon...
2008-01-27 19:39:00 Whats started as a small idea in the last Blogalorean Meet, snowballed into a big one during the mailing group discussions. Finally it was planned that all interested people would meet at Koshy's on a fine Saturday evening. It was 19th of Jan around 4:30 that I entered Koshy's to find five of them there, busy discussing and finalizing how it should be done. I jumped into that whole thing and soon their infectious enthusiasm got into me. After some random bakwas of mine. Then that waiter was like pushing us out. So last round of discussion happened across the street on the footpath. Finally we decided on something which were worded right by Sandil and put up on the Big Bangalore Blogathon. There are still a lot of things to be done for it. I am right now not in Bangalore to be physically involved but will be providing all possible support virtually and ofcourse by blogging during the Blogathon. I hope this event generates a lot of positives. Some of the people working behind the sc...
And you thought it only seemed longer
2008-01-24 19:31:00 For sometime now I had been hearing of the (supposedly) joke which says that It's not true that married men live longer than single men, it only seems longer. But then now some real smart researchers have found out that "Fights with spouse can help you live long". Now this proves one of the many things. Married men or single men, both fight equally. Some men are single because they continuously fight with their girlfriend. Hence actually both live equally long and frustrating lives. Married men are almost always at the receiving end of the fight. Hence they are actually not fighting. Hence liable to die as early as single men. But then let me quote Johnny Carson "Married men live longer than single men. But married men are a lot more willing to die." What do you think about it More About: Thought
In memory of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose --- Truely Forgotten Hero
2008-01-23 16:50:00 When I first saw the title of the movie on Netaji, I could not understand why it was called Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose : The Forgotten Hero . But then when I saw the news on CNN-IBN telling about the expenses made to commemorate the birthday of Great Hero of Indian Independence struggle was no where close to what was made on death or birth anniversary of anyone from Nehru-Gandhi clan. In memory of the Great Hero Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose I remember some of the quotes of his.Let me remind you that you have a two-fold task to perform. With the force of arms and at the cost of your blood you will have to win liberty. Then, when India is free, you will have to organize the permanent army of Free India, whose task it will be to preserve our liberty for all time. We must build up our national defense on such an unshakable foundation that never again in our history shall we lose our freedom. As soldiers, you will always have to cherish and live up to the three ideals of faithfulness, duty a... The privilege of a society
2008-01-21 20:32:00 The year is 2080. Oxygen in this world is becoming precious as always. All cities have special zones where this oxygen is generated. Space crunch has set in. Living in the dorm is a norm now with 60% of the population living there. War had devastated all the cities. No building was left. Most of the greenery and the oxygen was burnt up. People survive in dorms in cities. Very few people survive out of this area. Smoking is looked at with great displeasure by most, so is burning fire. Microwave is used for all purposes. ATG Corp last week released a prototype of houses where dorms were replaced by single room flats. They also introduced new water purifiers which were really low cost and removed radiation etc from water. Most of the junta was happy. They finally could get away from a dorm into a flat and have as much water as they wanted. But this has made a lot of activists unhappy. CNN IBN interviewed Mr SDF in his posh bungalow kept warm by the burning the tree leaves and bra... More About: Society
Taming of a Kangaroo
2008-01-20 08:28:00 A win in Australia could not be better timed. It was indeed a terrific win, but not without controversial umpiring decisions which went the India way. But surely the umpires did not ask the Captain for judgement. Seems like the Indian Mind games have finally worked. They forced the aggressive and abusive Aussies in the shell. From arrogant to subdued, Ponting and his team made good move. This is what Aussie media Courier Mail has to say "Remember that scene in one of the Rocky movies where Rocky's trainer tells him he's no longer feared by his opponents? 'Kid,' he says, 'the worst thing that could happen to a fighter happened to you. You got civilised.'" "In the space of a week the Australians got civilised...So instead of a confident, arrogant, winning team, we get a nice, civilised one. Maybe a losing one," "They should share their pay cheques with their bullying officials back home, the weak-kneed administrators at the International... More About: Kangaroo
