It is all about Attitude
2007-09-13 18:29:00
To a lot many, work is not an opportunity to do good, but a necessary evil they would gladly give up if they won or inherited a fortune. It is just a means to a livelihood. A drudgery. Its meaning is the cheque at the end of the month and the value it has in terms of service to their community is 'couldn't care less'Their attitude is totally uncaring and ungracious. In establishments which demand courtsey from their employees, the behaviour is so artificial. "Can I be of assistance? Here you are. Will there be anything else? You're welcome" - no genuine attempt at pleasing, just an exercise in politeness and efficiency that follows a procedure and arouses a feeling of satisfied indifference as would a serving of plain noodles. They do no more than the minimum that is required of them to maintain their employment, and gladly do nothing provided they get paid all the same. Catch them missing a break! As the clock strik...

Thank You Ever so Much
2007-09-13 01:22:00
A very heartfelt thanks from my daughter and me to all who responded to my call for help with the project on EXPRESSIONISM.Especially,AR Karthick,Cindy,Vamsi and keerthy who actually took the trouble of directing us to some very useful links. The project has been completed and with inputs from you ,I am sure it will be appreciated by her teachers. And to all the others who were candid enough to admit they have no clue, JOIN THE GANG!Neither did I.But after having completed this project,if ever anyone needs to know what expressionism is,you know whom to contact!Just goes to show that all is not bad with the virtual world, whatever conclusion the British research team( refer Idlemind's post) may have arrived at! Let's show the Brits a thing or two.IBIBO still ROCKS! Thanks Guys!

Make Money off your Blog

I have been blogging for a while now.I would not call myself a pro blogger though!Still a novice. One of the things that has fascinated me is all the claims that certain  bloggers make about earning money from their blogs. If you enter "MAKE MONEY FROM BLOG" in Google ,you come across 229,000,000 entries! How about that?!?As a result,on an experimental basis I have joined several programs(Blog svertise,AW Surveys,Bux.to,Adbux and Adcash.org to name a few)But the one that has come through with its payments without any problem is Blogsvertise. Here, Advertisers want YOU to mention and talk about their websites products and services in your blogs and journals. As a result, advertisers get publicity. In exchange blogsvertise pays YOU in paypal per task/blog entry, for writing / talking about / mentioning their website in your blog.Give it a try!I've been paid $5 per entry.Let's see how the experiment goes.HAPPY EARNING!

IF
2007-09-10 01:46:00
Came across this poem while surfing the net.Like to share it with you all.(kind courtsey:Laurie Meade)Dedicated to all hard-working IBIBOANS!If before you have turned on the coffee, or got your kids fed, If you are the last one dressed and ready to leave the house, While others in the family get ready, your still moving a mouse. If you have more friends online, than you do in real life, And hubby refers to you as his cyber wife.If you cook dinner between web pages and downloads, And your brain is dreaming about java script codes. If your daughter tells her teacher moms a computeraholic, And you always push, "view source" to see how web pages tic,If you are still sitting with blood shot eyes in that chair, While the rest of the family is off having fun somewhere,If the dishes are piled high on the counter and sink, You know you should be doing them, you just got to hit one more link.If all of the above in life seem too true, Maybe you should rule your computer, instead of let...

The Champi
2007-09-09 01:54:00
Had gone to my barber today. If there is one thing I look forward to when I visit my barber ,it's the 'champi',the perfect stress buster - deeply relaxing and yet wonderfully invigorating. I just learnt that champi is the Hindi word for head massage, and it was from this, that the english word 'shampoo' was derived. Not surprisingly, champi is a popular treatment offered by barbers in India.Cham pi has traditionally been performed in India by mothers and grandmothers on their children, to encourage the growth of thick and lustrous hair. It's perfect for the tight achy shoulders created by a lot of computer work! The massage is performed seated in a chair and focuses on all the areas that classically collect tension in the upper body. Great for desk workers and busy mums! Amazingly soothing and nurturing, yet totally invigorating. So next time you visit your neighborhood barber, don't forget to ask him for a 'champi'.

Dreams
2007-09-08 01:17:00
What has become of your fondest dreams? How come our dreams remain just that?Dreams !Why are a lot of us  stuck in jobs we hate, held bound by the fear of the unknown. Why can't we dare to stand up and walk away? How come our biggest dreams don't come true? Every new day seems to take us farther away from our dream. Sometimes we get so caught up in the rat race; our dreams seem like a distant memory. Little by little we let our dreams die.I had always dreamed of making a home in the serene countryside, travelling the world with my wife and kids in between.Well,it has remained just that.A dream. In 1988,I shoved my dreams into a bottom drawer and proceeded to set up my practice after leaving the Army.My dreams have lain dormant for almost 20 years. I've been caught up in the rat race you see!Whichever route one takes to the land of their dreams, the starting point,I guess is waking up, and doing something about it.Ironic isn't it?You have to WA...

