World Cup Cricket 2007- team India
2007-03-10 13:52:07 The team in blue is buoyant this time around in the Caribbean with two series win under its belt at home against the Lankans and the Windies. The batsmen are in good nick and those injured are back in the squad. The team’s batting would revolve around its trio- Sachin, Dravid and Sourav who would lay the foundation of success in the Caribbean. The bowlers too are finding the rhythm and there is a certain variety in the spin duo of Kumble and Harbhajan with some part time options in Sehwag. Sehwag though has still not proven his form and has one more chance to redeem his ’sword edge’ aggression in the practive game against the hosts on Friday. Led by the positive captain Rahul ‘ Wall’ Dravid, the team looks in good shape in this tournament. Strengths- Solid experainced batsmen, good finishers, mixed pace and an loaded spin attack! Weakness- Slow movers on the field, Core Rahul Dravid The captain leads from the front when the team stares at adversity an... More About: Cricket , India , World Cup , World , Rick

World Cup Cricket 2007- Warm Up games?
2007-03-08 01:48:04 The warm up games before the main fixtures at the World Cup got underway with a couple of predictable results along with a shocking outcome. Australia defeated Zimbabwe by 106 runs. They set a target of 291 to Zimbabwe with Michael Clarke scoring a brisk 82 from 81 deliveries and Shane Watson also making a useful contribution of 81 from 89 balls. The disturbing element was the three quick wickets of important batsmen Ponting, Hussey and Hodge for paltry scores that could have caused some concern to the coach. The Zimbabwe then made the Aussies grind in the slow and placid conditions as the Aussies used 8 bowlers but still could not get the Zimbabwe team out! A psychological victory for the Zimbabwe team which has a bunch of inexperienced players as compared to the Aussies! In another match, Bangladesh stunned the Kiwis by beating them by two wickets. New Zealand set a target of 227 to chase which the Bangladesh team achieved with two wickets, thanks to two sixes by Mortaza off Frank... More About: Cricket , Games , Rick
World Cup 2007- Team Sri Lanka
2007-03-08 01:48:04 A strong team on paper, the Lankan side is one unit opposition would not like to take lightly. A good mix of experiance and youth, the team has players who have been a part of the World Cup winning squad of 1996! A solid batting order, good allrounders and some exciting fast bowlers makes this Lankan outfit a favorite in this World Cup. The batsmen are good players of spin bowling and on slow tracks of the Caribbean they could prove to be a handful both with their tall batting order and effective slow spin attack. Also, the side has two former captains and one stand in captain so there wont be any dearth of leadership and experiance! Team Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Marvan Atapattu, Sanath Jayasuriya, Upul Tharanga, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Russel Arnold, Chamara Silva, Farveez Maharoof, Chaminda Vaas, Dilhara Fernando, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Malinga Bandara. SMS?s past.. IMS?s the future..??
2007-03-07 13:47:01 A few years back, the arrival of SMS changed the world of communication. One could send his / her thoughts using text over the mobile phone. Well, now all that is history because SMS could very soon be replaced with IMS or Instant Short Messaging. IMS would be nothing but chatting over the mobile ohone 24 hours a day and all that would be required is a GPRS enabled mobile phone! Sounds intersting ..then here’s more ! To make this a reality top GSM operators Airtel, Hutch, BSNL and Idea Cellular under the aegis of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), have jointly developed a common IMS platform to ensure that customers can be on instant messaging, even if they do not use the same mobile service. So it no longer matter whether you are a hutch or an airtel subscriber, all you need is a GPRS enabled phone! The service has been started seeing the extensive use of chat by children in the 12-18 years age group. The service could be launched somewhere this mont... More About: Future , The Future , Past
World Cup 2007- Team West Indies
2007-03-07 13:47:01 The two time World Champions of Cricket are a team in the making. The team has staged a recovery after the void that was created with the exit of some legends from their team like Walsh, Ambrose and others. Though not quite the same force that made the opposition weak in the legs due to some fiery pace bowling and flamboyant batting display, this present side looks better than what it was a few years back. A good combination of young players like Dwayne Bravo, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Smith and experienced campaigners like Chanderpaul and Lara has made it a strong side. Team Brian Lara (captain), Ramnaresh Sarwan, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Smith, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dwayne Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Ian Bradshaw, Corey Collymore, Jerome Taylor, Denesh Ramdin, Devon Smith, Lendl Simmons, Daren Powell, Kieron Pollard. Strengths- Strong batting Order Weakness- Lack of variety in pace attack and the absence of a quality spinner Core Brian Lara The name says it all! Captain Brian Lara would h... Cricket World Cup 2007- Team England
2007-03-05 19:44:01 England is a side which has some stars in the ranks but could be considered as one of the weaker sides in the competition. It would certainly rely on the efforts of these key players to steer the team through to a victory. The absence of Marcus Trescothick would certainly hurt the side as the left arm opener had proved to be match winner on many occasions in the past but the side has found Strauss who could replace Trescothick to some extent. But given the conditions which are expected to be dry and the pitches which are going to be on the slower sides, teams fielding spinners could certainly fancy their chance against a team like England which is a bit vulnerable when it comes to playing spin bowling! Team Michael Vaughan (captain), Andrew Flintoff, Andrew Strauss, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Paul Collingwood, Jamie Dalrymple, Ed Joyce, Jon Lewis, Sajid Mahmood, Paul Nixon, Monty Panesar, Liam Plunkett, James Anderson. Strengths- A decent batting order with allrounders ... More About: Cricket , England , World Cup , World , World Cup 2007
Coke going the milky way- brand overhaul..?
