"w00t!" there it is!
2007-12-21 06:46:00 As the year ends, Merriam-Webster once again asked web users to vote for its Word of the Year. And the winner is -- w00t!Spelled w-zero-zero-t, "w00t" is a word made popular by pc and video gamers which means: "expressing joy (it could be after a triumph, or for no reason at all); similar in use to the word 'yay'." Others say the two zeros were just added to make the word more cooler. This will probably turn off the wordsmiths and wordanistas out there. But then again we're at a time wherein people are communicating electronically with each other. Welcome to the Wikipedia generation.. "w00t" gained the 2007 honor because Internet users voted for it. Merriam-Webster explained that "w00t" hasn't been added to its print dictionaries, but instead is included in its online Open Dictionary.Last year's winner is "truthiness" - a word popularized by comedian Stephen Colbert. Now what's next, "pwned?"--------------technorati tags: gaming, w00t, merriam-webster, 2007 word of the year
2008 is coming.. is it the year of the worms?
2007-12-20 22:50:00 Is 2008 the year of the worm? Of course it's not, but the latest buzz on the social networking scene is about a worm spreading on Orkut with the message "2008 vem ai… que ele comece mto bem para vc." This translates to "2008 is coming…I wish that it begins quite well for you".For those who are not familiar with Orkut (and there's a lot of those), it's a social network owned by Google similar to MySpace and Facebook. Though it is not popular in the US, it's a big hit in Brazil (also India), in the same way that Friendster is like the national website of us pinoys here in the Philippines.According to an alert from anti-virus specialist Trend Micro, infection starts when an Orkut user is sent an e-mail telling them that they have a new Scrapbook entry.. you know, wall posts? comments? testi(monials)?. Logging into Orkut, the victim is greeted with that Portuguese-language message above. Once a user becomes infected, the infected account downloads and executes an embedded Javasc... Have you tried googling yourself?
2007-12-20 11:15:00 I'm just curious since i read this study on cnn, saying that more americans are googling themselves.. meaning they type their names on Google search engine and find out what the results will be.About 60 percent of Internet users said they aren't worried about the extent of information about themselves online, despite increasing concern over how that data can be used.53 percent of adult Internet users admit to looking up information about someone else, celebrities excluded. Often, it's to find someone they've lost touch with. But looking up information about friends, relatives, colleagues and neighbors also was common.Privacy on the internet has been a serious issue lately. People can learn a lot about a certain person just by searching at their friendster, myspace, or facebook accounts. That's why others are very careful on whatever information they are posting on the net, especially nowadays with companies also doing this online checking to know more about certain job applican... Hey, look! It's the Duke!
2007-12-20 08:36:00 Are you an old school pc gamer? If you're like me who grew up with Doom (shareware will do).. you've probably played or at least heard of Duke Nukem, originally a platform game but became popular with it's first person shooter - Duke Nukem 3D (1996). It was a big hit during that time and a controversial one too coz it's one of the early pc games that was alleged of promoting pornography and violent murders, but also notable for its often crude humor. In 1997, maker 3D Realms announced a sequel called Duke Nukem Forever, but stating it will be released "when it's done." Now 2007, ten years past, and after receiving a couple of vaporware awards.. the game seems to be pretty dead. NOT! Recently news and even videos surfaced on the net showing DNF. here's the teaser video:Now what do you think about this one? Will Forever really be out soon? or Forever Delayed once again. If it ever comes out, do you think it can still compete with the rest of new shooters out there? It did stand o...
catching up
2007-12-19 19:04:00 It's been awhile now since i last posted on my first blog. I've been busy changing the scripts and modifying the layouts of my main bread and butter. And now that they're finished and running I decided to get back and try my luck on blogging once again. If before I'm running the site from a computer rental/internet cafe, now I'm able to update it through my "newly-bought-second-hand-slightly-used-b ut-still-looks- newly-bought" Samsung Sens P29 laptop.. so expect frequent posts on this blog. I'm using an LG KU250 (cheap 3G) to connect to the internet and so far it's doing fine.. besides I don't really need a super fast connection right now, just enough so that I can update my sites and that i can watch some wrestling videos on YouTube.I still have a lot of catching up to do, reviews here, internet news there, latest tech stuff here, attach some widgets there, adsense here, adsense there. Time to fill this site up, and time to start subscribing to Shakedown 2.0 now :)---------...
