It's Just the Coffee Talking
Behind every successful woman... is a substantial amount of coffee. It's me, chatting over morning coffee with my readers about any topic from apologetics to zero gravity.

"The Last Lecture"
2008-05-03 18:23:00
A few months ago friend and fellow blogger, Kel, emailed me the now-famous video of Randy Pausch's lecture on achieving your childhood dreams. At the time I had never seen it, nor did I know what she was sending, but as I sat down to watch I was drawn in. What a powerful message and what a sad story! To know that this college professor was diagnosed with cancer, his last lecture held even more
My Old Organization is Apparently Looking to Fill My Old Position... again
2008-05-03 15:01:00
I've been home full time since the first of November and although I have my hands full and I'm quite happy doing some freelance writing while I run our household full time, I admit I still browse the career ads online. This week I saw an ad placed for a position in my hometown that I thought sounded perfect and I briefly considered sending my resume, except it was placed by an agency and I

Typical FIL... why oh why???
2008-05-02 23:13:00
In the first 3 hours of my FIL's visit I find out through conversation that he has a cell phone for emergencies but he can't use it. It seems he walked into Radio Shack one day last year and told them he wanted a phone for emergencies but didn't really need it for anything more. They sold him a cheap pay-as-you-go phone that he has to bring in to have 'programmed' each month and every month he

Done! Something I've been putting off for about a month now I finally made myself sit down and get it done. What it is that was so important yet so easily put off? I needed to upload our family photos from my digital camera for safe keeping. All our vacation pictures and prom pictures as well my birthday and my sons first varsity track meet... all saved. I think you only have to have your

My 80 year old FIL has no idea who his son even is......
2008-05-02 20:50:00
I've been 'chatting' with the inlaws and trying to keep them entertained for 24 hours now except for the time spent blessedly asleep. But... my patience are (is?) wearing... thin thin thin. Such very different personalities and even different age groups as my parents are still in their late 50's and my FIL is turning 80 next month. They are at the Middle School at my daughters presentation

Found the Bracelet... Now, how about a new ring?
2008-05-02 20:12:00
Over the past 1 1/2 weeks that we've been home from vacation I've been going crazy looking for the bracelet I bought on vacation at the beach. I'm not much of a jewelry girl, preferring just a few classic pieces that I can wear with many different looks or outfits so I don't own a hundred and when I find one or two I like I grow quite attached to them! I knew it had to be in the house

2008-05-02 13:07:00
Shhh... we have inlaws and outlaws all over the place! :) I've been awake since 4:am but didn't venture downstairs until 6:am as I have a FIL on the couch in the living room at the base of the stairs. I have parents in the basement just under the kitchen and family room and my Dad sleeps as light as I do so just walking on the floor is enough to wake him. However, I'll be whipped 7 times

Let's Make May Baskets!
2008-05-01 14:52:00
It's May 1st! May Day! A time to surprise your neighbors, co-workers and friends with a tiny little basket of goodwill and Spring. Whether you have time to make little basket shaped cone-goodies like cream horns; Or you purchase little plastic baskets from the dollar store or even use a tiny little plastic 'berry' basket from the grocery store with a pipe cleaner handle... Or add some

I'd Say the Kid was Imaginative and the School was Too Harsh
2008-04-30 18:18:00
As the parent of 2 teenagers and one 'almost' teen I could only laugh when I read this in the news yesterday. I thought it was brilliant! Kudos to the kid that thought of it and no... I obviously don't agree with the punishment they received (I believe it's too harsh... whatever happened to letting the punishment fit the crime? Our society is just run amok ever since that whole 'sue McDonalds

What Was the First Meal You Made Your New Spouse?
2008-04-30 14:14:00
For the last 2 days I've been trying to think of the very first meal I made for my husband after we were married and moved into our new apartment. I have to preface "... and moved into our own apartment" because in our case we married, went on the honeymoon and then while I returned home from the airport, he continued on to fly to Los Angeles for a week to look for housing for us while I stayed

