Favorite Quotations... What Do They Say About Us?
2007-08-25 02:02:00 npcomments-->Have you stopped to think what your favorite quotes are saying about you and your life experiences? How you relate to them? How they relate to you?Today... I decided to take one of my favorite quotes and see how it applies to me. You may want to do the same thing. This quote by Louis L'Amour is one of my favorites..."Up to a point a man's life is shaped by environment, heredity, and movements and changes in the world about him. Then there comes a time when it lies within his grasp to shape the clay of his life into the sort of thing he wishes to be. Only the weak blame their parents, their race, their times, lack of good fortune, or the quirks of fate. Everyone has it within his power to say, "This I am today; that I will be tomorrow." -Louis L'AmourI can look back and see how my life was shaped by early environment, heredity and changes in the world around me.My life was shaped by my parents, friends, schools, experiences, injuries, where I lived, moves... Whatever Happened to Limericks?
2007-08-24 04:20:00 Whatever happened to limericks.Remember them?Way back when I was in college,my friends and I would gather at the college canteen and share our collection of limericks. For the uninitiated, a limerick is a five-line poem written with one couplet and one triplet. If a couplet is a two-line rhymed poem, then a triplet would be a three-line rhymed poem. The rhyme pattern is a a b b a with lines 1, 2 and 5 containing 3 beats and rhyming, and lines 3 and 4 having two beats and rhyming. Some people say that the limerick was invented by soldiers returning from France to the Irish town of Limerick in the 1700's.Got all that?Hehe .In short, Limericks are meant to be funny. They often contain hyperbole, onomatopoeia, idioms, puns, and other figurative devices. The last line of a good limerick contains the PUNCH LINE or "heart of the joke." As you work with limericks, remember to have pun, I mean FUN!When limerick writers convene, Their reason for making the scene, Is... More About: Erick , Pene
How I got my Zing back!
2007-08-23 01:41:00 Sometimes life becomes so routine, we don't have to think about a thing we're doing throughout the day. We're programmed to run on automatic. When routine sets in, particularly in relationships, we can't always see the impact it has until we throw a new ingredient into the mix. This week, I ventured outside of my regular routine, and performed a very unexpected act of kindness. The results were terrific!Picture it, Monsoon 2007. It's Wednesday morning, it is raining, there is a nip in the air and neither my wife nor I want to get out of our toasty warm bed to get ready for work.We go through the same exercise every morning. We both wait for the other one to get up first to turn on the light, then she heads to the washroom to get ready and I go into my study to do yoga for half an hour. This morning, however, neither of us would budge. She didn't want to get up, shower, make breakfast and prepare lunches, and I didn't want to do yoga, go throu... More About: Back
Wisdom
2007-08-22 18:41:00 Wisdom eludes me. The more I learn, the less I think I know. Maybe it's because when I learn something new I realize how much more there is to know. And by that I mean, how much we can know, not how much we must know. It's perpetual. I strive to learn more, but sometimes I feel I don't know enough.Am I making sense here? More About: Wisdom

A Gentle Reminder
2007-08-20 23:24:00 The other day,I had written a post about a shabbily dressed man and his three-leggeddog whom I had encountered at a traffic light.I had parted with ten bucks much to thedismay of my fellow passengers!Their chidings continued for the next kilometer or so.The pace of life and work has increased a lot and we don't give as much thought as we could to the circumstances of other people's lives. Sometimes, we're so caught up in our own struggle that we don't think we can even afford the time to "give" our time, suggestions, talents, to others. And yet, if we do, we are rewarded. We are often times, throughout our lives, able to experience richness, synchronicity, and reward through small acts of generosity. This isn't even about money, although sometimes the rewards will impact our financial status as well. And yet, we fail too often when we are so self-absorbed or consumed by our own situation thinking we'd give up too much by helping. So, this is just a gentle reminde... Success
2007-08-19 01:42:00 So much has been written about success that one often gets confused about what success is all about. Success is such a personal thing that it may mean different things to different people. Yet we need to have a simple definition which should apply to all successful people and situations. The ultimate purpose of being successful is to take pride in one's achievements and be happy; and I think one of the best description has been put forward by Ralph Waldo Emerson."To laugh often and much;To win the respect of intelligent peopleand the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest criticsand endure the betrayal of false friendsTo appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether bya healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; This is to have succeeded."Ralph Waldo Emerson
