Best Blogs of the Week II
2008-03-10 19:19:00 I would like to start out this weekly round up of the best blogs of the week by giving a shout out to Cre8Buzz (http://www.cre8buzz.com) . I did a screen shot of my site analytics tool that displays my top traffic referrers from the last week and I think its worth noting where I consistently get a lot of traffic. I think this is helpful information for other bloggers as they get a little candid Joeprah info and if traffic is their thing they can use this to help get them some more. Click the below picture for the blown up version. First, it is amazing to me that Cre8buzz (http://www.cre8buzz.com) with about 2,000 users (small in the grand internet scheme of things) drives so much traffic to other folks sites. If you haven't been to cre8buzz I can say (with proof) you are missing out. I have 318 referring links from cre8buzz (http://www.cre8buzz.com) total which puts them in fourth place as far as a referrer. Fourth place. Just let that kinda settle in. Just imagine ... The Messy Living Room: A Silent Movie
2008-03-08 22:15:00 Ah, the mess kids make. I am not sure about your kids, but my kids make messes. They a make these messes often. Often times these messes go days without being cleaned up. I almost broke my neck the other day when I stepped on one of those darn My Little Ponies. Over time, I have started to think of my kids as criminals. I mean, they don't listen to me (about the messes) and I know this because they keep making messes. So, I have started to come up with new and creative ways to get my kids to clean up. This video is a tribute to the kids and the messes they make, my kids, Benny Hill, silent films and in some smaller degree a tribute to Joeprah. Anyways, just watch it already. Shopping with Joeprah
2008-03-07 20:04:00 Come along on a journey with Joeprah as he takes baby girl to Target. See a little behind the scenes action of the life of a stay at home dad as he looks to customize his Sony mini DV camcorder. Once again, lame but somehow interesting enough to make you watch it. Enjoy. kgpoUoo7qwU**Note: Be on the look out as I misspell at least one word per video. Extra credit for the commentor who finds the error first.** More About: Shopping

Best Blogs of the Week I
2008-03-04 15:38:00 So, like most obsessive compulsive people I take things to extremes. I am not sure how many blogs most folks have in their readers, but I have a ton (88). I eventually get to all of them at least once within the week. Granted some of the blogs aren't updated religiously, and some are updated, seemingly, more than once a day (Secret Agent Mama (http://www.secretagentmama.com/blog/) for instance). Anyways, I thought it would be cool if I shared with my readers some of the more interesting posts that I have found in my blogosphere throughout the week and give my blogging buds a shout out in the process. First, Jared from Dadthing.com (http://www.joeprah.com) did a great post about a new TV show called My Dad is Better Than Your Dad (http://dadthing.com/2008/02/25/my-dad-is -better-than-your-dad/) . A little about Jared, Jared is a fellow dad blogger who is a very enthusiastic dad and posts videos and pictures regularly about his uber cute kid 'Ace'. His wife als... More About: Blogs , Week
The Many Uses of Kids' Toys: Volume II
2008-03-02 19:28:00 This is the second installment in the series that looks at the many uses of kids toys. In this video edition you will see what happens when necessity once again becomes the mother of invention as a stalled helium inflated balloon is stuck at the apex of a cathedral ceiling. The editing in this video may not be for all tastes, but it is already being touted as a marvel of modern cinema. Enjoy! P0skJ9EF9UA More About: Kids , Toys , Volume
Are Clustr Maps Accurate?
2008-03-01 14:31:00 I am not sure how many of my fellow bloggers have widgets on their sidebars that track traffic through cool mapping tools, but I seen quite a few of them out there. I picked up the Clustr Maps widget almost a year ago and have found it to be anything but reliable. You might be wondering, Joeprah, where do you get your proof? Well, loyal reader, I used a website traffic analytics tool that I almost forgot I had recently and what i came to discover was that I have quite a bit more traffic than Clustr Maps accounted. On average over the past week I was receiving 100 unique visitors a day per Clustr Maps, but in reality I was receiving somewhere along the lines of 300-400 unique visitors a day. Thanks for nothing Clustr Maps. It is a neat-o widget, don't get me wrong. And the price, free, is great. But it really leaves quite a bit to be desired as far as tracking actual traffic to your website. I guess it really does provide some bit of useful information, but, it must be...
Lollipop Land
2008-02-29 08:27:00 I am not sure if shops, institutions, textile mills and other places of business near you do this, but virtually every place of business I frequent during my daily trips are none other than a lollipop hot spot or a lollipop free zone by my daughters--especially my two year old. Yesterday (from whenever you are reading this), I had to drive my daughters to school because they missed the bus and that means I had to bring my two year old along as well. Since they had simply missed the bus and weren't late all I had to do was drop them off in front of the school and not go in, which is preferrable when you aren't wearing shoes in the middle of the winter. Anyways, no issue, my two school aged girls get out of the car and head off to school with a kiss and well wishes, but as my youngest and I began to drive away she screamed, What about my lollipop! She was devastated. You see, whenever we go into the elementary school to pick the girls up early or bring them in late ... More About: Land
Joeprahs Podcast #1
2008-02-27 11:45:00 So, I truly have went off the deep end now. I have made a video podcast of yours truly for my readers to enjoy. Ok, here is my mission statement for the podcasts that feature me. I would like to show people a behind the scenes look into the world of a stay at home dad. I would like to allow my readers to get to know me a little better. I would like to find out if it is worth doing again.I would like to know if I should just stick to the kid centered videos or do more of these. pCvmMrO2Yek Your turn, what do you think? Word! Of the Day Volume V
2008-02-26 21:14:00 So, today I had lunch with my brother-in-law, who also is a stay at home dad. We had some Chick-Fil-A. It, of course, ruled. And we talked about the new blog he started. You see, my brother-in-law is an amazing photographer and wants to promote himself and his business, which he runs hand in hand with his wife, through the power of the internet and through the platform of a blog. Together they are as talented as anyone out there; intelligent, funny, and inovative they make a great team. Anyways, I spent sometime listening to his game plan (awesome) and lent what little advice I could (took like 25 seconds). If you all want to watch a great couple with a loads of talent from their infancy in the blogosphere then check them out at jthomasblog.com (http://www.jthomasblog.com). Now, back to the business at hand. Another installment of the groundbreaking series Word ! Of the Day. Enjoy!ad5YSojGSgc More About: Volume , Word of the Day

