post 7 - How to pay for school without a job
2008-04-15 14:10:00
She was surprised. “Really, because in the morning I woke you up and asked if you had called, you said you did.” Surprised, I didn’t remember calling work or getting up, I must have lied to her. Mom on the other hand though that what I had done was a terrible idea. “That isn’t very ...

I Decided to watch ‘Vanilla Sky’ as I had rented it the week before, but hadn’t watched it yet. I contemplated that if I watched it, it would be a late night and hard to get up in the morning; I decided to watch it anyways. The movie was awesome and seemed ironic now that ...

post 5 - student loans and telling parents
2008-04-11 14:00:00
While driving home, I thought about what I had said only a few minutes earlier and wondered what I was going to do. There was no way I was going back to the factory; I was done with it and it was imperative that I quit. Turning down my street, I contemplated my money situation. Money would be tight but I could handle it; where there is a will there is a way. And a student loan, that would help. Walking into the house, mom was watching TV; heading into the TV room I told her about my plan by saying, “I really need a break and time to recuperate before going back to school.” Then I asked if she would stop paying my rent if I quit; dad had made that threat before but she hadn’t jumped to that conclusion yet. She was concerned and said, “You should keep your job, you need the money… But regardless I’ll still pay your rent because that was the original deal.” In some odd way this seemed like approval, I had convinced the person I needed to convi...

post 4 - drive and dislike, my last night
2008-04-10 19:42:00
One of my new friends was waiting in the lobby and talking on a pay phone. She mentioned needing to get somewhere and not having a drive, so I asked, “Would you like me to drop you off somewhere?” We didn’t know each other very well but she must have trusted me and said, “Sure.” ...

post 3 - awestricken by job, cow hearts and blood
2008-04-09 17:17:00
I was awestruck; this guy’s job consisted of throwing frozen cow hearts and blood into a grinding machine. For some reason this made me hate my job even more, it was disgusting! But then I remembered, it’s better than throwing these parts into the garbage; life is lost, we might as well use all of ...

2008-04-08 13:45:00
All day I thought about quitting, wondering what I got out of this job. There was now only one benefit, that being I was in contact with the other summer students. I’d never talked to them before so I figured I’d use this as an opportunity to say something. Not saying too much, ...

Heading to work, I thought I left at a good time; I was wrong and late. It was only 7:05 not too bad, but it was late, late enough to miss the tour. After ten minutes a new manager arrived, saying in a stubborn and displeased tone, “I’ll take you on a tour.” After ten more ...

2008-03-28 13:12:00
The next morning when there was a little light I decided to head downstairs to a real bed, with the darkness gone there wasn?t anything to be scared of. I was reawakened by the sound of my cell phone buzzing; I was surprised, I didn?t think I’d left it on. Opening the bag and reaching ...

I was really being pulled into the experience if you know what I mean; the movie continued and I could think of nothing else. Time seemed to arrive on queue and looking at the clock I saw 1:23:45 and 3:33. These times were also a part of the movie found on flickering clocks. The imagery ...

Later that night after my parents were in bed I rolled a joint; when it was finished, I headed outside to smoke it. post 1 - reading, dreaming, novels, context
2008-03-24 23:07:00
I’d been reading and dreaming a lot and at the time it was my favourite past time; naps are a great time to get some practice. Thinking back to what I said in the car, it wasn’t really that far over the edge. Life is all about context; a problem in this novel as well. I’m choosing what to tell you and acting as though that is all there is; in a novel it makes sense but in real life it’s a lie. Remember that context is everything. Dreaming had led me to that conclusion; anyone who has ever had a lucid dream knows of their vividness and can attest to their realism. After Max spazzed out, there wasn’t any discussion about what was said and rightfully so; it wasn’t worth talking about anyways. Neither Max nor dad were into dreaming or philosophy so my conversation was too deep; most conversations of consequence are. In all honesty, I simply needed to learn to think before I spoke; context defines appropriateness. Max was pissed and so was I. Reaching for my bag and decided t...

I?d been into dreams at the time and had spent a lot of time reading about them. Sitting in the car and out of the blue, I decided to say, ?So when you?re dreaming and awake, you?re in the same state of experience.? Why would anyone in their right mind say something like that, unfounded and ...

He was a powerful man, he?d say in a holy Christen tone. I didn?t know what he meant but it must have had something to do with his morals. He?d left China and come to Canada; the land of opportunity, he figured. Now the only job he could get was this one, which sucked; I ...