Consulting your soul
2007-08-19 00:56:00 npcomments--> Recently,as I approached a traffic light,I saw a man standing in shabby clothes with a three-legged dog by his side. As I waited for the light to change I looked at this scene with compassion and felt an urge to contribute something. The people in my car commented that he was a strong young man, there were plenty of employment opportunities, and why should anyone give to people who are capable of working. They indicated a kind of mild contempt for this man soliciting funds whom they felt "should" be working. My thoughts were on him and the fact that he cared for and fed this crippled dog. I rolled down the window and gave him ten rupees for which he expressed enormous gratitude. As the companions in my car semi-scolded me for being a sucker and for enabling him to continue to be a beggar I thought of some words of Mother Teresa. "You see, in the final analysis, it is all between you and God, it was never between you and th... More About: Consulting , Soul , Cons
Life on Auto Pilot
2007-08-18 01:39:00 It was a hot summer day in New Delhi when I boarded a Jet Airways flight to Bangalore, I promptly located my window seat, with no doubts that the pilots would safely take me to my destination. Suddenly, as I sat gazing out of the window waiting for take-off, certain questions came to my mind. I wondered, "Who are these pilots that I wholeheartedly entrust with my life?" I wondered about my surety of knowing that they would, or could take me to my destination. I also pondered on "Why it is that I -- or we as individuals, trustingly and unwaveringly allow others to continuously pilot our lives without questions or reservations?" We permit others to pilot our lives while we unquestionably find our seat near the window - just watching - watching our lives quickly pass by. We lack faith in ourselves, because too often, we allow others such as bosses, friends, family and even enemies, to navi... More About: Life , Auto , Pilot
It's My Life
2007-08-16 19:44:00 What am I supposed to do with my life? Shouldn't I be doing something.l...more?I've lost count of the number of times my friends and I have debated this question. More often then not, the discussion gets bogged down between the "idealists", who are sure anything is possible if you just believe, and the "realists" who claim that between taxes, child-rearing and work, there simply isn't time for belief in the promise that you can end up living the life of your dreams.Sometimes I can't help but feel that most of us are going about this issue the wrong way.Instead of trying to figure out the eternal (and unanswerable) question of, "What should I do with my life," why can't we consider just living life, and living it well? Is there anything wrong with simply picking up a comfortable mix of jobs, hobbies, causes, stuff that you really want to do and enjoy doing, and then doing them to the best of your ability with no i... Wonders of the World
2007-08-16 00:07:00 It was way past 10:00 pm when I came home from a grueling day at the clinic. The wind was rustling about overhead as I paced through the door of our home. I moved towards the nearest couch and plumped myself to rest. Defeat and exhaustion filled my frame as I laid back against the soft cushions. But then I remembered I had not answered my mail and replied to my fellow bloggers.. Galvanized, I scrambled off my feet and immediately headed towards the personal computer situated in my bedroom.Just then, my son dashed out of his room and came straight at me. He was holding a pen on his right hand and a piece of paper on the other."Dad, can you help me with my assignment? It's about the seven wonders of the world," he blurted out while staring at the paper in his grasp. My son's words didn't seem to filter through my mind at first. My attention was so riveted at the computer screen that he had to nudge me and pull the tip of my sleeve just to get... More About: World , Wonders , The World , Wonders of the World

The Huddle
2007-08-12 19:47:00 Let's forget about the internet for a while.Just think about it;first there were our ancestors, the apes hunting in packs. Then came fire and our ancestors gathered around it in a huddle, not only for warmth but for a friendly chat and exchange of ideas.Things changed. Now we hug each other at sports events and console each other when our team loses.Like minded people continually find new ways to form cuddly, warm groups. In college, the jocks sit together. The 'geeks' form a group of their own.The nerds challenge each other to quizzes. The 'hep' crowd preens itself while the others look on with mouths open. You get the picture....Then came the PC and the internet and suddenly we could be in touch with people from anywhere in the world. There's e-mail,chatting,forums,communities and of course BLOGGING.Instant communication not just with people we know but a chance to make friends with people anywhere in the world. The need to continue to huddle in groups of like-minded people has t...

