One of the many Things I Always Forget to Blog About... Skill Mocking
2008-05-20 14:25:00
I know I'm not the only one that constantly tries to 'remind' herself; "You've got to remember to blog about that!" and like a dummy, I always think I will. And within 4 minutes it's completely gone from my brain. The next morning when I sit down to write the "Coffee Talk" blog I am stumped thinking; "What was that I was going to blog about!? It was so _____ (cute, funny, horrible, ugly..

I Love Brad Paisley - Uh, Like a Brother I Mean
2008-05-20 04:47:00
When it comes to music I'm an eclectic sort. When my laptop is on 'random' play you never know what you'll get. I'll be singing along with "If I Were a Rich Man" from Fiddler on the Roof and the next song to come on from my files will be Limp Bizkits version of "Gotta Have Faith" and before you know it "I Wanna Be a Cowboys Sweetheart" will come on or even Gregorian Chants followed by an

Putting Your Money Where Your Mouth Is... Stateless Societies
2008-05-20 03:25:00
Have you ever wanted to go swimming in a pool, lake or the ocean and you start by dipping your toe in to test the waters? You may then wade in a bit and let yourself get used to it and then go in a little deeper. While on one hand it is refreshing and eye opening, it also may make you gasp a little, and as you walk you get a little deeper, a little deeper, and if you are not careful you

The Post inwhich I Blog About Something I Know Nothing About
2008-05-19 20:08:00
Yesterday while my best friend and I were running errands she said she wanted to buy flowers to plant to help get the landscaping ready for the house to go on the market. "Ok, where do you want to go?" "I don't care..." "Well, considering we're driving... and we have to drive somewhere so now might be a good time to make a decision." "Mmm, there's a Lowes nearby or we could go to Menards or

Let Me Just Add That to My List
2008-05-19 17:58:00
Although I'd love to blame my sitting here at 1:00 and posting instead of doing well, everything else I should be doing on 'ADD' I'm mature enough to know that it's really more like 'lack of self discipline'. I hate following through with projects or chores all the way through once they stop being 'fun' anymore. I've been known to stop folding clothes in the middle of being done, quit unloading

Yes, I really did tie my skater shoes... and I went out in public
2008-05-19 15:10:00
Here is a photo my son took of me yesterday to show you my felony of wearing skater shoes... tied! *gasp* But I would like add that while waiting in line to pay for my friends items I was stopped by a 12/13 year old girl who said, (and I quote); "I LOVE YOUR SHOES!" No lie. So there! LOL.

Being Anti-Social in a Good Way
2008-05-19 14:57:00
Yesterday I was running errands with that 'very pregnant' friend of mine while we tried to knock out a few more of the 'must do' projects to get their home on the market to sell. While running her errands I tried to do a couple of mine as well, which was looking for a certain tree I knew my neighbors wanted and also keeping an eye out for a light to go above the pool table in the basement family

Don't Lace Your Skater Shoes. I Got it.
2008-05-18 18:23:00
Getting ready to leave I realize I should wear shoes. Preferably tennis shoes. My daughters make fun of my old Reeboks so I take inventory of their 8 pairs of tennis shoes and chose one of my 12 year olds. They are 1/2 size too big and it feels funny. I chose instead, a pair that my 12 year old grew out of. They fit perfectly. Except they are 'skate shoes' and you can't lace up skate shoes

Yearbook photos botched in 'unfortunate lapse' McKINNEY, Texas (AP) -- School officials say they are appalled by altered photos -- including heads on different bodies -- in hundreds of McKinney High School yearbooks delivered this week. Besides the head and body switching, some necks were stretched, one girl's arm was missing and another girl's head was placed on what appeared to be a nude
Sunday... Before Coffee
2008-05-18 14:55:00
For about 2 weeks my husband has wondered what was happening to our 11 flowering pear tree's that were planted last year. They all came back this Spring but one by one the tips would turn black and die and the leaves were incredibly droopy. He trimmed away all the black tips last week and mentioned it to me, but I never really paid attention. On Friday we discussed it for about 2 minutes and

Stupid Boys
2008-05-17 04:54:00
It's a good thing I grew up in a family with three brothers and no sisters. God was just getting me ready for life with a son of my own. Stupid Boy. Stupid Mistake number one: When upper classmen from your high school in cars and trucks yell "Hey Freshmen! Get in!" - Decline. Stupid Mistake number two: When sitting in the back of said-truck, do not text friends on your cell phone. Leave

My Phone Would Be Ringing Off the Hook... You Know - If I Uh, Was Listed in
2008-05-16 04:11:00
When you live in a small town there are certain things you have to accept. You have to accept that the whole town is either best friends or related to each other. You have to accept that whatever may or may not be going on in your life is going to be fodder for gossip... even if it's something as boring as your neighbor seeing you plant a new shrub on the West side of your house... I SWEAR to

2008-05-16 04:03:00
The paperwork for my 20 year high school reunion is sitting in the 'file pile' and has been for oh, 5 or 6 weeks now. I've glanced at it a couple times but I really don't know that I'm going. Part of me would like to - just to see the 4 or 5 people that I really might like to see. But the other part of me? Uh, not so much. I didn't have much in common with them 20 years ago and somehow I
WHY do I care??? But... I do. I admit it. I CARE about Angelina. There.
2008-05-15 16:24:00
Angelina has confirmed she is pregnant with TWINS. And... I'm happy for her, and a little jealous both for being pregnant with twins and that Brad is the Daddy... (LOL). And WHY do I care? I don't know. But I do. She's just so darn cute I can't help it.

