The Time Flies
2007-06-16 04:45:00 Was it just me, or did the day just fly past at breakneck speed? From the moment I woke up today, there has never been enough time. Hours turned to minutes, minutes became seconds, seconds didn't register long enough to be seen.Time stretched out in between the seconds and dragged out the moments. The moments achingly trudged past so slow that they moved in a blur until, before I knew it, it was time to leave. And now I sit in the recliner, sipping on pineapple juice, watching Michelle Monaghan trying to coax truth from Tom Cruise and wondering where all my hours went.I want them back.I want to spend them watching the sun set over the ocean in a red ball of flame and hope.I want to see her smile one more time, just to know that I wasn't dreaming and she really wasn't a fever dream that I once had long ago. I want to eat Vietnamese spring rolls in a humid little restaurant in a humid little town and think about the time that was to come and how I would spend the many hour... TSA Denies the Sippy Cup Incident
2007-06-16 02:01:00 ZZ noted in the comments today regarding the Sippy Cup Incident :TSA has posted video and the incident report on this. www.tsa.gov. Check it out.So I did. Wow. Video and a report incident. They must have all the facts, right? So I watched the videos. Huh.I watched them again.Double huh.Maybe I was missing something, but I didn't see anything that contradicted her account.Watched it again. Now I must be confused. so I forwarded the link to Mark Frauenfelder at Boing Boing. Maybe he could see something I missed. He posted a rolling commentary track to the video.Maybe I'm missing something. After all, it is Friday afternoon. The brain is still buzzed from multiple Mountain Dews.I'll watch them again later. But I did learn one thing: never mess with a mom in line with a kid. It's always more trouble than it's worth.technorati tags: TSA, sippy cup, video, response More About: Cide
Someone's Got a Crush
2007-06-16 01:13:00 NOTE: This bizarre missive was written while I was listening to the Prodigy at full blast after consuming a six-pack of Mountain Dews, so it probably won't make any sense whatsoever. Then again, when has that ever stopped me? And hey, it's not any stranger that Mike Gravel's art house campaign ad.One day, I will lose what little is left of my mind and run for president. I will run on any number of vague platforms that make no sense to anyone but me. I will be featured on a multitude of chattering-bigmouth pundit talk shows, talking about what I stand for and whether I am presidential. I will amass a large number of followers who listen to my insane rantings and rumblings and record them as if they are holy writ.In this strange Bizarro dimension, which would could never possibly exist in any sane multiverse, on that strange and auspicious day of days, I will have only demand. Just one command for my multitude of loyal acolytes, to be followed without question.Bring me an Ob... More About: Crush , Some
Can You Spare a Dime?
2007-06-15 23:29:00 George W. Bush, September 2005:Tonight so many victims of the hurricane and the flood are far from home and friends and familiar things. You need to know that our whole nation cares about you, and in the journey ahead you are not alone. To all who carry a burden of loss, I extend the deepest sympathy of our country. To every person who has served and sacrificed in this emergency, I offer the gratitude of our country. And tonight I also offer this pledge of the American people: Throughout the area hit by the hurricane, we will do what it takes. We will stay as long as it takes to help citizens rebuild their communities and their lives. And all who question the future of the Crescent City need to know: There is no way to imagine America without New Orleans, and this great city will rise again.Twenty months later:NEW ORLEANS -- The cash-strapped city of New Orleans is turning to foreign countries for help to rebuild as federal hurricane-recovery dollars remain slow to flow.Kenya Smith, ... TSA Halts Deadly Clown Menace
2007-06-15 22:46:00 I would like to congratulate the TSA for finally doing something about the clown scourge that infects our country. So after leaving the DeSantorium at 6:15 I high-tailed it back to Chicago O'Hare, driving like a stunt man in a Burt Reynolds movie. I made it to the Enterprise car rental with plenty of time to drop off the car and take the shuttle back to the airport.Once there I was told that my flight was jam-packed and was asked if I wouldn't mind taking the 12:00 flight which still had 25 seats available. I agreed and THAT was the moment that everything else went to hell in a handbasket. The TSA confiscated my makeup box, which has always flown in my carry-on luggage for the last 5 years. Why is my makeup in my carry on bag? Because ALL of my costume is in my carry on bag!If I get to town and my prop case doesn't arrive I can always head over to Home Depot or WalMart and scare up what I need to fill out two or three ring gags and some walkaround but if the costume, shoes, wig or m... "Entire Apartheid Communities"
2007-06-14 23:33:00 I suspect he is being coy, but Tbogg posits an interesting conundrum.Victor Davis Hanson:In the frontline American Southwest, entire apartheid communities and enclaves within cities have sprung up whose distinct language, culture and routines are beginning to resemble more the tense divides in the Balkans or Middle East than the traditional melting pot of multiracial America.Tbogg:As an American Southwesterner I'm not exactly sure where these "apartheid communities and enclaves" have sprung up, but I sincerely hope that they are surrounded by a buffer zone comprised of Little Italy, Chinatown, Koreatown, and maybe a pleasant neighborhood where you can still get a nice piece of whitefish to nosh on....OOOH! I explained that the sippy cup water was filtered tap water. The sippy cup was seized as my son was pointing and crying for his cup. I asked if I could drink the water to get the cup back, and was advised that I would have to leave security and come back through with an empty cup in order to retain the cup. When you walk into a room, women are instantly intrigued and even the men are impressed, but you're too nice a guy to steal anyone else's girl...unless the guy deserves it. Are We There Yet?
2007-06-14 20:03:00 For someone who is a bit more obsessed with current events and politics than most, I couldn't have helped but notice that I haven't really blogged anything political for quite a while. I really couldn't figure out exactly why this was the case. Then I read Wil Wheaton's post today, which hits that target right between the eyes and is so dead-on accurate, that I am reprinting in full. Why do we need a presidential campaign that lasts over two fucking years?I'm politically active, politically involved, and politically engaged . . . and I'm already sick to fucking death of this shit. These outrageously long cycles are all about money, which is all about corporations and PACs, which means that now elections are about perpetuating a Plutocracy.I used to count this down because it would finally be the end of our long national Bush/Cheney/Neocon nightmare, but now I'm counting down because it will just mean the end of the whole stupid goddamn thing. One day, we'll have 3 year, 364 da... Say Hello to My Little Friend
2007-06-14 17:42:00 Quit yer whining. It could have been worse.I couldn't help noticing that there is a lot of flak going around the net about the final episode of THE SOPRANOS. Not having seen many episodes (saw one from the first season, which was about all I needed to see to know that I wouldn't like it), it would be extremely foolish to comment on the entire series, but having seen the furor over the non-ending ending that happened last week, let me be the first to say to all fans of the show something that I've been dying to say for a long time:Get a life.Seriously. What the hell are you whining about? At least you guys got a proper ending. You may not have understood or liked it, but it was an ending. You got to see the story play out and you got to see the entirety of the vision that the creator(s) had in mind. You want to talk about disappointment? I don't think that I could properly describe it, having never seen real flowers before, but the aroma was heavenly. I could literally walk in them all day, and given the length of the fields, I probably could do just that. The sun, which none of my generation had ever seen before, shone brightly in the blue sky, and it struck me then how beautiful it all was, and how I would probably never live to see it return. The colors were so different from the drab greys and browns that I was used to seeing, and I admit that I dawdled a bit before finally getting back to the mission at hand.
