How To: Adding an Email This Button to Your Blog
2008-05-28 11:00:00 In the past we’ve talked about how to add a print button to your WordPress theme. Today I wanted to give you the javascript code you need to create an Email This button on your WordPress blog. Before getting to the code, I wanted to first say that this code is designed to allow readers to click on the button and have it open up their default email software and create a subject and link that point to the post the reader is currently visiting. This code is not designed to allow readers to contact the blog author. If you are wanting your readers to be able to contact you, I recommend you use one of the many great contact form WordPress plugins available. You should never embed your email address into some HTML code because it will be picked up by spam bots. Contact forms prevent spammers from finding your email address. Of course, most people’s celebration is limited to Happy Birthday WordPress posts. It’s awesome reading them; most posts (subtlety) demonstrate the authors own participation in WordPress. We’re all the developers of WordPress! Having only used WordPress the last 3 years and only having been really involved the last couple of years, it is humbling to reflect that it has been 5 years. There is a special spot in my heart for those that worked on WordPress before anyone cared, that first year, those participants with the foresight and perseverance to build on a open source foundation to establish the greatest web publishing tool, WordPress! This theme made available by NiftyTemplates has 2 main columns with sidebar split into 2 more sections. The theme come styled to add the nifty 125px square advertisements that has become a common flare among bloggers of all walk. The theme is easy to use, just upload and activate, then edit the header file (header.php) to include your own description of your blog, that is pretty much it. Within this interview, a number of questions were answered in regards to WordPress Trademark and logo usage, status updates on Akismet, Bbpress, TalkPress, BuddyPress, WordPress.com, WordPress.org, Theme Repository, Gravatar, the role that Warwick will play within Automattic, an explanation as to how the 2.5 administration redesign became a reality, how much influence do the end users of WordPress have on the development of the project, and last but not least, we discussed the Google Gears implementation into WordPress 2.6.