Knee Jerk Reactions and Foster Care
2008-04-30 13:39:00
First: The news article; Dad's Oversight Lands Son In Foster Care ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- An Ann Arbor couple's 7-year-old son ended up in foster care over Mike's Hard Lemonade. Christopher Ratte, 47, a professor at University of Michigan, claims he accidentally gave his son, Leo, some of the alcoholic beverage at Comerica Park a few weeks ago. He said he didn't even know the alcoholic lemonade

Almost 9:00 already??? WTH? (That's 'heck' BTW)
2008-04-29 15:45:00
Ooops... got busy and never got back. LOL. Imagine that! Ok - well as busy as we already are guess what? At 5:06 pm last night I was sitting on the kitchen floor cutting out a pattern for a 1760's style dress while I was also in the process of making dinner and talking on the phone to a board member of the Booster Club when my cell phone beeped, but I couldn't answer as I was already talking
First Attempt At Morning Coffee... Deemed Failure
2008-04-29 14:04:00
Coffee is almost ready... I keep glancing that way to see if it's ready yet as yawn after yawn break upon my face like waves on the beach. I'm sooo tired! Yet... I shouldn't be. I fell into bed exhausted last night at 8:30 and while I attempted to read my book I found myself jerking awake many times before I admitted defeat and turned out the light. Yes. 8:30 pm. I felt like such a loser!

ARGH! SCHEDULES!
2008-04-28 18:13:00
Although I could easily handle having 5 or 7 kids, it's probably a good thing I only have three. I seem to be busy enough as it is. I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with the dentist's office trying to make appointments for the three kids. Between what she had open, and my own kids schedules we managed to get one (1) appointment made and finally, with both of us exasperated, gave up trying
Pearls for Graduation Gifts? Perfect.
2008-04-28 17:48:00
In addition to laundry, dishes and the cleaning I'm doing, I'm also trying to get birthday cards mailed out, numerous appointments made and registrations taken care of. One of those 'registrations' I thought was going to be a quick, simple task ended up being quite time consuming. It was registration for ACT testing for my 17 year old in preparation for college next year. During the process

Morning Coffee Talk: Kids, Kat and Rude Parents
2008-04-28 14:48:00
After you've kept a kid for 17 years, is it too late to give them back? Change your mind? Ask for a new model? Sigh. I tell ya, Kat's been driving me insane for the past year. She has the personality and conversation skills of her fathers side of the family so communication with her is like pulling teeth... (out of a ferocious tiger in her case - she adds that little touch herself). Well,

Heavily Edited Prom Photos... You Ask, I Find a Way to Deliver!
2008-04-28 01:59:00
Judy and Fantastagirl... your wish is 'kindof', 'sortof' my command. LOL. I heavily edited the faces of the kids friends (and one of them even my own kids faces!) so you could get a glimpse of some of the dresses. My sons date (in the bronze iridescent orange gown) had a gown much like my daughters last year. It was gorgeous. She is beautiful too! Her icy blue eyes are captivating and

The Prom is Done... Long Live the Prom!
2008-04-27 15:57:00
This years prom is almost officially over. Once the tuxes are returned and the kids are awake to tell me about it I will cross '2nd prom' off my list and think to myself; "only about 7 or 8 more to go!" Kat went last year as a Sophomore, of course this year as a Junior and still has next years Senior. My son went this year as a Freshman (the only male Freshman asked to go out of the whole

Prom... Underway
2008-04-26 18:45:00
The day started early and although it's been a nice slow pace thus far the race will be on soon enough. Kat was gone to 'downtown' in the city to decorate. Around 9:40 Coffeekid and I left to go pick up both his date and Kat's dates flowers. The florist saw us and exclaimed "Oh! We totally changed it!" and proceeded to tell us what CK's date had not. Apparently she brought her dress into

It's 7:00 am on A Saturday Morning! You Didn't Sleep In Did You!??
2008-04-26 14:53:00
Coffee. Strong. Coffee. Ahhh. This morning started bright and early at 5:15 when I woke to blow my nose (yet again). At 5:45 my husband got up to get ready for work. At 6:30 my oldest daughter got up and got ready to drive downtown with friends to decorate the auditorium they rented for junior prom. At 7:45 I heard the home phone ringing but since it's a cordless and wasn't in it's cradle

