I Joined Social Spark
2008-06-10 00:00:00
I joined Social Spark a few days back. Now what is Social Spark could be the obvious question right? In one line the answer would be that, "Social Spark is an exciting place where I monetize my blog, make friends, enjoy and all this with complete honesty". Social Spark is another effort from Izea to help bloggers who are interested in making money from their blogs. I had received an invitation to join when they were in the beta stage. I had a fair idea of what should be on offer but when I first stepped into Social Spark, I found that there was much more than what I thought was on offer. SocialSpark offers more than enough opportunities to we bloggers and best of all being a part of Social Spark not only helps me increase the number of visitors to my site but also pays me well. The opportunities are fair to all. All the while when I am making money from my blogs and am increasing the amount of traffic, I am also making quite a few friends on the internet who give me fair reviews ab...
World Environment Day
2008-06-07 00:00:00
Today is the "World Environment Day". Fliers, posters, banners, mailers and many more such things are on the internet and everywhere. A handful of people are working hard to generate a bit of awareness in people towards our environment. Our environment is deteriorating with every passing day. But we just do not want to bother about it. Mother Nature keeps pinching us every now and then with a slight shake of the earth or, a sudden downpour, but we are not bothered to care about these hints. We are busy destroying everything around us, the balance in nature, the flora and fauna and everything. There are those few people out there who have done everything they could to make us understand the importance of saving our environment. When they felt that we were still not bothered they thought that they would comemmorate a day to our environment and create that hype so that we at least spend a minute in that day to think about our environment. But we are still not bothered. In such a situa...
The Trip to Naini Tal
2008-05-26 00:00:00
The summers in Delhi was at its peak and the temperature was the highest in a few years. the heat was unbearable. That weekend for a long one for me as I was fortunate enough to get three weekly-offs together. This made it the perfect moment to plan for a weekend getaway to Naini Tal. Naini Tal was about 320 Km from Delhi and the drive was joyous. We crossed villages in Moradabad and Hapur and saw some beautiful fields on the way before we reached Naini tal at around 0325hrs on 10th May 2008. We had started off for the trip at around 0620hrs the same day. We reached late by almost an hour because our car had a flat tyre twice on the way. Nevertheless the tiredness vanished at the sheer sight of Naini Tal. Surrounded by mountains on all the four sides, there was this beautiful town of naini Tal situated on the banks of the lake Naini. The weather was foggy bu we were there to enjoy. So we checked into our hotel and dropped our luggage and set off for a cool boating experience in the ...

The Story of a new blast
2008-05-26 00:00:00
In one of my earlier post I had discussed about the blast at Mumbai. Its is been more than a year since then, and here we have the latest blast at Jaipur. In this long one year our government is yet to start their initiatives against these terrorists. Condolences, political visits to the site and everything else is still on, but ask them what is the action they have taken to prevent these things from happening again and you would not find an answer. At times I wonder what could be the reason to this? Probably the reason is that in the recent past there has been no instances of terrorist attacks or, blasts where a renowned politician has been killed. Oh! so that says it all. Then what is the need to panick and ponder over security measures. Just relax my dear politicians, till it happens. Just a couple of days before the blasts, there was news that the Border Security Force thwarted an attempt by infiltrators aided by the Pakistan military enter the Indian territory. The next day, th...

Traffic - The Squidoo way
2008-05-18 00:00:00
When I first started to blog, my feeling was that my blog would be read by a thousand visitors from the first day itself. Though the reason why I started blogging was because I wanted a medium to express myself, I still yearned for people to visit my blog and read what I wrote. After a few days of blogging, I found that nobody was visiting my blog. Nobody knew about my blog and my blog was lost amongst the hundred thousand other websites on the web. I realized that generating traffic and sending them to your webiste is not a child's play. It needs some serious work. But the problem was that I did not know, what was the work involved. I did not want to spend money on advertising because my blog was not something that was intended to generate revenue. As I browsed through the internet, I stumbled upon a website called "Squidoo " which let users creat a one-page website on topics of their interest. Because it was something new for me, I registered for a new account on Squidoo. I create...