FOUR LETTER WORDS
2007-08-11 18:15:00 ... A young couple got married and left on their honeymoon. When they got back, the bride immediately called her mother. Her mother asked, "How was the honeymoon?""Oh, mama," she replied, "the honeymoon was wonderful! So romantic..."Suddenly she burst out crying. "But, mama, as soon as we returned Sam started using the most horrible language...things I'd never heard before! I mean, all these awful 4 letter words! You've got to come get me and take me home.... Please mama!""Sarah, Sarah," her mother said, "calm down! Tell me, what could be so awful? What 4-letter words?""Please don't make me tell you, mama," wept the daughter, "I'm so embarrassed they're just too awful! Come get me, please!""Darling, baby, you must tell me what has you so upset.... Tell your mother these horrible 4-letter words!"Still sobbing, the bride said, "Oh, mama...words like DUST, WASH, IRON, COOK...!"... More About: Words , Letter

Hanging out
2007-08-10 02:00:00 What is the difference between dating and hanging out?I guess perhaps age has slowed my mind up somewhat.Even though I'm not that old.To me, they seem similar. I should think that you would want to hang out with those you would be interested in dating.Isn't that right? You should be dating, "hanging out", with those you would like to consider a serious relationship with.It is in the hanging out with each other that you get to know each other. You get to be around each other with your hair let down. You discover their likes, their dislikes, their habits, idiosyncrasies, hopes, goals, and dreams.Maybe it would be more correct to want to "hang out" with the one you want to spend the rest of your life with! What say you ?
Laugh!
2007-08-09 18:33:00 It's a sad fact that, as children, we laughed 300 - 400 times a day, but now, as adults, we are lucky if we laugh 12 times a day. While in the 1930's it was estimated that people laughed approximately 16 - 18 minutes daily, it is estimated that now we are doing well if we manage to laugh for 6 minutes every day. So,what happened to us ?Why do so many of us go through each day with'terminal seriousness'?Don't you think maintaining our sense of humour and being able to laugh at the challenges that face us daily, will help us to be happier people at the end of each day? What, easier said than done? You are darn right! But what the heck,I'm going to give it a try.If not 300-400 times at least 30 minutes daily for starters.Any takers?Come join me while I have a hearty laugh.Hahahahaha........! On A Happy Note!
2007-08-09 01:27:00 Here's a multiple choice question for you. Who is more likely to be happy?(a) Someone who lays awake for an hour or so at night, replaying the day in their mind and agonising over what could have been, and what should have been."If only I'd said this...""How dare they do that...""Next time...""If only..."or(b) The person who spends five minutes before bed feeling gratitude for all the good in their lives, and focusing on the expectation of more to come tomorrow. It's fairly obvious, isn't it? (I hope you said "b"!)How about this one:(a) The person who drives to work shouting obscenities at any driver who does not follow their grand vision of how the trip should proceed, or(b) The person who takes delight in the journey- enjoying the breeze through the window, and the sounds of the city, or their favourite radio station. It looks like "b" is the winner again.Hmm! Another one bites the dust
2007-08-07 01:53:00 A truck driver frequently traveled through a small town where there was a courthouse at the side of the road. Of course, there were always lawyers walking along the road. The truck driver made it a practice to hit any pedestrian lawyers with his truck as he sped by.One day, he spotted a priest walking along the road and stopped to give him a ride. A little further along, as he approached the town, he spotted a lawyer walking along the side of the road.Automatically, he veered his truck towards the lawyer, but...then he remembered his passenger. He swerved back to the center, but he heard a "whump" and in the rear view mirror he spotted the lawyer rolling across the field. He turned to the priest and said, "Father, I'm sure that I missed that lawyer."And the priest replied, "That's OK, my son, I got him with the door." They get everywhere!
2007-08-07 01:51:00 A father walks into the market followed by his ten-year-old son. The kid is spinning a 25 cent piece in the air and catching it between his teeth. As they walk through the market someone bumps into the boy at just the wrong moment and the coin goes straight into his mouth and lodges in his throat. He immediately starts choking and going blue in the face and his Dad starts panicking, shouting and screaming for help.A middle-aged, fairly unnoticeable man in a gray suit is sitting at a coffee bar in the market reading his newspaper and sipping a cup of coffee. At the sound of the commotion he looks up, puts his coffee cup down on the saucer, neatly folds his newspaper and places it on the counter. He gets up from his seat and makes his unhurried way across the market. Reaching the boy (who is still standing, but only just) the man carefully takes hold of the kid's gonads and squeezes gently but firmly. After a few seconds the boy convulses violently and coughs up the quarter, whi...
