Self Promotion Kina & the Digg Song
2007-12-25 06:43:00 Self promotion on the net is an art which Kina Grannis seemed to have learnt quite well.Kina Grannis is a contestant for Myspace's Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contestwhere a band gets a chance to create a video for the Superbowl. In her aim to get votes she created a website and a blog and promised two weeks of posting a song daily as long as people vote for her on Myspace. But the biggest coup she did was creating a song just for Digg users and the song got dugg and became number 1 on the digg's list which meant that her video generated more than 100,000 views cool idea for marketing oneself on the net the only factor was Digg and Myspace have a completely different user base so the overlap is likely to be small. For the uninitiated Digg is a community-based popularity website with an emphasis on technology and science articles. News stories and websites are submitted by users, and then promoted to the front page through a user-based ranking system .So enjoy the Digg Song More About: Promotion
Mentos Friendsline Social community Marketing
2007-12-24 07:37:00 Mentos is back and this time it aims to build a community around its brand. In the past it had built a cool marketing minisite Mentos Helpline which was wacky and funny and dealt with the problems of youth in a call center setting. Now it aims to develop a hangout for people looking for humour and intends to associate it with its brand. Its Mentos friendsline seems to be targeted initially at bloggers and its ads can be seen all over on Technorati. This is quite an interesting medium since they need to develop good content to be able to attract the readers. However I am skeptical about the ability of a brand based website to attract hardcore bloggers who are not likely to leave their platform they would be better off targeting casual users. Orkut hit by yet another Worm
2007-12-20 10:31:00 Orkut might be no.1 on Google 's most searched lists but is one of the most insecure social networks around this was proved by the latest worm attack on Orkut. Some Orkut users received an e-mail telling them they had been sent a new scrapbook entry -- a type of Orkut message -- on their profile from another Orkut user. They only had to view their profile to become infected by the worm, which added them to an Orkut group, "Infectados pelo Vírus do Orkut,".The name of the group, in Portuguese, roughly translates to "infected by the Orkut virus."The relatively harmless worm appears to use JavaScript and Flash code to create new scrapbook entries on profiles with a New Year's message in Portuguese before propagating to the victim's friends. The attack was apparently without malicious intent and done just to highlight the security problems with such networking sites more than 655,000 users were affected but it seems to have been controlled. Google has not officially responded on this and... More About: Worm , Orkut

Pepsi's Unique Marketing Strategy
2007-12-11 09:46:00 Pepsi is preparing a year-long marketing campaign in the United States in which up to a billion digital music tracks will be given away which could seriously hurt Apple . Based on the prices charged by Apple, the largest online music retailer, the offer could be worth up to $1 billion (£490 million). Crucially, the drinks group is believed to be teaming up with Amazon.com, the online retailer vying with Apple?s iTunes music store, to distribute the giveaway tracks. It is also thought that the music will be distributed free of the digital rights management (DRM) technology that limits where legitimately downloaded tracks can be played. PepsiCo is planning to place tokens on five billion drink containers. Consumers will have to collect five tokens to qualify for free tracks. In theory, the campaign could flood the market with $1 billion of free music (Apple charges 99 cents per DRM-free track), but redemption rates on these types of offers are usually low, at about 2 per cent.mixing Pe...