Blog-for-bucks cheaters
2008-05-18 00:00:00
I had never wanted to blog for money and that was not my objective when I started to blog. But as I matured as a blogger, I learnt about paid-blogging and accepted a few projects from a few paid-blogging companies. That is when I received a mail from a "Skylar Sinclaire" from an email address 'bigbucks@blog-for-bucks.com' requesting for a few posts in my blog for some money. I had no reasons to doubt their integrity and agreed to the project. They agreed to pay me on a date after about 15 days from the date I made the posts. I submitted the posts and waited patiently for the payment till the due date. When I did not receive any communication or, payment from them, I wrote to the email from where I received the post-requests. I received no reply for this mail and subsequent mails that I sent. Only then did I realize that I had been cheated. These scoundrels request posts and agree to pay you at a much later date so that the links are indexed and their purpose is solved. They t...

The Confidence Quotient
2008-05-09 00:00:00
It was the starting of the Indian Premier League. The entire tournament involved huge money. There were a lot of good players playing for the various participating teams and these players were being paid huge amounts of money. Because the tournament involved such huge amounts of money, the expectations were also high. There were certain teams studded with stars and there were certain other that had no or, less tsart in their teams. These teams were hence ranked based on their star value. Once such team was the "Rajasthan Royals". They were being called as the "underdogs". With no so-called stars in their team, theirs was the only team without a coach. A team filled with young domestic players were up against star studded teams. It was the first match for the "Rajasthan Royals". As the match ended, I started to realize the reason why this team was being called the "underdogs". The Rajasthan royals had lost, though not by a huge margin. I felt, this team cannot win. They are there to ...

The Politician moral police
2008-05-09 00:00:00
Camera....Lights.....Action..... You would now not be able to see your favorite character on the big screen drinking or, even holding a glass of wine or, champagne. For a moment just imagine, the thespian actor Dilip Kumar, or, Shah Rukh Khan in the role of 'Devdas' without the glass of whisky. Imagine a dialogue where Devdas says that, "Ma asked me to forget Paro, The world now askes me to forget drinking", without the word "drinking" in it. Wondering why all this imagination!!!! Thanks to our beloved health minister, Mr. Anbumoni Ramadoss, who these days have nothing to do. After having ousted his biggest rival Venugopal, the AIIMS chief, it seems he is short of work these days. So he thought why not see what the Indian film industry is doing these days. Isn't it surprising to see a health minister doing these foolish things. Shouldn't they set their own home right before playing a moral police on these silly things? Out very own netas are often seen eating Tobacco,...

The time to relax
2008-05-01 00:00:00
Work-life balance is no more to be seen these days. It is only work, work and work. But in pursuing our dream career what we forget, is our family who are ready to pay anything to spend that few minutes with us. But the question to be asked is, are we able to spend quality time with our family? It is high time that we did it. Take that time off from your work today and set off with your family for a vacation. It took me some time to take this brave decision, but I was fortunate that I did. As I discussed it with my boss, he asked me, "Where are you planning to spend your vacation?". I did not have the faintest of idea of a good vacation destination but I had heard a lot about Hawaii and the so the response was spontaneous, "Hawaii", I said. My boss then said, "In that case I would have lot of information to offer you because, I had been to hawaii a month back". "Damn lucky", I thought cursing him because of the fact that he was able to take out time for his family but, I was always ...

The BRT Corridor Drama
2008-05-01 00:00:00
Another 100 Crore has been wasted and another huge and much hyped about project is on the verge of abandonment. The BRT corridor has turned out to be a major flop with traffic congestion increasing and utter chaos ruling on the stretch. The efficiency of the planners in the government is under question again. Was this required? Why is it that measures to reduce traffic congestion are proving to be in-effective? There are multiple reasons to it. The first and foremost is that adequate research of the situation in hand is not done and a plan is drawn which when implemented throws everything in tantrums. Projects are designed and implemented, not for the benefit of the people or, to reduce traffic congestion but to ensure that the ministers and member of parliaments get a smooth ride. the biggest proof of this is the flyovers constructed in the past few years. Not one of them has helped in reducing traffic jams but only helps people who normally travel long distance and who else ar...

