Kansas State Women Continue the Beat-Down

Our men’s team are not the only Wildcat’s on the hard boards who are kicking butt and taking names. Our women are playing fantastic. In the past some of our women’s teams allowed themselves to be pushed around…. whenever we came up against a more physical team we seemed to fade into the woodwork. Not this year---this is a team of stud muffins and I love their aggressive play Here is a recap of the big win against the hated KU Chickenhawks this Saturday:Kstatesports.comMarlies Gipson had 20 points and 14 rebounds on Saturday, helping No. 18 Kansas State overcome a ragged first half for a 64-58 win over rival Kansas. Kimberly Dietz scored 12 of her 15 points on 3-pointers in the first half and Ashley Sweat added 12 points for Kansas State (16-6, 8-1), off to its best Big 12 start since going 14-1 in 2002-03. My Political Observations.....I am not affiliated with either of the major political parties, but The Aging Disco Diva remembers the vicious comments made about Amy Carter when her dad was President. Hateful, hurtful and full of venom---basically saying she was ugly and was even referred to her as a dog (mind you she was just a preteen and teenager at the time) I was aghast at the time and was horrified when it happened again with Chelsea Clinton. Conservative Talk radio hosts felt no shame in bullying Chelsea, making fun of her appearance, and I guess it is still open season on her:MSNBC says it has temporarily suspended anchor David Shuster from all NBC news broadcasts ? except to offer his on-air apology for what he said about Chelsea Clinton.Shuster outraged the Clinton campaign by saying on the air that the campaign had "pimped out" the Clintons' daughter, when they had her place phone calls to party superdelegates on her mother's behalf.I guess I am confused...why did the B...

There was a wonderful article about the relationship between Clent Stewart and his mom. As I write this her funeral is going on and it seemed appropriate to share this with all of you....NewsOK.comSat February 9, 2008K-State's 'motivator' deals with tragic lossBy Andrea CohenStaff WriterClent Stewart drove from Manhattan, Kan., to Norman early Monday morning to tell his mother he loved her.On her deathbed, she responded: "Play hard.?Play hard. Study hard. These were messages Vanessa Stewart ingrained in her son as he was growing up in Tulsa. She passed her wisdom to Clent, now a senior at Kansas State, one last time on Monday. She died Tuesday after a long struggle with breast cancer."My dad called me Sunday at one in the morning to let me know she wasn't doing very well,? Stewart said. "He never told me ?Come down here right now.' He said ?Do what you have to do. Take care of your responsibilities.' That's exactly what my mom would say.?Stewart left first thing Monday morni...

Will Ferrell a Wildcat!
2008-02-08 23:44:00
Some fun K-State stuff...Will Farrell is one of those performers that I don?t care for as far as the roles he plays ( the exceptions being ?Elf?, More Cowbell, and his Pearl, the landlord skits,) but that I like as a person. He seems like a real fun guy who does not take himself too seriously and anyone who is comfortable enough to showcase his?how to put this? less than stellar bod, to make people laugh is ok in my book. Will has gone up a few more notches in my book after he performed at Kansas State last week:Will wearing the Purple Pride colors! Will with head football coach Ron PrinceMichael Beasley, Will Ferrell and Bill Walker Michael Beasley will be a millionaire someday (hopefully AFTER he spends four years at K-State) but he is such a ?man-child? that it is refreshing to see him enjoy life. Vanessa Stewart Passes Away
2008-02-07 17:07:00
Vanessa Stewart passes awayThe Wildcat nation was so saddened to hear about the passing of one of our own, Vanessa Stewart. Vanessa is the mother of Clent Stewart; a leader on and off the basketball court. Clent is not only a heck of a good basketball player; he is an excellent student, a perennial Academic All-Big 12 team member and a reflection of the great parenting he received from his Mom and Dad.Vanessa was always in the crowd, smiling and sporting the colorful head scarves she had to wear after losing her hair--first dealing with breast cancer and then bone cancer. She lost her brave fight with Stage 4 bone cancer and died Tuesday afternoon. Even while battling her illness Vanessa was a fixture at Bramlage Coliseum during Clent’s four years at Kansas State. She was in the crowd to witness the Wildcats' historic win over Kansas last Wednesday. Immediately after the buzzer sounded, Clent ran up in to the crowd to embrace her as his teammates celebrated on the floor.Earlier ...

Yes, Britney is out and about again....
2008-02-07 16:28:00
I am so f’n frustrated with this whole Britney crap…and I don’t even know the twit---she is neither a relative nor a friend….so how bad must it be for her parents? Granted they are to blame, to a large extent, for this out of control celebutard. When you pimp out your child to the entertainment industry and she is the major (or total) bread winner for the family it is hard to tell your meal ticket to “Shut up and behave” or even a simple “No, you can’t do that” I don’t think Britney had been told “No” very often as a child and teen star. “No” used judiciously is like a seasoning….and the lack of it results in an obnoxious, out of control, spoiled child…and eventually in a pathetic non-functioning adult. Yes, she is battling mental illness…but how do you separate the self-centered, spoiled brat who pitches a fit when she does not get her way from the illness? And OM f’n G….someone had to explain to her what “insomnia” was???? I guess we can ...

Juicy, Juicy, Juicy gossip!TMZ.com is reporting that they have obtained a copy of the restraining order against Sam Lufti and it is pure gossip gold.?According to the document, "He has cut Britney's home phone line and removed her cell phone chargers. He yells at her. He claims to control everything."According to a declaration filed by Lynne Spears, on January 28, Lynne and Jamie arrived for an intervention -- "Sam had told Britney that she was an unfit mother, a piece of trash and a whore, that she cares more about Adnan, her current boyfriend, than she cares about her kids, and that she does not deserve the kids."The documents claim Sam said, "Adnan is gay ... Britney came into the room looking for Adnan ... Britney then asked me, 'Is Adnan gay?"At one point, Britney "picked up a bottle of pills and read part of the label and asked us, 'What does insomnia mean?' Sam told her that the pills will help her stay awake." Lynne continues, "Sam told Jackie and me that he grinds up B...

