Wheel Never Stops Turning

Unless, of course, the wheel starts showing metal threads, at which point, it becomes necessary to replace said wheel.So Saturday night rolls around, my bills paid and me with a little loose change in my pocket. I finally got a replacement for the busted portable drive I had purchased on Friday, and things were looking up.And that's when I noticed the steel threads poking out of my right front tire.It figures; nothing ever goes wrong with my car when I have money.Fortunately, Pop had a few spare tires that are roughly the same size as mine, so here I sit in front of America's Tire Co., waiting for them to perform minor surgery on my precious little rustbucket.I'd like to say that I really miss work right now, but as I just finished having breakfast with Pop and am thoroughly enjoying the cool Southern California weather almost as much as I am enjoying not hearing my phone ring, I won't.Maybe I'll even get a story done before they get finished.

I was terminally bored this morning. Sitting in my little beige box watching the world happen on my screen via my feeds and wishing I was anywhere but where I was, it suddenly ocurred to me that I needed to get out of the office.So I grabbed the camera and tripod and hit the door to take some pictures.I'm back at my desk now, feeling more than a little gritty and sweaty, not smelling particularly nice at the moment and tracking caked mud everywhere. It turns out that there is a series of nature trails that run just behind the houses and strip malls in the hills around here. My legs and back are a little achy from all the climbing and huffing and puffing (no blowing any houses down, though). Joel and Ruth are going to have a baby girl. Joel called today and confirmed the news from the doctor's office. I should have a picture to post sometime after Thursday. Can't wait to meet her.So my niece Celeste should be here by September. Nice month. Not as nice as February, but nice all the same. Ruth is doing well, all things considered. They are still coming over to the Left Coast for the convention in late July, and then we take the 2 1/2 of them to the San Diego Zoo, which Ruth has always wanted to do. It should be fun.Oh, and I learned one new thing that I really should have known already: NEVER do a search in Flickr for the phrase "pink booties". And adding "baby" to the search phrase doesn't really help, either. My face is still red.
