Le Hall du Livre, Nancy
2008-01-09 20:33:00 Where? Nancy, FranceRecommended by: Cécile BenedicCécile said: "In Nancy, we have one bookstore "Le Hall du livre" (rue Saint Dizier, on the opposite of the McDonald's, downtown) which has ranges of books in English, Spanish & other languages. "Le Hall du Livre is also known as “La librairie promenade” and it really offers a pleasant promenade to all its visitors. While strolling through its three floors, you can find many other interesting things besides books – CDs, DVDs, classy postcards, a selection of international newspapers and lots of other stuff you wouldn’t expect to find in a bookstore. Nonetheless, Le Hall du livre is a bookstore above all, and books are its primary focus. The bookstore mainly focuses on fiction books, but it also has sections dedicated to art, history, biographies and even science fiction. Although most of the books in this store are in French, it also offers a selection of books in foreign languages, mainly in English. Another interestin...

Pod Vŕškom, Nitra
2007-12-21 00:22:00 Where? Nitra, SlovakiaVisited: November 2007 Not a main tourist attraction, but the 60 thousand city of Nitra in western Slovakia is definitely worth a visit if you happen to be passing by. However, finding some books in English may prove to be a rather tough quest. Visiting this bookstore is pretty much the only option you’re left with. Kníhkupectvo Pod vŕškom is a very nice bookstore. Small, nicely fitted up, never too crowded. The place has a warm family atmosphere, along with a good musical selection of tracks that play in the background, and you can really feel that the people who run this store really care about books. Most of the books in the store are in Slovakian or Czech, but the selection of English books is quite decent. You can find some two shelves of English books in the back part, where the used books are stored, and if you’re lucky you can find some good stuff there from time to time. New English books are stored right next to the entrance to the store. The...

2007-12-11 16:45:00 Dear all, So we’ve reached the 99th bookstore and thus we are posting this instead of the 100th one. We’ve started this guide some two and a half months ago and little did we know that only a short while after, we would already have a rather voluminous database of bookstores in Europe. The idea originated as a combination of two elements – our passion for books and our passion for traveling. These two come together in our habit of visiting local bookstores whenever we find ourselves in a new city. At first we thought that we could make a guide to bookstores throughout the whole wide world – of course, back then it was just an idea, a nucleus around which we built this website. Later on we realized that even if we narrow our focus to Europe, the project still remains very ambitious and its success depends largely on the contribution of the visitors of our website. Luckily, we were fortunate enough to have you to help us. Therefore, we would like to thank all the people who ...

Among the books on offer are many titles in English and other languages. Perhaps the most interesting for visitors are the travel books and maps, the translations of ancient and modern Greek literature and the cook books featuring Greek cuisine. However, we did not happen to stumble upon this branch of the Eleftheroudakis chain but the one in Nikis street, near Syntagma, on our trip to Athens. The Nikis bookstore offers a moderate, yet very interesting, selection of English titles. The prices at Eleftheroudakis bookstores range from reasonable to moderately high.About the bookstoreEleftheroudakis was founded in 1898.
