New Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) trailer, game set for February 2008
2007-09-12 12:15:00
At Microsoft’s Pre-Tokyo Game Show (http://tgs.cesa.or.jp/english) press conference in Japan, one point they tried to get across to the Japanese audience was their commitment to the Japanese RPG on Xbox 360. One way they did this was by showing off more games by respected developer Hironobu Sakaguchi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hironobu_Sa kaguchi), the creator of Final Fantasy who just recently shipped Blue Dragon and was on-hand to show off his next RPG masterpiece, Lost Odyssey, a game I’m looking forward to a lot more than I was Blue Dragon (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/b/bluedr agonxbox360/). Lost Odyseey is 95% finished and will be released on December 6th in Japan, January 2008 throughout the rest of Asia, and February 2008 in the US and Europe. Sakaguchi demonstrated the game by showing a playable demo, where the active battle system was shown off, in addition to glimpses of the game’s spell-casting and cut-scenes. He even lost a battle while playing! Ch...

The Orange Box via Steam (http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php? area=package&SubId=469) before the October 10 release, you get exclusive access to the Team Fortress 2 Beta on September 17 and you also save 10% off the regular price. As a special bonus, those who pre-purchase The Orange Box via Steam will also receive a copy of Peggle Extreme, which I’m sure is exactly what all the FPS buffs were waiting for. To bring gamers up to date with the Half-Life 2 universe, The Orange Box also includes Half-Life 2, the best-selling and highest-rated action game series of all time, and the episodic debut Half-Life 2: Episode One. Customers who already own these titles will have the ability to conveniently “gift” them to a friend upon official release of The Orange Box. Also included are the new games Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. Starting Monday, September 17, those who pre-purchased The Orange Box via Steam can download and activate the beta ...

Back from Pennsylvania
2007-09-11 22:35:00
I was out of town this weekend for my brother’s wedding. All went well and he’s now a happily married man. It ended up as a big family reunion, with the added bonus of cool, new relatives from the bride’s side of the family. I’m trying to catch up, but apologies for not posting for a little while. I’ve also got 1-2 projects that I’m chugging on (more logistical than directly webspam), so expect lighter-than-average posting this month.

A Half Dozen Viral Campaign Launching Tactics to Try When Digg's Homepage R
2007-09-11 14:10:00
Posted by randfish (http://www.seomoz.org/users/view/63)I find myself in Montreal, Quebec this week, spending time with my old friend, Guillaume Bouchard of NVI (http://www.nvisolutions.com) and some new friends frmo an organization called Alliance numériQC (http://www.numeriqc.ca/) (French only, sorry Anglophones). Guillaume and I got to chatting over dinner about the new version of Digg and the more prominent version of the social linkbait marketer's worst enemy, the bury button: You can see that the bury button now appears just below every story, as opposed to the old layout where you could select it from a list of items, including OK this is lame (though that tag never made much sense to me). The message I get from this is that Digg's editors are hoping that more people will bury more material - perhaps they feel that the quantity of stories is too high, or they'd like for more content that the young, geek-centric, anti-marketing crowd that participates heavily ...

One Simple Blogging Rule to Keep You Out of Trouble
2007-09-08 10:06:00
Blogging is great for reaching a wide audience. The larger the audience, though, the more likely you’ll draw the wrong kind of attention. Flame wars, lawsuits, bad PR, angry real-life relations… your blog can get you into all sorts of trouble. Even worse, the more popular your blog becomes, the more often you’ll have to deal with this sort of negative attention. Thankfully, there’s one hard and fast rule you can use to keep your blog from getting you into needless trouble: Never post anything you wouldn’t say in person. It may seem simple, but it works in many different situations. Just imagine that the person or people to whom your post would be particularly relevant are going to see it. Complaining about your job? Assume your supervisor and coworkers are going to read it. Reviewing a local diner? Assume it will be read by the owner. Criticizing a fellow blogger? Assume he or she will catch wind of it. What’s the point of it all? The ...

Use Images with a White Background
2007-09-07 09:07:00
We all know that images have many benefits for blogs. They improve the overall look and entice an otherwise reluctant visitor to explore your posts. Integrating images smoothly into a blog post, however, is not such a simple task. One little trick that I learned along the way is to use images with a white background. They integrate perfectly with any blog layout, merging with the content. For sure you can still use images that do not have a white background, but in order to blend them with the content you will need to add some CSS styling. FreelanceSwitch (http://www.freelanceswitch.com) is a good example. If you do not have time to create a unique CSS style for your images, though, stick with the images that come with a white background and you will be fine. In order to illustrate my point I added two dog pictures in this post. The difference on how smoothly they integrate with the rest of the content is pretty clear, isn’t it? Most stock photography websites (e.g., iStock...
