A Small Step Forward For Train Service

The much talked about New Jersey-Pennsylvania Lackawanna Cutoff Rail Restoration got a boost this week from U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., who urged Amtrak and the New York state Department of Transportation to study providing passenger service from Binghamton south along the Intestate 81 corridor. The route will have added significance as officials in Pennsylvania and New Jersey push to provide passenger rail service between Scranton and Hoboken, N.J. By connecting Binghamton to Scranton, travelers could have a route from the Southern Tier to the Big Apple.

Rowland & Marsellus 10” rolled edge plate – Souvenir of Scranton, Pennsylvania. The plate was imported from Staffordshire, England in the early 1900’s for sale in the US. All of the scenes on the plate are of Scranton in an era long ago, around the turn of the last century - the center, the Court House and on the rolled edge, pictures of the Young Mens Christian Association building; Elm Park Methodist Church; the Coal Breaker building; the Albright Public Library; the Municipal Building; and the High School.

Alyssa Amori's Scranton: The Electric City is a collection of photographs originally taken for soldiers overseas. The photographs are beautiful and her book would be a welcome addition to any coffee table in the Electric City. I know I hope Santa leaves one under my tree.