Sankranti Rituals explanation or going overboard
2008-01-16 17:15:00 I came across this article on Deccan Herald which explained the festival of Makar Sakranti or Pongal which fall on 14 or 15 of January. My initial reaction to this article was Wow. So guys before reading any further I would request you to go through the article. Following is my criticism for the lady because I feel she has gone overboard with the scientific explanation. Something which VHP leader as well as other politicians are too good at. Prof Dr Geetha Viswanathan says All that is not meaningless tradition. There is hard-core science behind it. White-washing the house with calcium carbonate (collected from molluscan shells) helps to kill spiders and other insect vectors in house. Fresh cow dung in presence of sunlight produces methane which forms a thin film in front of our house and prevents entry of bacterial pathogens and also kills microbes. Red mud will close all pores in the house which are breeding place for many vectors. There is no way I would disagree wit... More About: Rituals

What a joke Mr Singh
2008-01-10 19:22:00 We heard some time back from our economist prime minister, Manmohan Singh that Indian CEOs are overpaid. Their salary should be brought under control. And now we have the latest news that 'Big pay hike for President, VP and Governors'. I am sure something is in line for MPs too. But then why crib over salary of the CEO who are going great work for the country and its people rather than the bureaucrats who are plainly killing off whatever is left out. Seems like one of those 'suits me well' attitude as they have for secularism and development. Doom Congress Doom, thats where you are headed to. Never is any educated Indian going to vote for you. The best way for u is to eliminate them tactically. More About: Joke
Are autos on the way out??
2008-01-09 17:05:00 With whatever details that I could make out of this news article, I can say that if anything changes, it will be the all too familiar site of the auto-rickshaw that we see plying on all Indian roads. I sure think this car would serve better than the ricks do on Indian roads. Please dont mistake me as saying the rickshaw drivers will be jobless. All I am saying is that these ricks will be replaced by Tata's Wondercar. Bajaj is making the smart move by getting into the same space because it probably sees its revenues too taking a hit. I am not sure if there will be hush to get this car by the dozens, but sure sounds better with 22kmpl than any upscale D/E or F segment cars with less than 10kmpl. I would be happy if people dump gas guzzlers for this Wondercar. Also if highly unsafe autos are replaced by this Wondercar. More About: Autos
Shame Australia Shame on you
2008-01-07 17:35:00 Obviously the attitude of the Ausies have evoked sharp response from Indians. But wait are they alone who had this problem with them? ... Well we know that the answer is know. The sportsmenship of Ausies is now in the open. Well here is one of amazing forward that I got today. I dont know who the author is for sure but it sure is interesting After watching the test match, I feel some rules have to be incorporated by ICC to give the other teams a perfect clarification (1) Ricky Ponting – (THE TRULY GENUINE CRICKETER OF THE CRICKET ERA AND WHOSE INTEGRITY SHOULD NOT BE DOUBTED) should be considered as theFOURTH UMPIRE. As per the new rules, FOURTH UMPIRE decision is final and will over ride any decisions taken by any other umpires. ON-FIELD umpires can seek the assistance of RICKY PONTING even if he is not on the field. This rule is to be made, so that every team should understand the importance of the FOURTH UMPIRE. A New Angle to the Communal Agenda
2008-01-03 20:16:00 As if reservation for OBCs and SC/ST in all premier institutions was not enough we now have, special package for districts which has greater Muslim population. Great going 'Secular' Congress. If Gujrat and Himachal elections are any pointer then, I have some hope left. May be now poor will be treated as poor, rather than an SC/ST, OBC or muslim poor. Really does poor have any religion or caste for that matter. That boy in the street who is picking waste from bins have any religion at all. Then all that is old. The latest being a JITO(Jain International Trade Organisation). I dont know if they will win or loose handsomely. One thing is clear, religion is a big pawn for all. I being a Jain have special hatered towards this particular organisation. This institution to me is yet another farce like the 'secular' Congress. It seems like brain child of some troubled individuals who are unable to gather momentum at existing trade platforms. First let me point at its objectives. ... More About: Agenda , Angle
Cyber citizens of India, your action is needed
