When television is actually useful
2007-10-18 20:09:00
Last night watched several shows on the History and National Geographic channels. One was sexual taboos on an episode of Taboo on Nat Geo. Great stuff. The others were mostly History Channel ones, one on USOs (Unidentified Submerged Objects) and it shed some light on the "triangles" - magnetic fields in Earth's oceans (think Bermuda, etc.) and these amazing first-hand accounts from Naval men - even 15 or 20 different sailors seeing these incredible things at the same time.Something to see - some really interesting points of view. Then I took in a show on "Nazi Predictions" basically Nostradamus and everyone since him who successfully predicted the rise of Hitler (Hister!)There's a show on Nostradamus' lost/last book on October 28th on the History Channel I'm going to be sure to catch. Looks good - about 2012, I believe.I added some interesting links to the blogroll, as well, after remembering my interest in things of this sort.I also watched the Daily Show and Colbert Report, come ...

What goes on
2007-10-05 06:49:00
It's been a few since a post, but this is what's been going on in our camp. The book with same title as this blog is under heavy editing.I believe we've compiled all the text and as soon as it's ordered, formatted and read through a few times we should be good and ready.Things are moving faster than perhaps anticipated, and that's a good thing.Hope everyone is well, and that you're ready for this strange, if not interesting book.-J

The ancient astronaut theory
2007-07-06 07:00:00
Oh yeah - I did see this really awesome episode of Is It Real the other night about the "ancient astronaut" theory (I can't believe I just linked to Wikipedia - my arch enemies), or the theory that extraterrestrials assisted/bred/had a hand with somehow/interacted with early human civilization. Such a good, possible theory. It's one of my favorites.A lot on the ancient astronaut theory is here, and also at Legendary Times. I've listened to some of Zechariah Sitchin's stuff, it's rather good too - on the ancient Sumerians. There's so much we don't know.We do know that SSRIs (types of antidepressants) are addictive. The things I tried to stop taking but I apparently still need. Check out the music here.Been listening to a ton of Meat Puppets. Decided that this blog is to be my main one, for all my many interests.Should be good stuff.

Mental states
2007-07-06 06:57:00
Haven't felt like writing or doing much at all lately.Depression and such for the last few days.. I had been okay up until recently.Got back from the canoe trip, it was good. Missed the wife, although she doesn't believe me.Still trying to figure everything out. Working on a couple books.Doesn't everything feel like a cycle? It's expensive to live. Has it always been this way? At least writing songs is still free.

topics of study
2007-06-24 09:40:00
I updated the sidebar a little bit tonight, when I should be sleeping.Basically, I realized there are topics I'm really interested in or that I think are important/should be brough to the forefront for educational purposes, and more. Those are the "topics of study" now at the top of the sidebar. I tried to mix up the rest of the material on there - videos, music and such.Still working on the other blog too, Guerilla Ontology. (A pre-warning for some : that blog is a little more adult-themed, perhaps.) On that blog, most of the links on the left lead to lyrics of the songs of Unschoolhouse Rock, my music project.Nearly all of my information is rather radical, though, I know... kind of shocking to some, breaking some new ground and touching all kinds of taboos. That's just the way it goes, though.School is a dumbing-down process, a spirit-killing and conformist way of preparing innocent children for the cog-in-the-wheel workday of today's high-stress crap-jobs.I know because I've b...

better bedtimes and exercise
2007-06-20 08:49:00
I'm going to bed before 3 am perhaps tonight!Wow.And tomorrow and possibly the next day, taking Jack out with the stroller around the neighborhood. It provides interest for him and exercise for me, even though it's not technically a "jogging stroller". Who freaking knew.Anyway, good stuff. Also, I have another performance scheduled for July 21st in Portsmouth (NH). Busking it style, outside. My wife and I may sell our White Stripes tickets for Portland (Maine), which sucks. The new Bad Religion and Meat Puppets albums aren't all that great, either, which sucks. They were so highly anticipated... by me.I registered 3 new domain names, FINALLY - UnschoolingTools.com for this blog, and ImprovementMedia.com plus UnschoolhouseRock.com (right now it just leads to the MySpace!)Also, I think I finally cemented the concept for the other blog I'm working on, focusing on really all my interests in one (maybe) - it's on Blogspot too, an idea culled from the great Robert Anton Wilson, and it...