An Observation about What I Eat When I Have a Bad Cold
2008-04-26 02:58:00
I don't think this makes sense, but 'tis true; when I have a horrible head cold I am very, very hungry but I only want junk food. I've noticed this before, but since I rarely get truly sick, it's not something I think about often. When I have the flu I don't want to eat or drink anything at all. When I have a cold I am very hungry, but the only things that sound good are... well, crap. Today

Free Pattern for Bootie Bag
2008-04-25 21:16:00
I was actually surfing to find ideas for a costume I need to have made for my daughter by next Monday for her to dress as Phillis Wheatley for school, but you know how things go on the internet... one click leads to another, to another, to another and I found a pattern to make a purse from an old bra (tacky and cheap... I'm not sending you there) but also on the site was a very simple, no sew

The Long Running Joke... Will I Ever Get a New Watch?
2008-04-25 20:44:00
A couple months ago I was with my daughter and one of her friends and the issue of my birthday came up. My daughter and I joked about whether or not I would finally get a watch from my husband. I got a great laugh when my daughters friend asked, "You want what?" "A watch." "Why? Don't you have a cell phone?" LOL... yes I have a cell phone but I still would like a watch! A watch is not

There are none so blind as those who will not see.... Barack Obama
2008-04-25 20:02:00
Although I don't regularly talk politics or religion, those who visit for morning coffee talk regularly know that I have no qualms saying I absolutely do not trust Obama and think anyone who votes for him simply has not done enough homework. Although I don't care for Hillary either, at least she is a true American at heart. Heidianne has posted a great blog entry here that may be a little

I don't know if I'm going to have coffee or not this morning.... (edited)
2008-04-25 14:24:00
Question: Should one even bother to drink coffee when one can't taste it anyway? Yes, I'm still battling a nasty head cold that leaves me zapped of all energy and cough, sneezing and blowing my nose constantly. As a matter of fact my husband informed me yesterday he knows no one who has ever blown their nose as much as I do. Yeah bub... keep talking. We'll see how many tissues you go through

If not - let me enlighten you first; Men who frequently m*sturbate appear to have a lower risk of developing prostate cancer, Australian researchers reported. Who Knows.. I May End Up Making a $7,000 Purchase in Nigeria!
2008-04-24 16:47:00
Those following the ongoing mini-saga of the missing orthodontic retainers were cheering me on getting the hotel to reimburse me, but there is a lingering issue that I'm afraid could come back and haunt me regarding the process I had to go through to get reimbursed. Remember how I posted that they had me fill out a typical Lost and Found paper that I assumed would be transferred into their

What Was Your Prom Like?
2008-04-24 13:59:00
My best friend emailed me last night to invite me to 'help' her paint this weekend as they are desperately trying to get their home on the market and move before their baby comes (it's due in a month... I don't think this is going to happen) and I had to respond that although painting on Saturday sounded great, I'd have to decline as I would be trying to get two kids off to prom and that prom

So... What's Up in the CoffeeHaus? (*updated*)
2008-04-23 23:37:00
Oh... everything and nothing. Typical busy days but that's to be expected. Last night I spent over 3 hours sitting at my sons track meet. During his first run he was first place, at least 5 feet in front of the next runner but when they read off the results later of that run his name wasn't even mentioned. The only thing I can think of is that he happened to be wearing the exact same colors
Walk Down Memory Lane... Remember Lita Ford?
2008-04-23 05:01:00
I already mentioned I had found a file of 'old' photos and one of them was a picture of my husband and Lita Ford when we ran into her one time in Hollywood. Remember; Coffeehusband went to school at M.I.T (Musicians Institute of Technology) for guitar and the school is right between Hollywood Blv. and Sunset. He walked the 'walk of stars' every day just to get to McDonalds for lunch or dinner