2008-01-02 20:20:00 Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has come out with the status paper on broadband speeds. It unlike other government agencies does not show lethargy of the ultimate kind. But still the paper leaves a lot of things unanswered. Though I have mailed to the authorities as indicated in the paper, but I suggest more people do so to build a stronger case. Here are my points 1. The definition of minimum speed must be changed radically. It should not be 'the last mile' speed, but a function of the the bandwidth the ISP has reserved for each of the 'always on' broadband connection. This is adviced because its seen in common parlance that ISPs provide actual download speeds with are considerably lower than what is expected. http://speedtest.net does a good test of it. TRAI should also spell out fines for faltering in providing this service since most places its seems do it at will. 2. Speed provided does not depend on usage. The fact remains that the internet charges for higher... More About: Action , Cyber

Life Tips or just plain farce
2007-12-29 09:34:00 I was watching an amazing show on MTV. It was filled with true sarcasm by VJ Cyrus, the Virus. He had those seemingly genuine disgust against the 'Life Tips ' show called 'Love Bites'. Seriously what are those shows for. They tell you what to wear, what to eat and what to talk. Bloody hell, where is the real you. You want some idiot to fall in love with someone else. Or should I say that all people will fall in love with the person with same kind of personality. Yeah really I would have never discovered how to date and how to fall in love, rather make someone fall in love with me. I admit that I do not command any experience on the subject, (I am still happy) but all this seems farce to me. You would actually be believing that one size fits all. Please give me a break. I wonder if there is any blog which is actually into this stuff(It being there wont surprise me, though being other way round would). Orkut's Indian Connection
2007-12-18 18:38:00 Indians are heavily influencing orkut. Well it should have been with so many Indian just hooked onto Orkut and so many developers coming out of India every year. I am sure google too recruits them like many other software giants. Well a proof of that was uncovered to me a few days ago when I tried to get the location of the thumbnails in the friends update. It was something like http://img1.orkut.com/images/chhota/15/55 6/677123.jpg?tid=123213 I just managed to notice the word 'chhota'. Now thats a nice desi way to say, thumbnails. No wonder orkut is getting feature laden each day. Not because the developers are Indians, but this small thing shows the passion they are carrying while developing this amazing social network. I truly believe that this kind of passion is what makes things go beyond the ordinary. More About: Indian , Connection
Is there a righteous voice left in India
2007-12-16 19:28:00 I really felt pained when I browsed through the forums at expressindia.com and rediff.com. These are forums which are below each news topic. I felt there are only two kinds of people out there. One who hate Narendra Modi for all reasons known and unknown and others who loved him for reasons all known and unknown. Now what pains me is that instead trying to point that the opposition(Congress) is doing good work for farmers and all in other states like Maharashtra and AP(Well this indeed is with a lot of sarcasm). They are only trying to justify that Narendra Modi is a killer. Bloody hell if he is a killer, he is dangerous, what the hell is a central government there for. But then they are all sayers and never the doers. Unlike Modi who actually does something and talks a lot about other things. He does not clearly made a pro cotton farmer policy(Read here). But sadly Congress feels its unnecessary to make its something of an issue. Instead it tried to make use of the standard Communa... More About: India , Voice , Left
Vista is less pirated, should Microsoft rejoice or worry
2007-12-10 20:03:00 According to this story by Engadget, the rate of piracy of Vista is half of XP. Now should MS be happy about. After all piracy is low. But are they overlooking the fact that people hate Vista even if its free or at real dirt cheap prices. There have been several instances where people have downgraded their system to XP instead of the standard Vista. If the kind of hard selling that they are doing, I feel they are pretty much aware of the fact that people just dont trust Windows Vista. The acceptance level has reached a new low. The only way for them to outsell is to make their earlier product look bad. But then why would not they believe that the competitor (Linux and Mac) would not be dubbed as better creations. I really dont know if Vista is all that bad. I am happy with XP provided by office. I plan not to shift to Vista, unless forced. So the big question is, would you shift to Vista, even if it were to be free? More About: Microsoft , Worry , Irate

Who is a terrorist ?