The Many Uses of Kids' Toys I
2008-02-23 20:38:00 Somethings make me smile more than others. Seeing a grown up using a kids' toy as a tool always brightens my day. I have done this myself many times because A) I have opposable thumbs and B) my IQ is staggering. Now that I said my IQ is staggering I will mispell at least ten words. Back to the toys, I have used toys to stand on to reach things around my house, I have used them to help me reach things under our couch, and I have used toys to help me see in the dark. Toys seem to come in handy more than you would think. I also think that little baby toys, due to their sturdiness, are capable of being used more often. As children get older the toys get smaller and less useful. I mean, what the heck am I going to use a Littlest Pet Shop for? Anyways, I thought it would be cool to keep a running journal through posts whenever I see toys being used for other purposes besides their original intent. I got this idea when I saw my wife perched atop a sturdy little plastic desk... More About: Kids

Nerd Alert: Joeprah Revealed
2008-02-21 18:34:00 A lot of people ask me, who is Joeprah? Who is the guy behind the website? Who is the person responsible for the hole in the ozone? Wait, just the first two. I don't think I did the ozone thing anyways. I really was inspired to come out of the nerd closet by reading my friend Wendy's recent post (http://wendylbolm.blogspot.com/2008/02/g ovi-first-paragraphs-of-first-two.html). Apparently, and I don't know how I missed the memo, this is like nerd week or something for bloggers. Anyways, I thought it would be a great idea to share a little bit about what makes Joeprah a nerd. First, I started and ran a chess club. Period. I don't think any game is more associated with being a total nerd than chess, and I ran the club. I was president of the nerd club. As a matter of fact, I ran and organized chess camps for kids for two summers. I was like the nerd Dhali Lama. Anyways, I would love to get back into chess, however it does take time. Sleeping Angel?
2008-02-20 19:37:00 Kids move around a lot when they sleep. They sometimes fall out of their beds. They sometimes are sleeping on the opposite end of the bed in the middle of the night. Sometimes they are half on and half off. My toddler takes this a step further and gets out of her bed to sleep in other locales. Sometimes its the floor, sometimes its in her closet. Its like TJ Max, Never the same place twice. Anyways, I wanted to show everyone where she wound up this time. This time she fell asleep in her tiny, little toy chest. I like to call this Sleeping Angel , however it almost seems like she is sleeping vampire style all up that toy chest, so I will call this Sleeping Toddler Vampire.

