I have been away for a few weeks. Still trying to catch up with all of my e-mails, etc. I have two articles that were published on AC while I was away. I'll post those soon. Otherwise, did manage to read a few good books. My absolute favorite of the lot was The Opposite of Fate: A Book of Musings by Amy Tan. You get a glimpse into her life and her writing. Zen and the Art of Happiness

Yesterday, I finished reading Zen and the Art of Happiness by Chris Prentiss. Prentiss starts the book with a simple statement which he uses in his life:Everything that happens to me is the best possible thing that can happen to me.Prentiss uses this powerful statement as a foundation for overcoming stress, dealing with setbacks, and finding happiness in everyday life. He explains the laws of the Universe and how to align yourself with the Universe in order to find the peace you seek. The emphasis throughout the book is upon gaining happiness through modifying your thoughts and outlook on life. I really enjoyed reading this book. If you are a novice to the law of attractionthis is a great primer. If you are already familiar with the law of attractionyou will still benefit from Prentiss' wisdom. Associated Content: Exclusive versus Non-Exclusive

I just started submitting articles at Associated Content . However, I have thought about it and decided that from now on I will submit all articles as non-exclusive. I noticed that there isn't much of a difference between the amount offered for either type of submission. I just finished reading How to Become a Famous Writer Before You're Dead by Ariel Gore. This is such a great book! Gore outlines a plan to help you attain lit star status. She advises publishing before you are ready; writing a zine; developing a superhero alter ego; revelling in rejection; and sending thank you notes. Gore also includes interviews with different writers including Julia Alvarez and Dave Eggers.This is not your average writers handbook. This book is full of great advice disguised in a package of pure fun. This book will have you laughing out loud while taking notes on the side. Can you tell I loved this book? What I Am Reading

I just started reading Last Evenings on Earth by Roberto Bolaño. I'm only on the third story but, I like what I have read so far.While reading this book, I kept having flashbacks to Jorge Luis Borges. I was not surprised to find out that Borges was one of Bolaño's influences. The characters in the short stories (ok, the two I have read) also remind me of the characters in an Anton Chekhov short novel. I read the Volokhonsky and Pevear translation last summer. Bolaño's characters seem to have the same melancholy resignation to their lot in life. I find these characters both frustrating and enormously interesting. They are self deprecating and needy. So far, both characters have been unsuccessful writers. I can't shake the feeling that Bolaño has contempt for his characters. A book review I submitted (exclusive and for payment) was originally not accepted by Associated Content . The comments from AC were that book reviews were not accepted if they were not consumer related and easily found through the search engines without the title. I decided to resubmit the article and did two things:1. I re-wrote the headline.Original headline: Dowsers, Remote Viewers, and Psychics. Oh My! Re-written headline: Parapsychology and Scientific Inquiry.2. I also linked to three other related articles within Associated Content . No other editing was done. The article was just accepted.