2007-12-06 03:01:00 Mr. Narendra Modi has asked a very valid question. I wonder how come no one ever asked it for so long. What is the future for Mr Afzal Guru. I get a feeling that this Congress government is waiting for another hijacking to happen and it is able to release Mr Afzal 'Inncocent' Guru. Why the heck is government taking the killing of brave Indian Jawans lite. I feel they are more concerned with getting the votes banks right than doing right thing. I dont feel anything wrong with the fact that Mr Modi is trying to talk the right stuff, to counter the acid attack on him carried out with the worst kind of degratory words rather than certain actions which were aught to be taken by the Congress Government in power. But I seriously doubt that taking sides on the terrorist(Making assumptions based on all info available to me). Its like you want to make the supporter of Dawood Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of India. Yeh india ka naatak hain bhidu
2007-12-05 02:48:00 Well I dont know if accidentally I had made some correct statements in this post about sikhs. I was so sure that it had no intellectual value but then I read this story. So here its says that Mr Anil Ambani is at fault for 'allegedly' circulating derogatory jokes against the Sikh community through its mobile Internet services. The masterminds again are from Lucknow, Lucknow Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee(LGPC). Seems like Lucknow is fast turning hub for all kinds of religious intolerance and communalism. I would like the LGPC people to first read the classics by Khushwant Singh. His jokes are the best of their kind. He is one guy which really made the sardar jokes reach out to the market. Then came the MTV and Mr Cyrus Bakara. They took these jokes to the masses. Each one of the young generation waited to hear these jokes. The final death nail was the Great India n Laughter Challenge and Great Indian Comedy Show. Both of them literally taking humor and sardars to new heights. Th... More About: Hain
The pain of December 6, 1992
2007-12-02 18:31:00 I remember the day this thing happened. I was a kid at that time. When I heard of the Babri Masjid being demolished, some how my first reaction was not that of fear or disappointment but that of happiness. That feeling came to me instinctively. As a kid I did things on instinct and not with any logic or thought. It was more so because I had seen the video of the then video cassette based news channels Newtrack and Eyewitness. They were of the brutal killing of several innocent men, women and children during the first attempt a couple of years ago in 1990. I felt that something has been done to attack the system back which killed several innocents. It was a defeat for the Mulayam Singh who had then sided with the muslims and had done a massacre of Hindus in 1990. But now fifteen years later I feel different. There is remorse over killing of so many hindus as well as demolition of the mosque. But what's the way forward. You can get into an infinite loop of destroying and rebuilding... Yet another research which just.........