Ode to the West Wind
2008-05-01 00:00:00
I O wild West Wind , thou breath of Autumn's being,Thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves deadAre driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing, Yellow, and black, and pale, and hectic red,Pestilence-stricken multitudes: O thou,Who chariotest to their dark wintry bed The winged seeds, where they lie cold and low,Each like a corpse within its grave, untilThine azure sister of the Spring shall blow Her clarion o'er the dreaming earth, and fill(Driving sweet buds like flocks to feed in air)With living hues and odors plain and hill: Wild Spirit, which art moving everywhere;Destroyer and preserver; hear, oh, hear! II Thou on whose stream, 'mid the steep sky's commotion,Loose clouds like earth's decaying leaves are shed,Shook from the tangled boughs of Heaven and Ocean, Angels of rain and lightning: there are spreadOn the blue surface of thine aery surge,Like the bright hair uplifted from the head Of some fierce Maenad, even from the dim vergeOf the horizon to the zenith's heigh...
Keyword Elite advantage
2008-04-21 00:00:00
I was relatively new to the internet, when a friend of mine sent me a book on "Search Engine Optimization". The reading was interesting and I enjoyed every bit of information shared in the book. I was thrilled at all that I could do on the internet. The topic that grabbed my attention the most was "Keyword Research". Though this topic was very interesting, the initial few attempts at researching keywords for my first website showed me that keyword research was not easy. Thus started my quest for a reliable keyword research tool. I experimented with quite a few tools claiming to do a lot of things and paid quite a good amount of money for these but the results were 'ZERO'. All I did was loose a few thousand dollars. But I had a mission - a mission to succeed in internet marketing. So I did not stop there. That is when the same friend who sent me the 'SEO' book sent me an ebook, "Adwords made easy" written by a Brad Callen. My previous experience with the book that this friend had...

Arranging finance
2008-04-13 00:00:00
We had just passed out of college. Dreams in our eyes, we walked into the the world of competition. As commerce graduates we all wanted to be entrepreneurs. All of us had lots of ideas to work on and implement. But the problem was finance. Then started the quest for getting somebody to finance our projects. A few of us finally succeeded and a few other failed. The ones who failed joined petty 9-5 jobs and worked for somebody else. A few years ago it was so difficult to be financed. Loans were only available to the privileged. Getting a cash advance loan was something that we could not even dream of. Things have now changed. With multiple forms of financing available in the market, starting your own business, going for that home-renovation or, buying that favorite gadget that you had always wanted is not so difficult at all. With multiple financial institutions providing financing facilities in various forms, will it be advisable to blindly go for a finance from any of these institu...

Developed Vs Developing
2008-04-09 00:00:00
My friend was getting ready for the homecoming of his uncle. His uncle had left for the United States about 18 years back and was coming back for the first time. His son who was only 5 years then would be a grown up man now. The house was getting ready as if for a celebration. And why shouldn't they? After all it was the home coming of the only son in the house. The preparations were just about complete when the family arrived. With all the embraces and feet-touching, there were sweets and some songs also. I had been staying with my friend for the past 3-4 days, helping him in the preparations. After the lunch, it was finally time to relax and we all spread ourselves in the beds that were put under the shady trees in the courtyard. As we all - me, my friend and his nephew along with a few other friends sat down and discussed things, my friend said how tiring it was to rennovate the entire house. My friend's nephew bore a lost look on his face and asked surprisingly, "Isn't there ...
My Ancestral home
2008-04-08 00:00:00
My ancestral home was a pleasure to visit. The memories of the days I spent in that few days that we would visit our native is worth cherishing for a lifetime. Everything about the house was special. The sprawling bungalow as it was, in itself was a puzzle not solved. The garden around the house, the water-fountain where we would spend most of our evenings and the mango trees on which we were the ones most seen than those squirrels, are all engraved in my memories. The very thought of visiting my ancestral house was exciting. My grandfather had some wonderful collections of antique furniture and pottery. Earlier when I was a child I had never thought of even knowing what these collections meant, probably because there were other important things in life for me then. So this time round I was very keen to spend some time studying these collections. What was awaiting me was something else. The furniture and pottery were in a near death stage. Termites had destroyed the furniture to an ...