2007-03-05 19:44:01 Coke initiatives for the future could be looked upon as a classic case of Brand Over haul. In the recently concluded All India Bottlers Meet in Bangalore Coke gave impressions of distancing itself from Carbonated Soft driks (CSD) in the future. Sounds surprising? Seems to be true, for, Coke has given hints of shedding its fizzy image not only in the US but also in India. In the years to come, the fizz from the drinks would have gone as the company is seriously considering overhauling its portfolio. The Company has begun to talk about Milk , milk based products, coffee based flavors, ice cream colas and Indianised drinks like Aam panna etc. To make an impact, the company seems to be hurrying into things and looks to lauch a few products by this summer! The change in its portfolio could be due to the controversies that the company found itself mired in such as the pesticide and the Land water crisis in Kerala’s Palakkad district. Coke seeks to combine carbonation in everything fr... More About: Coke , Going
Cricket World Cup 2007- Team South Africa
2007-03-05 07:43:01 If there is one team which has been unlucky as far as winning the World Cup is concerned, then it is South Africa . Always radiating promise and potential, the Proteas have failed to win the cup despite fielding talented sides in the past. They were a stone’s throw away from winning the cup in 1999 when Gibbs put down the catch of Aussie Captain Steven Waugh and thence lost the semifinal match and the World Cup too! The team for the 2007 World Cup has a good mix of aggressive talented and experienced players. They also have a good breed of fast bowlers like Ntini, Pollock and Nel who can pose threat to any batting line up in the tournament with their pace and discipline. Team Strengths- Aggressive batting, good allrounders and fine pace attack Weaknesses- Lacks quality spinners and experience in the batting order Core Graeme Smith Captain Graeme Smith has emerged as a successful captain who has given the team many successful wins. Opening the innings he is a strong on ... More About: Cricket , South Africa
Universal Remote Control- Freedom from multiple remote controls ?
2007-03-05 07:43:01 The recent launch of Sony?s Universal Remote Control (URC) is a step towards the future of entertainment. Well, this is not just an ordinary remote but one that is like an orifice to multiple entertainment sources! There are different devices for entertainment such as DVD players, Set Top boxes for DTH, Television etc and each comes with a remote of its own. So, when you operate two or more devices simultaneously you need to juggle with the respective remotes and times this becomes a cumbersome exercise! To rid you of these troubles, Sony has come up with a Universal Remote Control. This unique device not only operates gadgets but also takes care of your PowerPoint presentations. This concept has been a hit in UK and US though it is relative nascent in India where it was launched recently. A simple model URC is priced somewhere around Rs.1000 whereas the higher range URC could costs upto Rs.15,000. Although the device was introduced by Sony India three years ago, it was recently tha... Cricket World Cup 2007- team New Zealand
2007-03-03 19:41:02 If we want a team that could upset the World Champions and give them a run for their money then it is got to be New Zealand ! Probable the most underwritten side in the tournament, the Kiwis are one of the most competitive sides. Known for the sheer depth of talent, it won’t be fair to call their bowlers- all rounders! Their recent performances against the World Champions reiterated the fact that they are a handful on any conditions and against any team. Their two 300 hundred plus successful run chases against the Australians have given a fillip to the hopes and aspirations of the side which would go into the tournament with a key player- Nathan Astle who retired recently. The team has found Ross Taylor and Fulton who have shown great promise and have lent solidity to the batting lineup apart from instilling the faith in the team that they can win as a unit! Team New Zealand Stephen Fleming (captain), Daniel Vettori, Daryl Tuffey, Shane Bond, James Franklin, Peter Fulton, Mark ... More About: Cricket , World Cup , World Cup 2007

Haydos? but still the team boasts of a fine mix of effervescent youth and experience combined ina near perfect proportion. Samjhauta express blast..another soft target
2007-03-03 19:41:02 The blasts in the Samjhauta express rocked the entire world and in particular India and Pakistan. The bombs exploded in the evening hours when the passengers were asleep and virtually ’sitting ducks’. A shameful and a heinous act of terror which needs to be condemned on all fronts, an act which takes the lives of innocent people is not justified from any angle, no matter how important the cause. The blasts again have opened up a few issues about which I spoke when the Mumbai serial blasts happened. The first and the primary is the issue of security in Indian railways. The huge network and the number of people using the railways makes it one of the most preferred target for a militant group or a terror attack. Compounding the misery is the lack of appropriate security at the railway stations which enables people to carry any stuff without a check or surveillance. A classic example of this is a live instance in Mumbai. I was travelling from Dadar to CST station at around 1... More About: Other , Press , Last , Soft , Another
Indian television industry.. present and future..