The latest on the fake mutual fund....
2008-05-15 02:36:00
I realized that I hadn't updated the 'mutual fund' that I was helping my FIL sort out and decided to do a quick recap on that little fiasco as well. Some of you might remember already but I'll recap quickly... My FIL came to visit 2 weeks ago and while he was here mentioned to me that perhaps I could help with something. Oh boy.... Sure enough, it's a doozy but then again it always is with

Still Helping my Fil with everything from that fake mutual fund to cellphon
2008-05-15 02:03:00
Of the many things I'm trying to help my 80 year old FIL with, I've managed to tackle a couple of them and I'm working on a couple more. Tonight I've been working on the cell phone issue. I actually didn't know that my FIL even had a cellphone until he was here visiting two weeks ago. He said something about having his cellphone with him and I said, "What? You have a cell phone? Why didn't

A Smoothie I Wouldn't Want to Drink
2008-05-14 16:28:00
You all know I haven't watched television since 1998 so there are things I completely miss or don't hear about at all (not that I mind, mostly) and much of it is on the internet anyway so between articles and videos of the episodes on tv, I see and hear pretty much everything in my own time and my own terms. So I'm a little slow when it comes to hearing about "Ten Superfoods" (apparently this

Morning Revelations While Putting Away the Deli Ham
2008-05-14 14:16:00
*This first paragraph makes it sound like it's a sappy lovey dovey Hallmark card post... LOL. It's not.* As I placed my hand on the door of the refrigerator to put away the bagels, cream cheese and ham from making my daughter a cold lunch for school today, my eyes glanced at the magnet that has graced the front of the fridge since Sunday; Mothers Day. It's a pink magnet with a poem on the

I Like What a I Do... And it's Helpful Too!
2008-05-14 13:29:00
When I resigned a year ago from my last job I tried to be a full time housewife and mother but you guys were with me during that struggle... I never quite came to terms with the fact that I wasn't working anymore. It was an odd twilight zone kind of place to be in - I would have my coffee, glance at the clock and realize it was 8:00 and my heart would skip seven beats thinking I was going to be
Bring it On Mother Nature... Bring it On

Monday I wasn't online much... almost not at all actually. After hemming and hawing about no money to go with the strong urge to get my garden 'in' I decided to take a deep breath and get the plastic out... yes, it went on credit card but I'm hoping on payday this Friday I can put an immediate payment to the balance. Off I went to the store and since Coffeehusbands day 'off' this week was

Rambo - First Blood is Coming Back to a Theater Near You (ok... only for on
2008-05-14 04:57:00
It was to be a romantic night. It started with a phone call, asking me out for dinner and movie. By the end of the phone call it was a 'double date' and I was to get one of my friends to go out with his friend. We'd head to the 'city' near us that still had a drive-in movie theater (complete with the speaker box you hang on your window). In the end I wouldn't call it romantic. He washed his

A Tale of Three Closets (A True Story)

How come the invitations and announcements of today are so much cooler than
2008-05-13 16:02:00
In just a few weeks my husband and I are going to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. It's amazing that this much time has gone by already as it seriously (!) feels like it's only been about 8 or 9 years at most. Although I'd love to be whisked away for a romantic cruise to celebrate, I think a more realistic outlook is that perhaps we'll hold a small reception here with friends and family.

Three Years Ago this Spring We Finally Made our Will....
2008-05-13 15:19:00
It took 15 years, 10 moves, 3 kids and finally, our very first vacation ever without children coming with us to finally getting around to making a will. (Remember those posts from about 3 years ago?). Now, thanks to that 'vacation kick in the butt' everything is in order, from financial to who will raise the children if something happens to us. Between our retirement and insurance the kids

The Year My Mothers Day Gift Came From the Gas Station
2008-05-12 15:02:00
Yesterday morning I awoke to coffee that had been preprogrammed by my husband to come on after he left for work. He also left me my favorite cream horns for breakfast and a card that I can't show to the children. LOL. He had to work yesterday so he had left the house by 5:15 am. Our basement held three boys; Coffeekid and two of his teenaged friends. Upstairs my 17 year old daughter slept

For All the Mothers Like Me Who "Don't Work"
2008-05-11 15:21:00
My Wife Doesn't "Work " By Gary Lautens Is there anything more embarrassing today than being married to a woman who doesn't "work?" Take Jackie. She weaves, spins wool, attends classes twice a week at art college and is currently putting together a seven- foot tapestry she designed for the living room. She also whips up a hundred meals a week, irons a dozen shirts, waxes and washes the
