Tourist
2008-06-10 09:17:00
I am the ghost at your bedside hovering closely to hear your whispers I am the anchor that tethers your spirit to this world giving you plenty of line though not release. I am the voice that sounds in your aching head and lies to you for your own good So you will get well. I am the fretter select who clucks and tends a poor substitute but…a willing one. I am the city you left for love but remain a fan of its lights now returning to you as a weary and devoted tourist.

Pass the Ketchup and the Tidy Bowl
2008-06-09 09:19:00
Truth be told I have eaten a few snacks in the bathroom - epecially things like protein shakes or yoghurt, however, this takes things to a whole new level. You have to wonder how and why they came up with the concept, don’t you? I am second to none in my admiration for asian ingenuity but this really takes the toilet brush. It also makes me wonder what they use to clean these cute little soup bowls…do you think it’s lemon fresh Joy, or maybe Tidy Bowl ? Or maybe even those funny blue discs you drop into the tank and forget about until the water stops turning blue. And I love ice cream - what would the world be without it? Though I have to admit, I would never think of eating it out of a mini urinal. Though she looks pretty darn pleased about it. Do you suppose they put a little something extra in it? I suppose the upside is that you don’t have to leave your table to visit the rest room. And think of all the space they saved on that one. You know, my doggie...

Technical Difficulties?Damn It!
2008-06-09 04:59:00
Yikes, well, we tried to fix some other issues with the theme and it ate my blogroll - but not to worry, we have a search party looking for it. Hopefully, it turns up soon. Also, with the theme changes, in order to make a comment, you have to click on the little tab at the bottom right of the post which reads: Meta with a little downward pointing arrow. Just in case you couldn’t figure out where the comments were.

Burgers Don?t Make You Cry
2008-06-08 10:42:00
I almost cried when they forgot my burger The girl was mean and snippy Which didn’t help but that isn’t why I almost cried It was the one man who kindly asked “How are you doing?” It made me think of how I was doing- Not good would have been the correct answer Instead, I forced an ?appreciate your asking’ smile and turned away Let them think I almost cried over a stupid-ass burger Better that than share my pain Strangers don’t like that Make s them uncomfortable Don’t want to peek into the windows of your life Lest they see something that makes them reach out and connect Lest they turn their attention to an intersection not named ME I ate my burger moved to a different table letting them all think burgers can make people cry Leaving them with a story they could take home with them when they needed some small talk.

Sleep Deprived in Seattle
2008-06-03 04:19:00
Hi Folks, I left for Seattle Saturday morning and had a boring and  uneventful flight, except for the killer ear ache insighted upon approach to Seattle. Now, I remember why I don’t like to fly. Kelly’s brother, Suart, picked me up at the airport and and we went straight to the hospital from there. The good news was that she was no longer unconscious and she was moving from intensive care to acute care, which indicates improvement. The bad news was the heartache of seeing my friend so beaten and bruised and confused. I really couldn’t tell if she knew me in any sense of the word and though I felt I saw a spark in her eye and she gripped my hand very tightly - it is just as easy to believe that it was only reflex and no true recognition. The move from intensive care to that of a shared room in acute care, along with a myriad of visitors proved to be too much for her and she became over stimulated. Given the trauma and shock her body has been through, it takes very l...

Pain at the Pump?
2008-06-01 09:48:00
Okay, most of you know that I’m a capitalist at heart and believe in the free market. I do, however, make a qualified exception when it comes to the price of gas and heating oil. My buddy, PG, sent me this link and I highly recommend you check it out. They make a good point and if nothing else, give us some sort of forum to maybe have our voices heard. One of the nice features on the site is that it gives you the opportunity to vent. This is what I said to them: It costs over $60 to fill my tank and that’s an economy car. And of course, you have to forego, small luxuries if you need to get around. I live in California, so we have one of the highest costs for fuel in the nation and there is no way to get around the L.A. area without a car - the public transportation system is inadequate and walking or taking a bike is not an option when you work 20 miles from home. Though I am not in favor of regulation generally speaking, the utility companies are regulated because peopl...