2007-03-03 19:41:02 Indian television industry has seen a surge in terms of development of technology and content in the last decade. From Doordarshan’s to DTH it has indeed come a long way to say the least. From Fauji and Chaupal on Doordarshan to Viraasat and Big Brother on Cable Channels there has been a marked change. Though in terms of the global scenario we are behind the clock but given the way things work in our country we have not done bad! Let’s take content for instance; the industry has seens a series of trends in this regard. From quiz shows to soaps to reality show it has been a roller coaster ride all throughout with one thing running as a common string in all of these- ‘change’. Each of these trends has given way to something new which could be borrowed from other sources. A small example is the runway hit show- Kaun Banega Crorepati which is borrowed from ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’ and Big Boss which is taken from the UK show Big Brother. The c... Dream carefully!?
2007-03-03 19:41:02 Dreams..for some could mean a castle in the clouds while for some others it could mean a nebulae of clouds gone adrift! Dreams mean different things to different people, for some it is hope and optimism while for others it could imply finishing last in a marathon race! All of us like to dream dreams which are saccharine and full of life. But many a times they turn out to be like those clouds which for a moment look within our grasp and the next moment seem far away. Yes, some dreams are meant to fail, some hopes are meant to be grounded. Just imagine if everybody in this world got everything they dreamed then it would be a great world bereft of worries and disappointment. Unfortunately it does not happen like that and only few dreams become reality. Disappointment at the failure of a dream keeps the faith alive in this five letter word- DREAM! Some dreams are like a fresh pitcher prepared out of clay. When the liquid of expectations fills this pitcher, it invariably breaks. It won?... More About: Care , Dream , Full , Careful
Shane Warne..end of an era?
2007-03-03 19:41:02 The retirement of Shane War ne comes as a disappointment for his fans across the world. But everyone has to resign to fate and so this was on cards! Shane Warne is unarguably one of the greatest leg spinners the world of cricket has seen. In fact it is his bowling which came as a lifeline to ailing art of leg spin bowling and lifted it from dumps. A character on the field, his off the field ‘antiques’ ensured that he was in the thick of controversies and limelight. But every time a challenge ‘on the field’ surfaced, there was Warne upto the task. What makes him special is his simple bowling action and the degree of turn which he extracts from wickets. Even mundane wickets which do not offer help to spin around the world such as those in England and South Africa, too responded to his bowling and offered lots of assistance! His bowling’s uniqueness is the ‘rip’ which he imparts on the bowl. A leg spinner’s turn on the ball is directly...
Indian cricket team trimuphant in Johannesburg!..Dec?06
2007-03-03 19:41:02 Indian cricket team finally pulled off a performance as a cohesive unit and achieved the unachievable- defeating the proteas in their own backyard for the first time in four tours! A fanstastic achievement indeed..! What was heartening to see was the spirit and the pride shown by the players on the field. From Sreesanth to Ganguly each player showed nerves of steel and put on a awesome performance. This victory had a semblance to the victory in the test match over the Australian team when India toured Australia last time. Grit, perseverance, discipline and application were the ingredients which went into the making of the recipe -VICTORY! As I had mentioned in my previous post, the team had failed to apply themselves to the conditions provided to them and as a result had faltered in the one day series. But the heartening element after the one say series was their regrouping and bouncing back as a unit! Indian batting for a change showed character and resilience. Despite initial hicc... India tamed by Proteas in the second test match?Dec 06
More articles from this author:2007-03-03 19:41:02 All the jubilations of the first test were silenced as the India n team meekly capitulated in the second test at Durban. The team failed to live up to the expectations of the first test match in both departments of the game. But more importantly it was the batting which proved to be achilles heel for the Indian team. In both the innings, the openers failed to give the team a solid start and the team lost one of them within five to ten overs! Sehwag has not learnt from his mistakes and the chips for sure look down for this flamboyant batsman. In a foreign tour, only players with the tenacity and the temprament to adjust and learn quickly survive and score runs. And unfortunately Sehwag has failed to show both these traits. He continues to feel the balls outside off stump and fends for them. These are the deliveries which have brought about his downfall. I can vivdly recollect that when Sachin Tendulkar was peppered with short pitch deliveries in the last tour of South Africa by the lik... More About: Proteas , Second , Test Match , Match 1, 2 |