2007-11-30 19:33:00 Each researcher come up with an amazing new theory and I can do anything but..... you know what. I am talking about yet another research which talks about internet addiction. Its just stupid to say things like this. I wonder if television, phone and breathing also comes under the same category. These guys say "Internet addiction is not manifesting itself as an urge. It's more than that. It's a deep craving. They (the addicts) are just like anyone else who is addicted to coffee, exercise, or talking on their cellular phone" This supposed to be a big research. Something like telling you need to breadth else you will die. If someone is just crazy to talk all the time with someone, is that addiction. I think these researchers are really poor at English like me . Please suggest some better word than addiction to these guys. Barcamp Bangalore 5 - Will be missing it this time around
2007-11-16 12:09:00 I had attended Barcamp Bangalore 4. I liked the concept and decided that I will probably help out organize next time around, considering that its open to all. The old timers were really happy to get us on board. But the spoiler for me is the fact that I would have had been out of town on the days Barcamp was schedules. Having taken the dip in the organizing it, it was very much clear that whether I attend or not, let me just help if there is no one. I dont know if I was of any help or not, but I did argue a lot on a lot of matters. I hope that this Barcamp will again generate the enthusiasm and interest in people to do something beyond. There will be some technologies to be understood and some nuance to be cleared. So guys see in the next Barcamp, Hopefully . More About: Time , Missing , Arca
Theory of Stupidity
2007-11-15 12:25:00 Well its an interesting topic to research on. Though I am not doing any kind of Ph.D on it but still I feel I have had enough of such experiences to believe that I am able enough to talk about it. More so because I am a keen observer. I am always observing who is visiting my site for example. I have explained this theory to a lot of my friends. Interestingly never has anyone come up with a counter argument. Anyways lets get to the point. There is some smart guy(Me) who has formed the law of stupidity which goes as follows. Everyone is stupid. Smartness is actually just absence of stupidity Stupidity is proportional to hair length. First Law basically says is that "Stupidity is ubiquous". This means that stupidity is everywhere. Each one of us is stupid to some extent. Each one of us will act stupid in one situation or the other. Take me for example, I will act totally stupid when I am ta... More About: Theory , Theo

World Usability Day event at Bangalore
2007-11-07 06:16:00 5th November(instead of 8th because of Diwali) was celebrated as World Usability Day. Bangalore was not untouched by the phenomenon, though it would rather had been a major thing. But clearly with over 120(My guess) it was not ignorable event. Long time since the usability aspects have been ignored by the technologists. iPhone and iPod have clearly shown the way. They were nothing radical in concept but they infact radically changed the usability part of the respective equipments. I must add here that I was late for the event. But none the less I did have the opportunity to hear Mr MP Ranjan on Designing. His take on the Design for the user and design in various fields. Pretty much the whole talk is online at his blog http://design-for-india.blogspot.com/. But it was real experience to hear it from the horse's mouth. Theory of Success and Productivity!!!!
2007-10-31 11:47:00 I today got this amazing story to read from the master of 'office humor', Scott Adams. Usually he would write the stuff in a very discrete and sarcastic way. But today he missed the bigger point. So here is that point for u. There are two ingeniously stupid researchers who have come up with something interesting. This actually is worth the igNobel or "No Balls" if not the Nobel Prize. Research 1 says that Happiness = success. Research 2 says that Sadness = productivity. Now if I say that both researchers are earnestly true then I can form some real good mathematical equations. Sadness = No Happiness. Since Happiness = success, Sadness = No success. Hmmm now is the fun, as Sadness = Productivity , we can say that, Productivity = No Success Now effectively, No Productivity = Success. This clearly proves that harder you work, less successful you would be and your appraisal will reflect that. So for more success work less. If you have worked hard then don't c... Those 8 Questions - Question 6
More articles from this author:2007-10-30 20:50:00 The dictionary defines "faith" as belief without evidence. It defines "stupidity" as unreasoned thinking. Is faith without evidence a form of unreasoned thinking? Seems so very obvious isn't it. But if you tell the same in case of Ram Setu, well it seems all too obvious. But amazingly this was the very thing I was trying oppose. I had talked about how important is faith for every Indian. So whats wrong with it. Well faith whatsoever it may be is something which you believe in and has not been disproved. Its not just a belief without evidence rather its a belief with no contradicting evidence or unexplained phenomenon justified by some means. Your faith in those changes as soon as you find a logical or scientific explanation. The planetary positions and sun being center of the solar system were explained differently before Galileo came up with the proof, that was faith. Yes at times when people start believing in faith without any logic or reason... More About: Question , Questions 1, 2, 3 |