The Fighter
2007-09-07 01:12:00
I stared into those biggest of dark black eyes and felt the power of his fighting spirit, despite the pain and week long raging fever. Most of the time my heart was in my throat and my mind was awash with counter-productive thoughts like, "why him?" and "this isn't fair!"This wasn't helping him to be sure , but in spite, he not only survived the arduous ordeal, but he emerged the victor!I am talking about  a six month old patient of mine,  down with a serious infection of the lungs. This tiniest of fighters toughed out what few adults could have and not only amazed me and my staff , but I feel profoundly and positively impacted all of us.He is not a superhuman little being. He is simply a child, like any other, who knows no different than to fight the fight and win! Throughout his illness, this little bundle of joy never stopped smiling and gurgling.I was in a tailspin when I first saw this child. My stress level...

The Finest Things
2007-09-05 23:55:00
The finer things in life is a phrase we hear when  people talk about  things of high quality. In fact, much of that which propels people to pursue success, particularly financial success, is the desire to participate in the finer things in life. Alright, let's face it.Having a large bank balance is not without its advantages! There is no arguing with the beauty of a fine painting. Who doesn't love the smell and feel of leather furniture? Who doesn't enjoy driving a well-engineered car? Who doesn't dream of the softness and warmth of a Cashmere sweater? Who doesn't like a nice watch that can be passed on the your son or daughter someday? All of these are common symbols of the finer things in life, and indeed they are.But there is one possible  pitfall when we pursue the finer things in life.We often become so engrained, so focused in the pursuit, that we do not experience the finest things in life. You see, for the most part, the finer things in life cost money....

Who is an Expert
2007-09-05 03:18:00
When are we regarded as experts?  This is an unanswerable question because it is largely in the eye of the beholder. An expert  is someone widely recognized as a reliable source of technique or skill whose faculty for judging or deciding rightly, justly, or wisely is accorded authority and status by the public or their peers. An expert, more generally, is a person with extensive knowledge or ability in a particular area of study. Expert s are called in for advice on their respective subject, but they do not always agree on the particulars of a field of study. An expert can be, by virtue of training, education, profession, publication or experience, believed to have special knowledge of a subject beyond that of the average person, sufficient that others may officially (and legally) rely upon the individual's opinion. Historically, an expert was referred to as a sage. The individual was usually a profound philosopher distinguished for wisdom and sound judgment. This is what I ...

A sense of responsibilty.
2007-09-04 02:01:00
Now that IBIBO has considered some of us bloggers as Platinum material based on our blog posts,I suddenly have begun to feel a sense of responsibilty towards IBIBO..I feel we will have to set a certain standard for others to emulate.I am sure there are very good bloggers out there who have yet to be recognized. It is important to ask ourselves when we blog about a topic, do we offend anyone or not. Being a blogger, it is better to exercise self-censorship. Sometimes, this self-discipline will reduce a lot of unnecessary argument and conflict.Do you know why you want to blog? What are your compelling reasons for that? Without that, you will not able to blog long and very soon you will run out of topics to blog. Blog with passion .I began blogging as a reason to connect with people. And I can tell you that IBIBO has provided us with a wonderful platform to do just that!HAPPY BLOGGING AND JANAMASHTAMI!

Freedom!
2007-09-02 22:30:00
It was a sunny Sunday in May 2004 in Baga Beach, Goa The deep blue sky seemed to kiss the wavy waters as the gentle wind embraced the beach. After enjoying the beach for a while with my wife and kids, one by one, we ventured off to find a spot on the beach away from the water. I stood close to the water barely wetting my feet and totally mesmerized by God's awesome creation. The voices of the beach-goers gradually faded as the sounds of the wind, the waves, and the seagulls emerged. Suddenly, my attention was diverted as I noticed how my son and a friend of his were totally immersed in the moment. Challenging the sand that seemed to capture their feet with every enormous wave, they went from only getting wet from the legs down, to being totally drenched from head to toe. Forgetting about the hunger that occupied their every thought moments ago, they were simply enjoying the moment to be free -- to be free to be who they were.I thought about how countless of...

Meditation?
2007-09-01 23:55:00
I remember when I started trying to meditate. I would sit down, close my eyes, and try to be really, really calm (my definition of meditation at the time!). That was hard: my head would burst with ideas, thoughts, solutions, problems. I would become agitated, and stop  generally after five long minutes, if not less. What was I doing wrong? Why couldn't I hold it for longer? Then as time went by,I realised something. The idea behind meditation is not to sit on a chair, and close our eyes. Or to sit in  a lotus position, and watch the leaves change colors. Meditation , we could say, is an "altered state of consciousness". We do not see things as we normally do; we feel connected to something bigger than our everyday selves;  In other words, we are so immersed in ourselves that we can transcend our own limitations. Now, the question is: what do you need to feel that way (if so you wish)? For some people, it's gardening; for others, it's laying down comf...

