Vanessa Stewart Passes Away
2008-02-07 17:07:00 Vanessa Stewart passes awayThe Wildcat nation was so saddened to hear about the passing of one of our own, Vanessa Stewart. Vanessa is the mother of Clent Stewart; a leader on and off the basketball court. Clent is not only a heck of a good basketball player; he is an excellent student, a perennial Academic All-Big 12 team member and a reflection of the great parenting he received from his Mom and Dad.Vanessa was always in the crowd, smiling and sporting the colorful head scarves she had to wear after losing her hair--first dealing with breast cancer and then bone cancer. She lost her brave fight with Stage 4 bone cancer and died Tuesday afternoon. Even while battling her illness Vanessa was a fixture at Bramlage Coliseum during Clent’s four years at Kansas State. She was in the crowd to witness the Wildcats' historic win over Kansas last Wednesday. I have been waiting before writing about this hoping that information would be forthcoming letting everyone know exactly WTF is going on, but we still keep getting conflicting stories. The confirmed facts seem to be that she is in a psychiatric unit at the UCLA medical center; she had not slept in over 72 hours, and was definitely in the manic phase of her illness. We hear that she was on Adderal and taking a crapload of laxatives daily (pun intended) WTF? Ten laxatives a day! Holy crap (pun intended) ten laxatives a day would make anyone fall off the mental balance beam. It also explains why she was constantly running into gas station bathrooms?but again, WTF? If I had a case of the trots (self-induced or not) I don?t see myself straying too far from home?but I guess that is just me. 2008-01-31 06:30:00 I know I said that I would not be posting this evening but the Aging Disco Diva is lit up like Christmas tree...I spent the greater part of this evening screaming my head off, pacing like a woman possessed and consuming adult beverages as I watched my Wildcats BEAT our much hated rival. Damn that sounds good. There is no way I will be able to fall asleep for hours... I am still on an adrenalin high. I cried like a baby at the end of this game. Only a fellow Wildcat could understand the depth of the pain we have suffered for the last 24 years. In fact I tivo'd the game and am watching it again. Hell, I might watch it two or three times before I go to bed.Final score KSU 84 and KU 75...and that was despite some really crappy refereeing. Beasley was practically violated several times during the game and nothing was called. My coffee machine went belly up today right after breakfast and I was involved with conference calls and phone meetings until after 5pm so I was unable to get my java fix. I love having a job that lets me work in my pajamas (yes, those jobs do exist for a lucky few) but the downside is that I have no one around to run and get me a latte. After chewing a few handfuls of espresso grinds to tide me over I headed to the store to get a replacement. 2008-01-17 21:28:00 Aging Disco Divas don?t do snow?well, at least this diva doesn?t, but I was running out of coffee beans, chocolate bon-bons, Krispy Kreme doughnuts and caviar (the four major food groups) So I grumpily pulled on my Afghan fur trimmed coat and put on my platform boots (think the Olsen Twins?well perhaps four or five Olsen Twins?the Diva HAS been hitting the Godiva chocolate a bit hard since Halloween) fired up the exploding Pinto, and headed to the store. For you young pups: Here is what an Afghan fur trimmed coat looks like. Great little coat; every disco diva owned at least one---the smell it emits when wet is a natural bug repellent--eau de wet dog...but I digress....Well, anyway?.as I was tottering towards the coffee isle I did see Andrew Morton ?s Unauthorized Tom Cruise biography on sale so I grabbed a copy; as I said in an earlier posting, I have been dying to get a hold of this....any book that is causing 8 million foil hat wearing adherents to be walking around since Tuesday...
