How Low Can They Go?
2007-07-14 17:34:00
Link: The Raw Story | Poll: Congress' approval rating even lower than President's. Contrary to popular political propaganda-speak, I believe that polls do matter.  If conducted properly, polls can give us a fairly accurate though brief snapshot of the mood of the masses at any given moment. The Iraq occupation is the dominant issue of the moment, and those elected have failed to fulfill their promise to work towards military withdrawal.  The Democrats had their opportunity and failed miserably.  Their majority in the Senate is marginal so their power is axiomatic.  However, this doesn't mean that their hands are tied. The Democrats had the perfect opportunity to stop the Iraq occupation by voting down the last war funding bill .  Certainly they had far too few votes to pass a different bill without the President.  However, they do have enough votes to send the same bill right back through, time and time again, stalemating the whole process.  ...
Gates Goes Gay

Link: Seattlest: Gates Invests in Gay.com. I had no idea the PlanetOut folks were loosing money, what with gay.com charging membership fees to look at nudie profile pictures and such.  Enter the golden angel.  Bill Gates is supporting the Washington gay scene by investing 26 million in Planet Out.  I suppose that puts us in league with starving African children and hurricane victims.  Yo go Bill.

Climbing Mountains & Picking Friends
2007-07-04 18:01:00
Eric and I have finished our final move to Asheville and settled in to our little apartment as a full time abode.  It's small, but even with my little brother staying over to help with the move it wasn't too bad.  Our lease commitment is only through August, so we'll reassess at that time.  So, one chapter ends in our little book of life and another begins.  The change will be good for us. Yesterday E and I had three appointments for new work accounts and afterward drove up to Black Mountain to visit with our friends Ricky & Melinda.  They recently built a timber frame home at the top of a ridge and this was our first chance to see it.  What an incredible house - and the view of Little Pisgah is fantastic.  This is their dream home and they've put their hearts and souls into it.  They're amateur musicians and Ricky has turned me on to a class that I'm hoping to start this Fall.  While packing up the house in Georgia, I found so...

Goofin' Off With Doggie Chews & Upcoming posts
2007-06-27 18:48:00
Ok, I admit it, we may be a little punch drunk - what with finishing up work in Atlanta this week, packing and coordinating everything for our final move. I did, however, think this was funny.  Last night Eric was giving the dogs rawhide chews as a treat (they love the things) and this one came out of the bag looking like Something from Scream  III.  We couldn't resist snapping a photo. (click to enlarge) I'm not going to have the time to do much blogging until Sunday, but I did want to mention that I have a couple of really interesting things to post when I have a decent hour to sit down with my laptop and compile everything.  The most intriguing thing I want to share is a death bed testimonial by deceased CIA spy-master E Howard Hunt (of Watergate infamy) about his involvement with the JFK assassination.  His son Saint, did an interview in Rolling Stone a few weeks ago and subsequently appeared on my favorite radio show where he debuted the audio from ...

Hot Coffee, A Dirty Job & U-Hauling to The Hatch
2007-06-22 18:11:00
Finally, I have a minute to post a little something. I just poured myself a cup of cheap, hot coffee.  That's all that's left in the cupboard.  This moving thing is a real bitch with claws - not only does she make your back sore, but she digs her claws into your brain - making you worry about things that you'd never even think of on an average day. Eric and I have been working out the remainder of our contracts, all ending next Thursday.  Between work, packing and everyday life stuff, I haven't had much breathing room, much less bloggable hours.  I feel like a soccer Mom.  Or at least, I'm guessing that soccer Mom's feel this harried  -  although they're never portrayed that way in mini van commercials - just political advertisements for presidential elections.  They're an important voting block, ya know.  In the mini van commercials they're always smiling brightly with great hair, corralling the herd of kids into the back seat ...

Moving Roots, Hanging Bottles
2007-06-17 18:13:00
Eric and I love house plants.  We have a lot of them, so it's been a challenge deciding who moves with us to Asheville and who finds a new home.  So far, we managed to get all of our plants comfortably into the new apartment.  I think with a little creative arranging, we'll be able to find a spot for all but two small, braided ficus trees.  Our largest ficus tree made it's way North in the U-Haul trailer and weathered the horrible hail storm Friday on I-85 (that's another post entirely) and the jostling drive up the mountain.  I lugged the beast up the stairs and Eric placed it by the front windows.  She skims the ceiling a tad, but it's going to be a good ficus environment.  I'm scoping out corners and spots for the other smaller plants still languishing in Georgia. There's a store in Asheville called The Natural Home (Hi Grace!).  As one might imagine, they sell household items that are both interesting and earth friendly.  I...

Commiting Suicide
2007-06-13 19:17:00
Yesterday I committed suicide.  Not actual life ending suicide, but professional suicide.  I gave all of our clients notice that we'd wrapping things up in Atlanta, closing the business and returning to the land of the sky at month's end.  It's a little frightening to close a perfectly good, profitable business.  That's why it made me think of suicide.  I know, it's no big deal, just business - but it still makes one think.  It made me think of the first time that I met each and every one of those clients.  I thought about all of the moves and changes that they have made over the years, all of the staff turnover.  All in all, Eric and I have had the most stable life for the past six years of anyone that I know, both in Atlanta and in Asheville.  The hardest person to tell was our friend Keith.  But, he's a friend and will remain a friend so it's not the end of the world.  The most outstanding feeling that I got while co...
