2009-02-16 02:13:00 While there are many places one can download YouTube videos for free, the last place I thought I would ever see one would be on Orkut --especially since Google has started to crack down on third party sites.Simply called YouTube Video Download er, this app allows you to download any YouTube video, although the format will be in .flv format (which you can convert to something a little bit friendlier with the help of Convert Direct).Now that YouTube has (finally) allowed users to download videos (in high quality too!), I would not be surprised to see this app pulled, although I doubt that Google's lawyers will be able to go after them as the creators posted a legal disclaimer telling you not to download YouTube videos.(YouTube Video Downloader) Here I would like to warn that NEVER DOWNLOAD ANY VIDEOS FROM YOUTUBE. Orkut Premium Themes (Good Idea Or Great Idea?)
2009-02-09 14:30:00 A long, long time ago in a place not too far away (at least online), Google introduced Orkut holiday themes to the masses.Sometimes called Orkut templates or Orkut skins, these themes became so popular they inspired hackers/artists to design hundreds of their own with a little help from GreaseMonkey and Firefox. (note: there is even an Orkut app for Orkut themes as well).While its good to see both the official Orkut themes and hacked themes appear online (as staring at the baby blue background gets old after awhile), neither of them gives users the freedom to publicly customize their profiles to their tastes (as the hacked themes are only visible to you within Firefox).Since Google is unlikely to give users the complete freedom to change their Orkut profiles (despite the fact that there is a growing demand for customized Orkut themes), they may want to consider creating an Orkut Theme market where web designers/hackers can apply (and create) free and premium themes for users everywh... Meebo Plus Orkut Equals Group Community Chats?

Dear Google, We Need Orkut Categories For Orkut Apps!

Review: Google Talk In Orkut (What's Good, And What's Missing)

2008-11-10 20:06:00 After relaunching a shiny new version of Orkut last year, Google has done an incredible job of rolling out features across the orkutsphere (not to mention allowing third party access as well).Although Google has done an excellent job in the realm of scrapbooks, Orkut albums and friend updates (note: I'm still waiting on my Twitter/Jaiku hookup for Orkut status), they have yet to realize the full potential of their Orkut forums by not providing a way for users to subscribe to their favorite communities (a common mistake I am seeing across many social networks--especially the big ones).While geeks may be able to get around this via Orkut Feeds (note: see the review over here), non-geeks may not be as motivated to engage their friends, foes and family on an Orkut community forum (as it is hard for you to know when someone responds back to you).Instead of outsourcing subscriptions to the realm of geeks, Google should instead hook up with FeedBurner (which Google bought last year)... Orkut "Threaded Scrapbooks" (What I Love And What I Hate)

Orkut Enhances Search (Plus Google AdSense Now Included)

Google (Finally) Launches Orkut iPhone Web App

2008-05-01 18:40:00 (Hat Tip: Orkut Plus)Google has enabled Orkut forum owners to add additional owners to the forums, giving users more control over their communities.Aside from having all of the powers of a moderator, co-owners can un-delete a forum in case the previous owner no longer desires it, as well as assume ownership of the forum if a community has been hacked.Forum owners can add co-owners to their forums by clicking on the "add co-owner" link which they can find on their community profile (above the "add moderator" link)......then typing in the name of a member of the forum that they want to add......then hit the "search members" button after selecting the person. After that, Orkut should bring you to a new page in which you can then grant that individual co-owner status by hitting the "grant co-owner privileges" button below.You can add up to two co-owners to each forum, which a lot lower than the 10 moderator limit set by Google.