Music - a career
2008-03-29 00:00:00
I still remember the days when I used to ride my bicycle with my guitar at my back. I felt so proud when somebody asked me if I was learning guitar. There were very few people who would opt for music classes as parents were more keen on ensuring that their children are good academically. Music had no priority because there was no career out of music. I learnt guitar for some time, then went on to become the lead guitarist in my college band and that was it. After college when I got to know that music could not give me a career, I had to turn to my academics. Today, music is a career. Schools and colleges have compulsory subjects on music. Music is no not just confined to the college bands or, Orchestras but has now taken an altogether different shape. With the reincarnation of the radio and the onset of the discotheques and pubs culture, the demand for music and musicians have increased. This in turn has give a career-oriented shape to music. When my friend narrated the off-site par...

Internet - the hub of information
2008-03-28 00:00:00
One of my clients called me up yesterday and told me that he was referring my name to a friend of his who wanted a website to be developed. I agreed to take up the project. When I got the call, I was surprised, when the person at the other end introduced himself as an advocate. For a second I wondered what this call was regarding and why would he need a website. When he explained how he was loosing clients just because he was unable to provide the required information online, I was shocked. But later I realized that even I for, that matter would prefer to get the information online. Why? Because I do not have to go out in search of information. I can sit at home and research on everything that I want and even order things online. Websites have now become a medium of advertising about your products and services. They are a medium of interacting with propspective customers, giving them a virtual experience of the product and service that is being offered. Professional s...

On a poet's lips I sleptDreaming like a love-adeptIn the sound his breathing kept;Nor seeks nor finds he mortal blisses,But feeds on the aerial kissesOf shapes that haunt thought's wildernesses. He will watch from dawn to gloomThe lake-reflected sun illumeThe yellow bees in the ivy-bloom,Nor heed nor see what things they be;But from these create he canForms more real than living man,Nurslings of immortality! One of these awakened me,And I sped to succour thee.

Protecting your privacy
2008-03-28 00:00:00
I was browsing through the internet the other day and was surprised to find one of my poems published in a website. I had never published it in any websites or, had given it to anyone to publish. It was then that I remembered that I had written the poem while I was sitting at the airport a month back. There were people sitting around me, but I hardly noticed them because I was busy with my laptop. "Privacy " is a noun, less found these days. Forget about celebrities, whose lifes are a feed for daily news, even a common man like me have lost privacy. We do not have the right to blame it on anyone except ourselves because it is we who are responsible for this invasion into our privacy. So, what is a solution to it? The available solutions would all, not be that comfortable, but do we have a choice? Probably, not. I could protect my laptop from those prying eyes and protect my works with a laptop privacy screen, but what about the thousand other things to which I have no other...
A Will - required or, not
2008-03-28 00:00:00
There used to be days when the television was full of advertisements on social concerns, trying to awaken people to their rights. These advertisements have died over the years giving way the ones that would generate revenues for the corporates and the television channels. With the death of these advertisements, people have also started to forget what their social responsibilities are. The birth and death registrations and marriage registrations have gone down and so are a lot of other basic responsibilities. Is it because we do not understand the implications of these? If I am asked this question, my answer would be partially, "yes". This is because, a major chunk of people doing this is being of ignorance to the implications but there are other who know these implications, yet prefer not to do it, because they think these are the least important things in life. We must understand that, A birth and death registration is a must and is helpful in maintaining proper records of these i...
Tax system and structure
2008-03-05 00:00:00
I have been a tax payer from the 3rd year that I started to work. I used to pay 20% of what i earned in the first 2 years and then 30% of my earnings since the 3rd year of my career. Appraisals would not make much of a change to my salary because a more that proportionate amount would be deducted as TDS (tax deducted at source) and when I get my salary, the amount would be much like what I was getting normally. Every financial year end would see a harakiri - a hasteful run to invest in whatever options possible and as much as possible so that I save something at least. But even after investing till the prescribed limit, which was not too much and was the maximum that I could when I end up paying 30% of my hard-earned money as Income tax, there would be a pinch somewhere in my heart and a pain, more so when I see that I don't even get the basic facilities that I deserve from my government. With the new Income tax structure being announced I sat down to calculate how that would ...