Still working at the meat factory, I was already losing interest in the job but ironically there were perks (humour me). I got to start at a nice time, 2 pm; after all, I was a night person anyways. It was convenient; it allowed me to keep up my marijuana habit. With a late return ...

The factory also made hotdogs; in fact, everything they made was like a hotdog, some were just bigger than others. Regardless they weren’t that bad, just as good as anything else produced in the factory. Odd ends of meat, preservatives, water, salt and a slew of other chemicals. One day I was sent to the room with the blue bags; this time my job was to cut the ends off sticks of pepperoni so they could be packaged. Working too fast, I wasn’t being cautious and ended up misplacing my hand; the knife sliced through to my skin. Dropping the knife to the floor, blood flowed from my latex glove; the white insulating gloves underneath turned red. I was a little surprised; I hadn’t realized how sharp the knife was until now. Luckily, the floor manager was right there. He lead me out of the factory and into the health and safety room. After a quick examination, it was clear that I only needed a Band-Aid. Then there was paper work, pages of it, for workers compensation purposes. You kn...

For a long time I hadn’t eaten meat, it disgusted me and this job didn’t help my bad logic. The meats we produced were the lowest of the low; I now know never to eat the ham at a popular submarine sandwich chain. I worked in the packaging section of the factory. My first task, and the task I’d do for most of the time, involved pealing the meat tubes. Starting off with a sharp knife, I’d cut off the end of the massive frozen hot-dog, then peel away the paper-plastic casing, revealing the meaty mess. After removing the casing and throwing the hotdog onto a new rack, another person carried the meat to the slicer. The factory was a massive automated machine. Once sliced, the meat rolled down a conveyer belt where it was packed in either a plastic bag or a plastic formed package. The packages rolled down another conveyer belt, where they were counted and thrown into boxes. Then the boxes rolled into a machine where they were sealed with tape. Another person placed the boxes into ...

The factory was a massive refrigerated warehouse; in the back was a kitchen where the ‘meat products’ were made. The process usually involved ground up pieces of ‘meat’, water and salt thrown into a massive mixing bowl. Mixing the gruel with a flat beater the size of 6 men, spices and emulsifiers were added to the retched mess. The bowl bounced and rocked as the mixture steamed; after an hour of this the meat vomit was poured into a paper-plastic-tube miles long. The tube was filled to a certain point, then sealed with a metal clamp, filled and clamped again; this went on ’til the ‘meat’ was gone. For the most part this is how the ‘meat’ was made, but there was one exception; roast beef. From what I could tell it was a chunk of real meat. After all this processing the ‘meats’ were piled into a smoking room where they rested for a few hours; when they came out they were solid and cooked. Then they were trucked into massive freezers, where they waited to be s...

I’d been working my shitty summer job; the year before there was lots of variety, this year things had changed. Every day I mowed lawns, trimmed hedges and picked weeds from gardens; boring work that only got more boring with every house. Repetition is hell. Not only was the job tedious but my co-workers were extremely close-minded. ...

I had further plans, as the subway pulled into the mall I headed to the nearest Wal-Mart with the hope of finding a cheap coffee grinder. After all it would be useful in the preparation of the weed before vaporization, the more surface area the better the vaporizer worked. At Wal-Mart I couldn’t find a coffee grinder, which was surprising, they have everything. I decided to go to Canadian Tire instead, a Canadian chain that is pretty much the same as Wal-Mart. Knowing they had a small appliances selection I headed there next. I went inside quickly and headed directly to the right department, looking around I quickly found the coffee grinders. There were a few to choose from, but I already knew what one I was going to get, it was the cheapest one too, I’d already spend enough money today. The coffee grinder only cost ten dollars so I was impressed, paying I headed home. I wasn’t worried about bring the Vaporizer into the house; I’d gained a lot of confidence since my mother c...

Hello readers, I have been very unmotivated to edit and get more chapters done, it seems it is likely related to the less then I would have hoped for success or lack of success.  There are not many hits so I feel as though my time is wasted, but that really isn’t what writing should be about. I should be doing it for myself, which of course is why I write, I can only hope to have it read and hey, if i do a good job that may actually happen.  The problem it would seem comes from a lack of advertising, and that I do need to do, anyhow I know how to do it and have done it before, motivation is a strange thing, mine has always been a little haywire. Anyways, in the next few days I plan to get the rest of the current chapter finished and get it posted. After which I will try to brighten up the new chapters, make them more interesting and hopefully have them contain an important message. I can do that? I was reading a book on acceptism today, if you haven’t heard of it I wou...