What a farce!
2007-09-01 01:57:00
After spending six nights behind bars, Bollywood star Salman Khan on Friday walked out of the prison after the Rajasthan high court gave bail and suspended his five-year sentence awarded for killing an endangered deer nine years back. I was sitting in a coffee shop this evening when this BREAKING NEWS was flashed repeatedly on a TV installed on a wall in front of me.Pathetic, isn't it ?Prior to this there was some TV channel which just kept focussing on Salman's brother Sohail who was chatting away on his cell phone. He could've been talking to one of his bum chums for all the difference it made to the viewers! This went on for over thirty minutes. What a colossal waste of public time and money don't you think?Considering that TV channels charge some obscene amount for a 30 second commercial.

There is hardly a youngster from the 1940’s who hasn’t grown up watching a Gogia Pasha magic show. Pundit Nehru considered Gogia a personal friend and would always catch up with him when he visited Dehradun. Performing for almost half a decade, Gogia traveled to various cities holding private shows for the mighty and famous across the world – the Beatles, Pundit Nehru and Hitler. In December 1976, Gogia suffered from psoriasis of the liver. Since he was a grave diabetic, his body could not survive and he died. His legend however lives on in the hearts and minds of those who met him. I was shocked to see his house the other day.For a man who was considered a personal  friend of Pandit Nehru and a world renowned magician, this is all that remains. This is where Gogia Pasha lived.Isn't it ironic that one of his greatest tricks was called 'BHOOT MAHAL'(HAUNTED HOUSE-see poster above)?

Day Dreaming
2007-08-30 00:25:00
Back in the good old days of school, the teachers would often catch us for daydreaming in class and not paying attention. "Stop dreaming! Dreaming will get you nowhere," yelled the teacher. Is it really so? Does 'dreaming' really get you nowhere in life?  If you dream and you take massive action to achieve your dream, your dream could very well come true for you. However, if you dream and take no action, it remains just a powerless dream. Between dreaming and turning it into a reality however, there is a lot of hard work, perseverance and a determination to succeed. You have so many examples of people  succeeding far beyond their expectations and it all began with a dream.Look at Dhirubhai Ambani or Narayan Murthy.I'm sure these guys must've been powerful daydreamers.Dreams have proven to be an effective tool for resolving problems such as overeating, smoking, low self confidence, learning difficulties and poverty consciousness.  Think for a mo...

25 Signs
2007-08-29 01:33:00
Too tired right now to write an 'original'.Came across this list, courtsey Beatrice Adams.Applies to me anyway!25 Signs That Computers and the Internet Rule Your LifeYou can't remember the last time you wrote an entire paragraph using a pen and paper. You consider Internet a basic utility. Between your Internet and your TV, you would rather lose your TV. Between your Internet and your phoneline, you would rather lose your phoneline. The Internet IS your phoneline. You carry a flash drive in your purse or pocket. You carry a laptop with you wherever you go-or you wish you could. You have a callous on your right wrist, where you rest your hand when you use your mouse. Your “diary” is not protected with a lock and key, but with a username and password - and it is open to be read by anybody in the world. You've joined an online forum and regularly post messages on it. You are - or have been - a member of a Yahoo group. You've watched 1,500 orange-clad prisoners...
Feelings
2007-08-28 01:34:00
My childhood was spent in a small town, before the present emotionalice age set in.It was perfectly normal and natural to show emotion then. When my brothers and I got back from  school, our mother used to hug uslovingly even in front of visitors. My father got such a warm send-off frommom every morning you would've thought he was going off to the wars! When we went to a film with a sad ending,it was normal to hear peopleblowing their noses. There were times when the whole family came out ofthe cinema hall with tears in their eyes.We were not very good at hiding our feelings-and we didn't try very hard.It was easy to tell when someone fell in love,or had done something he was ashamed of or worried about. If it didn't show on the face,he would tell you.FEELINGS is what kept us together. Why then in today's world do we deny our feelings. Is it because it is considered 'ultra-cool' to hide them?I see people around me with deadpan faces, emotionless going about their daily chores like ...

Some Things I've Noticed Along the Way So Far
2007-08-27 01:46:00
Of the many things we tend to forget about in our fast paced culture, two of the most important are how to play and how to rest.Even if the grass is greener on the other side it's still has to be mowed.Like most men, one of my biggest emotional needs in marriage is to be and feel appreciated. It took me a long time, almost too long, to figure out that in order to be appreciated, I had to do a whole lot more than just show up.It's much easier to raise a child than to repair an adult. Can someone please explain to me what could be so important as to be worth risking your own life and the lives of others by running straight through the red light at a busy intersection? How is it that couples can be involved in a nasty loud heated argument and when the phone rings they stop and answer it with a pleasant hello? We seem to be more willing to talk pleasantly and kindly to an unknown caller than to our spouses. In the wake of all the recent school violence, those asking "how could ...