Angry Renters Unite
2008-05-31 09:08:00
A couple weeks back, my chum sent me this link - for the Angry Renters in America. An excerpt from the site explains their beef: All we hear these days is whining from reckless home borrowers and their banks. But did you know that renters are 32 percent of American households? And that homes in foreclosure are less than 2 percent? So why is Congress rushing to bailout high-flying borrowers and their lenders with our tax dollars? Unfortunately, renters aren’t as good at politics as the small minority of homeowners (and their bankers) who are in trouble. We don’t have lobbyists in Washington, DC. We don’t get a tax deduction for our rent and we don’t get sweetheart government loans. Quite simply, we are just Angry Renters. And now it is our time to be heard: no government bailouts! I have to say, they do seem to have a point. I’m a renter myself and it’s bad enough that every cent I pay in tax dollars goes to something that I’m not real...
Posts of the Week & Some Other Stuff
2008-05-30 09:56:00
Hey Guys, Sorry I haven’t had much time to visit this week - between work and preparing to go to Seattle this weekend, I just flat ran out. And I happened to do a lot of stumbling today, so hopefully, you got some new lookie loos that way. I did however, get some cruising time in and wanted to give you a few posts to check out: Once again, Grit has come up with some very unique and whacky new approaches to terrorism. It’s a must read. I wandered into the side door of a new blog (for me anyway) and found this rather compelling post about casual sex and relationships. One of my favorite bloggers, who doesn’t just write poetry but takes amazing photographs has this post and it will brighten your day. Another lovely blogger on my blogroll and whom I adore has written what could be the definitive poem about authors’ god complexes. Then there is my chum Red, who is actually quite handy with a pen in the best sense and this quickie is a good ‘un. And I’m...

Why You Should Vote in the Presidential Election
2008-05-29 09:48:00
This election cycle has seen quite a bit of apathy among the electorate and really who can blame them? None of the candidates are exciting, interesting or even slightly different from the steady crop we’ve had over the last couple of decades. In fact, in some cases, there is quite a bit of anger and frustration on the part of the electorate over which candidates managed to get to the top slot(s) - and many suspect the ‘fix is in’ . They may be right. However, we are stuck with those who have been selected for us and I’m all for looking on the bright side and coming up with some reasons why we should all vote - and since I’m pretty sure that there are plenty of lists around for all the reasons we shouldn’t vote, this seemed like a good idea. Although many things seem like good ideas and fail miserably but that’s another story…. You should vote in the Presidential Election because: 1. Tuesday is typically an off day and there really isn&...

First Books
2008-05-28 09:50:00
I don’t know about you, but from the time I can remember, I always have had a book of one sort or another in my hands. I hated dolls and toys and only ever wanted books or clothes (yeah, I guess I was born 40 like Ma used to say). My books then were very special to me and had their own special places on the shelves above my bed. My books now are special too. I just love books, plain and simple. I just found out about this. I think it’s a wonderful thought and great idea. They have already distributed 55 million first books to low income families. You want to change the world? Then it’s this sort of thing that will do it. Books feed imagination, curiosity and stokes the thirst for knowledge - and that leads to some amazing things and helps to add to the growth of our fellow human beings. What better way could we help? Please check into it - if it grabs you, send them something - or find a way to get involved. WC

2008-05-27 19:36:00
I put on purple socks today which made me think of you I walked them out into the day and wished the sky to blue I bought a box of chocolates and ate them in your stead I called up God and placed my bets then uttered prayers in bed I forced myself to belly laugh and make it very loud and gathered lillies along the path to chase away your clouds I tried to do the many things that inform the world of you in deepest hope that angel’s wings will fly us back to true copyright 2008

New Day
2008-05-27 03:40:00
Two weeks ago, I really began to think seriously about self-hosting. Though the idea had come up many times, I’d always pushed it to the back of my mind and left it there to be considered for another day. Recent events in my personal life have made me realize that life is just too damn short and that some things just shouldn’t be put off. About three days ago, I just decided it was time and from the point of that decision to having a new blog was nothing short of magical. It was so fast it seemed almost instant. And so it was. Many thank you’s are in order and most especially go to my good, good friends Moe and Kelly who literally had this blog up in 24 hours. They are utter magicians and I am in awe of their generosity, love, caring and mad skilz. I simply couldn’t have done it without you guys. Had I tried to take this on myself it would probably be months before I had it all figured out and then weeks before I’d have the nerve to open the doors. Yet,...