Since my favorite pro footballs teams were not involved (Jets were out of it the second week of the season and the San Diego Chargers and Darren Sproles bit the dust in the playoffs) I was not all that interested in this year?s Super Bowl. I did watch the pregame and some of the commercials.I know it is fashionable to bash Paula Abdul (look up ditz in the dictionary and you will see her picture) but I loved her music back in the 80s and was pleasantly surprised with her new song, shown during the pregame festivities. Let?s get that sucker remixed so I can add it to my exercise music! The commercials were?OK?kinda blah?I did not think the hot air balloon ad was all that funny, the Doritos and Budweiser commercials were predictable, and some were just friggin? crappy---Sale Genie managed to be both boring and offensively racist?quite a feat.My favorites:1 .ThrillerAnything that combines dance music and lizards has my vote!2. Yesterday was Groundhog?s Day and after both the men?s and women?s KSU basketball teams lost a huge cloud of despair spread over the Wildcat nation which means the groundhog (or our version?the prairie dog) did not see its shadow so we will have an early spring.I do have a groundhog story to tell. The Aging Disco Diva considers herself to be one street smart cookie, but when she first strutted her neon and polyester stuff here in the midlands her lack of ?country? knowledge lead to some interesting situations?. Every little town in the middle of the country has an annual ?GroundHog? dinner?.and they all featured cute little groundhog cartoon characters on their signs and on the flyers posted all over the place. Now, though I was a gen-u-wine city slicker I knew what groundhogs were, of course. My brand new groom decided to take me to my first ?Groundhog supper? and as we entered the Knights of Columbus Hall I innocently asked him what was going to be served and without blinking an e...

The Aging Disco Diva is really dragging her polyester clad butt today. I hate it when I am feeling less than great but not quite sick enough to justify lying in bed all day. It was his anniversary show and Sarah Silverman (his girlfriend) was a guest?Sarah is definitely an acquired taste, but this skit was actually really funny and Matt Damon was hysterical. Well Britney is finally where she needs to be---safely in a hospital. I have been waiting before writing about this hoping that information would be forthcoming letting everyone know exactly WTF is going on, but we still keep getting conflicting stories. The confirmed facts seem to be that she is in a psychiatric unit at the UCLA medical center; she had not slept in over 72 hours, and was definitely in the manic phase of her illness. We hear that she was on Adderal and taking a crapload of laxatives daily (pun intended) WTF? Ten laxatives a day! Holy crap (pun intended) ten laxatives a day would make anyone fall off the mental balance beam. It also explains why she was constantly running into gas station bathrooms?but again, WTF? If I had a case of the trots (self-induced or not) I don?t see myself straying too far from home?but I guess that is just me. It is though, the ?rest of the story? or at least the rest of what is being discussed on the internet, that is so biza...

I know I said that I would not be posting this evening but the Aging Disco Diva is lit up like Christmas tree...I spent the greater part of this evening screaming my head off, pacing like a woman possessed and consuming adult beverages as I watched my Wildcats BEAT our much hated rival. Damn that sounds good. There is no way I will be able to fall asleep for hours... I am still on an adrenalin high. I cried like a baby at the end of this game. Only a fellow Wildcat could understand the depth of the pain we have suffered for the last 24 years. In fact I tivo'd the game and am watching it again. Hell, I might watch it two or three times before I go to bed.Final score KSU 84 and KU 75...and that was despite some really crappy refereeing. Beasley was practically violated several times during the game and nothing was called. For once though, I will admit that KU actually had SOME calls made against them and Bill Toupee Self about flipped his rug several times. And oh yeah...Remember Ole...

I feel like I am eight years old again and in the back seat of the family car waiting, waiting to get to our destination. Are we there yet? Except that I am an old Disco Diva, sitting in my office, waiting, waiting for tonight's basketball game. Is it time yet? Someone on the GoPowerCat.com board, hoping to refocus our A.D.D. fans' attention back to the important game tonight and away from some bull sheeyat about a football recruit's complaints asked about KU jokes. I have a million of 'em (one can never have enough KU jokes) so to pass the time I decided to post some of them here.WARNING: if you are an easily offended PC warrior you shouldn't even be reading my blog in the first place...but if you are still here....the following WILL offend you so...go away.Coach Mangino recently got lost in the KC area on a recruiting trip. EL DORADO, Kan. - For all the talk about Barack Obama's quest to be the first black president, his visit to his grandfather's hometown Tuesday was a reminder that it is only half the story. Obama is the son of an African father and a white mother from this heartland state, which holds its presidential caucus Feb. 5. "We're family!" The Aging Disco Diva Dolittle What does an Aging Disco Diva do when she has an empty nest? Fill it with critters. My youth was a foreshadowing of things to come. When I was a kid, living in 'Da Bronx, a bunch of do-gooders rounded up kids from the projects every summer and shipped us off to the Fresh Air Camp upstate in Peekskill for a couple of weeks. While many of my fellow campers spent their days moping and nights crying I loved every single second?.well, every second except for the latrines. I hated those damn things?it was a friggin? pipe over a hole in the ground you had to relieve yourself in. I have always had a very, very active imagination which serves me well as a person who believes in visualization and positive thinking, but not so great if you are a kid trying to take a dump in a latrine. I just KNEW there were all types of mutant creatures living down that hole who were just waiting for my fat little Puerto Rican butt to settle on that metal can so that the...