The false promise of the US of A and stupid dragons
2007-06-18 20:19:00
The other day my wife and I watched the interesting documentary In Debt We Trust and it turned out to be just as revealing and depressing as it should have been. This country promises freedom and prosperity, but what it really gives us is a lot of ever-more-expensive products and not enough compensation at our jobs.Speaking of, I just had to use my already-loaded credit card to get the internet working again. Funny, right? And so the cycle of insane American false dreams continue.I did just get a ton of infant formula and milk for free from the local WIC program. Maybe that's a good thing (especially since I have no money). This is the ONLY state help program that has been of any use so far.So much for the Earth's Best formula we had been using, it was so good, but so expensive. Now on to a big corporate Nestle product, I suppose, since it's free and such.Boy, the kids' show Dragon Tales is freaking stupid.I suppose that's all for now.Pinching and scrounging.unschooling tools and...

Exersauce
2007-06-14 21:04:00
So my son Jack is 5 months old. He's crazy and getting crazier by the day. But also CUTER. I'm trying to show him things and words and such to get him talking. He also isn't crawling or walking yet, but soon. He likes to stand in that Exersaucer.I'm still just collecting up materials for future unschooling. Being the son of my wife and I, he's already going to be able to be exposed to all kinds of different/unorthodox viewpoints. On another note, I recently read Philip K. Dick's book Valis, and man, some of those Gnostic ideas are really interesting.I've been able to get myself to walk around the neighborhood with Jack in the stroller at least a couple times this week. Great exercise for me, getting outside for him, and good sun for both of us. I hear it's good to get like 15 or 20 minutes a day, for health reasons.I have been feeling a lot better. Now if I can only get more sleep and more time to meditate. Funds have been tight with this little guy, but we also try to eat he...

focusing on important topics and subjects
2007-06-08 01:49:00
So last night I really worked on streamlining/simplifying the information overload that existed in the form of my incredibly disorganized 400GB external storage drive. This went well, although it caused me to stay up much later than I had intended. I noticed that while I sorted through all this information, it helped me to really focus on which topics/subjects I either care most about and/or are most interested in reading up on.So, that task mostly finished (I had been putting it off a long time), I only say "mostly" because I'm still editing my "music playlist" folder by deleting those songs from CD rips that I can't stand. You know, the ones you always skip over when listening straight through?Anyway, the connection all of this has to unschooling is that I realized I have such a large wealth of digital information to pass along to my son, when he comes of age. There are research materials on so many topics, some of which include astronomy/the universe, other science, philosophy, p...

a passion for knowledge.... and unschooling
2007-06-06 08:25:00
I think I've finally found a topic I can really talk about - education, knowledge, and specifically, unschooling.I was told a long time ago I might make a good teacher. Now that I have a son, I'm thinking about his future and I don't like what I see in public school- I went to public school, and they get worse every year. Not only is it the problems we think of, but there's the miseducation that's going on - the painful omissions of important things that might be closer to what we think our child should be exposed to.Less walking on eggshells and more clear-cut reality refocus. That's really what refocusality is all about.More soon.unschooling tools and unschooling multimedia for radical unschooling with different, unorthodox ideas

Earth feeling and Turning Quantum Wrenches
2007-06-06 04:37:00
A while back, I had an idea called Earth feeling and that turned into Turn ing Quantum Wrenches, a book/project which I'm currently working on.Much of the media I create is indeed secular in nature, and anti-authoritarian in that it questions/makes observations about things usually just accepted as given in our societies and culture. In the column on the right, there are several videos of me performing some of the "unschooling songs" live. And for recorded music, go here. But hey, that's all for now. Until next time (very soon), take care.unschooling tools and unschooling multimedia for radical unschooling with different, unorthodox ideas