A Day to Remember
2008-05-25 09:15:00
Memorial Day is that first big picnic and three day outting holiday of the year in the states. And I have many fond memories of the family gatherings at local parks, the smell of burgers and hot dogs on the grill - juicy watermelon dripping down my chin, mom’s macaroni salad and of course the waiting for nightfall so we could light our sprinklers. It’s all part and parcel of this holiday. Though, I would ask, that we all take a moment of silence to thank God for those who have spilled blood and given their lives so we can celebrate this holiday. And to say a prayer of thanks and Godspeed to all our troops worldwide - who carry on the tradition of standing the watch. It’s days like these that I wish I had the wherewithall to send a home made bbq to Iraq and Afghanistan - with vat’s of mom’s special macaroni salad on ice. Unfortunately, I haven’t so…I offer the recipe instead. I suppose it is possible that one or two of our troops might find t...

The Truth About Beauty
2008-05-24 09:28:00
A friend sent me this in an email, and though I’d read it before it hit home more this time around. It’s a poem by the timeless beauty, Audrey Hepburn. I really like how that lady thought. WC “For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.” Audrey Hepburn

Drum roll, please… this week’s hit parade… Once again, Curious C has an unusual post about one of her newfound hobbies. A new discovery of a blog and blogger - I call her Joan of Fun on my blogroll and she is a hoot. As evidence by this post. Your trip to the mall will never be the same. If you’ve never visited Alison at Silent Verses then you are missing out on some of the best prose on the internet. This poem really got me. Another new blog/blogger discovery. This has been quite the week already - my friend, another friend’s family member, still waiting to be paid for a job I did a month ago…gas is a thousand dollars a gallon…blah blah… So, what could make it even better? No internet. Yup…good ol’ Verizon went belly up about 2pm today. So, I sat and checked it all day long. Called Roomie at work to see if it was the network thingie he set up. Didn’t seem to be. When he got home, all his super-duper equipment proved that it was the provider. The bastids - they spend a bagillion dollars to get you wanting this stuff, making it an integral part of every aspect of your life and then they pull the plug, just because of some silly old 60 mile an hour winds. Jeez what a bunch of pansies! I don’t know about you, but I actually get a twitch when I can’t get internet access. And they say cigarettes are bad. I wonder if they’ve done any studies on second hand web surfing. Or thrice-remove...
The Last 24 Hours
2008-05-21 22:40:00
UPDATE: She is doing much better, her chest tube has been removed and she’s been taken off her sedative drip. She’s been upgraded from critical to serious and has been cleared for her next operation which will repair her broken pelvis. This is really miraculous when you consider it’s been less than 48 hours since the accident. The prayers are working, please keep them up and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Annie So, the last 24 hours have been hell. Lots of phone calls, lots of tears, lots of worry. Lots of waiting. She’s doing better - and that’s a good sign. But things are still so very much up in the air until she regains consciousness. Because of the incredible person that she is and how very much she is loved, she is surrounded by people doing everything they can to help. If love is a cure, then she will be cured no doubt. I thank all of you for your prayers and good wishes, I know they make a difference. I truly believe in the power of pray...

Please Pray for my Friend
2008-05-20 19:07:00
This morning I woke up to find an email in my inbox that sent me reeling. A very close friend of mine, Kelly, was in a very bad car accident yesterday afternoon. She is currently in the ICU and has brain damage. Some of you may know her as KellyToo, as she visited some of your blogs in the past. She has two young children who really need her and a great husband and family. She’s a wonderful mom, friend and person. She has a great laugh and is someone so full of life it is hard to imagine her not running around filling the air with laughter and fun. The details of what happened to her are still a bit sketchy, but it doesn’t sound good. I will likely being going up there, possibly today. I am waiting to hear back from her husband. I may not be around for a bit. But I ask you to please pray for my friend and her family. They need every prayer they can get. Annie