Rhinoplasty - Good or, bad
2008-02-27 00:00:00
There were a couple of actresses, about whom I heard while I was in school, that were very ugly looking and then they did something to their nose and they because beautiful. It sounded as if they had a magic wand which would turn an ugly duckling into a beautiful princess. "I wished I too had one", I remember one of my friends telling me. Now after so many years, when I got to know about Rhinoplasty , I figured out what was it that they would have done. The debate still continues, if your should do something artificial to your face to enhance your beauty or, not. People would have their own principles, but the hard fact is that it is only attractiveness that counts. To be attractive, you might have to go in for a face-lift or, a Rhinoplasty. Nose forms a very important part of the features of your face. A prominent and well-formed nose would add to the attractiveness of your face. To go for it or, not is upto the person who wants to do it. But, if your wish to get it done it is alway...

Skin Care and Treatment
2008-02-25 00:00:00
I happened to meet one of my friends after a long time. She was voted as the most beautiful girl in the college at our farewell ceremony. So when I met her after years, I was shocked to to see her face full of scars and marks. The most beautiful was nowhere to be seen. This is what could happen to your skin if you do not take adequate care of it especially, if your skin type is "Oily". Oily skin care could be a problem, but if you make it a part of your routine, you would gradually find that it is easier that presumed. It is always advisable to consult an expert on oily skin treatment because they would advise you on measures that are specific to your skin. But you can always do some basic things like washing your face with a pH-balanced soap twice a day or, whenever you come home after travelling. If you have acnes and pimples on your face, you need to ensure that you take extra care of your face. You should not peel or, puncture pimples using your nails as this could result in per...

Pets and their care
2008-02-25 00:00:00
Pets are an integral part of a family these days.I have seen lots of families keeping pets because they love you, care for you and are concerned about you much more than anybody else in the family would do. Their company provides a sense of belongingness. They are selfless and all that they expect for you is love and nothing else. As a pet owner your responsibility towards your pet is not just limited to keeping him at home. You need to devote some time towards pet care and health. It is not a "Quick second" thing. Feeding your pet with good and healthy food, bathing him, giving him medicines and vitamin supplements when required, taking him for a walk in the morning or, the evening all constitute part of pet care. It is worth spending some time on all of this because these pets repay you multiple folds. Pets are adorable and lovable and they provide you with the warmth and affection you would normally not find in human beings these days. By ensuring that spend adequate time on cari...

The transition from a town to a city
2008-02-04 00:00:00
I still remember that day at college. The elections were just over and the president and other office bearers were rejoicing their win in the elections. The other junior office bearers were to be elected. The elected office bearers walked into the hall where we were all seated and took their respective seats. The lecturers panel walked in. A peon walked in with a couple of covers with something in it. A sigh of awe struck the entire hall when he pulled something out of the packets. They were specially designed blazers in a brown shade for the office bearers. This was happening for the first time in the history of the college. The next few days saw everyone waiting for a trial wear of the balzer. Pictures were being clicked wearing these blazers as if there was no tomorrow. My college was in a small town where the term "latest" meant whatever came to our town, irrespective of when it came. That day at college was the first day when we saw a blazer beiong worn. It is only a few years ...

That Moment to Relax
2008-01-29 00:00:00
Life has become so hectic that we have forgotten what the term "relax" means. Family is now secondary and time to spend some time with them is not a part of our itinerary. But is this what we promised our family. Probably not. More than fulfilling a promise, taking time out to spend with them is a refreshing experience.Choosing a destination could be the most difficult decision and a wrong destination could ruin this entire experience. But with so much of information available on the internet, assistance in choosing this dream destination is not limited. As we talk about destination, what better destination than a getaway to an island that makes the presence of being close to nature, a reality. Beaches and water, sunbathing and water-surfing and many such activities, one would know the true sense of relaxing. One of my friends happened to visit an island beach a few days back and wouldnt stop talking about the time spent there. For people who would want to spend such beautiful time in...

A visit to Qutab Minar
2008-01-10 00:00:00
A few days back I happened to travel to Qutab Minar in New Delhi, an architectural wonder and was grieved to see the condition of the monument. There was nothing being done in terms of preservation of the monument and a few of the buildings were in ruins. I captured a few photographs of the monument with my Fujifilm Finepix S9600 which are available on a photosite. These thumbnails are from this site. Check out this slideshow.Trip to Qutab Minar