Am I a Hero?
2008-02-19 21:45:00 My family has routines. We thrive in order. For instance, every day we all wake up at different times and get ready at different paces. There are activity days where one of our children will have an activity at either 5 o'clock or 6 o'clock or 3:30. Very easy to get into a flow around here. Things just kinda fall into place. At least once a week I have a sports activity that either starts at 7pm, 8pm or 9pm. Most nights my wife comes home between 6:00 and 6:45 but sometimes she comes home a little later. We have it down to a science. But with all these times and activities to worry about, when do the children get fed? Good question. I found out recently that there is actually an absolute breaking point or threshold of which you do not want to cross. You most likely don't want to wait until 9pm to feed your kids. If you do, make sure they get something fast to eat like crackers or stale bread. 10pm is pretty dicey. Kids act like an addict escaping a methadone ... More About: Hero
Fast Food For Complete Novices
2008-02-19 21:10:00 I am in transit with my running crew (kids) a lot of the time. nbsp; I am coming from one activity and heading out to another one, and without question we have used the modern day luxury of Fast Food our fair share. I cite Fast Food as not only a luxury but as a laxative; quickly in and out of the restaurant and your body. As a teacher to other man folk I believe it is my duty to inform you where the best food is to be attained. All my life I was a McDonald's man, basically until 12, then I realized other fast food eateries existed. You may have noticed all McDonald's these days have a computer screen installed in their respective drive thru lanes. This screen's sole purpose is to display what you have ordered thus insuring accuracy. This is flat out false advertising because they can type whatever they want onto that screen, but what comes out in your bag is always anyone's guess. I have, out of necessity, went to McDonald's recently and let me tell you, t... More About: Complete
How Toddlers Get Around
2008-02-19 17:05:00 Kids never cease to amaze me. I have been thinking about how kids get around a lot lately. I mean, I thought about it. As I watch my two year old everyday, I realize that she runs from place to place constantly. She climbs down her chair after eating breakfast and runs a full sprint into the family room to play or draw or whatever. Then, later, she will put down the crayon or toy or what-have-you and sprint a reckless-kid-almost-falling forward-sprint into the living room to harass our cat until he can't take it anymore and runs off. Next thing I notice is her running (again) towards the family room. She is always, always running. Actually, she isn't always running. There are times when she hops. Let's say she drops a toy in the middle of the floor and it rests in the direct line between her and her next destination. What choice does a world class toddler sprinter have in this situation? Hop of course. I am convinced that she really only knows how to move in... More About: Toddlers
Wonder Pets, Not That Annoying
2008-02-19 16:23:00 So, by now most of you stay at homers have seen or heard, as you planted your child in front of the TV, the Nick Jr. show called The Wonder Pets . At first glance one would think that this show would make you want to invent a harder way for changing channels, but I'd have to say, after seeing how my toddler gets a kick out of this show, that it definitely has staying power. Lets examine the key elements of a good kid show from a stay at home dad's perspective: It is engaging enough to have your child excited to watch it thus freeing you up momentarily It has an original format based on creativity instead of using some canned kids show formula based on statistics (ie Handy Mandy = Bob the Builder + Dora the Explorer) It has music that is soothing enough to nap to for both parents and children ( critical, most important feature ) Subconsciously teaches while making children happy It has original characters Catchy music that won't (key) drive you crazy when you sing it (... Why Kids Are Great Volume I
2008-02-18 13:18:00 I have spent much time pondering philosophic questions. Why are we here? Why am I here? What does that guy next door put in all those black trash bags? Pretty standard really. What about kids though, why are they here? I have been crossing that one off my list for a while now as I have come to find many uses for them. Kids may appear to be detrimental to any work load you have, but I have found that the exact reason that makes them difficult to utilize (lack of strength and size) actually makes them perfect for certain tasks.GREAT AT RETRIEVAL MISSIONSKids not only can easily get in and out of tight spaces, but they are also equipped with limbs much smaller then ours. I am not sure exactly how much pennies are worth, and I don't know where they come from, but the value is in watching the little ones work to get them back. Its like Easter everyday. Also, kids are easily bought off. I heard of this kid that mowed a neighbor's lawn for a twizzler and a cupcake. Real... More About: Great , Volume

2008-02-17 10:34:00 Lovely. In the process of switching my site over to a new comment management system that didn't conflict with my template I have found that spammers and spam bots have found it a welcoming dumping ground for smut and links to the same. I have recently installed a bot that should prevent further instances of this. I hate captchas and I really don't want my comment field to require this, but until I am confident that I have rid my site of this epidemic I will rely on both my bot and captcha system to keep the nastys away. 2008-02-15 23:44:00 I feel like a weight has been lifted off of me. I have turned the corner as a blogger of the 21st century. I have made my video clips both downloadable and subscribable (word? sp?). You can have your option of subscribing to the Joeprah video feed via my Podcast option in the left sidebar (other left people) or you can simply subscribe to the Joeprah Podcast in your iTunes and upload any new episodes I create directly to your iPod as they become available. With iTunes you will need to check for updates of the Podcast from time to time, or I think it will do this automatically for you each time you reopen iTunes. I have also progressed as a blogger and incorporated javascripting into my blog menu items to make them A) more dynamic, B) more sexier. You will notice on the left side bar a section entitled Joeprahs Feeds. Simply click on each menu item and they unfold revealing a clickable for you to use to subscribe to Joeprah in various ways.
