I have recently picked up the novel “Ysabel” by Guy Gavriel Kay, a fine Canadian author of fantasy. One of my favourites, in fact, as I say here. I have read mixed reviews about the novel, about how it strays from the usual Kay and maybe that’s not a good thing. But Kay has always endeavoured to never write the same thing twice, and I believe he has been remarkably successful. Each creation of his is unique, and each manages to gently open you up, layer by layer, until your basest level of humanity is exposed and you can’t help but be swept up by the beauty he presents you. So far, Ysabel is no exception. Yes, Ysabel is different then Kay’s other novels. It takes place exclusively (so far) in the present time, unlike The Fionavaur Tapestry, which sees people from the present being taken to a fantasy world. Calling All Writers!

I have begun my urgent and energetic quest to publicize Incantations Magazine and attract new talented writers. One of my first efforts is submitting this site at Technorati. Here is my Technorati Profile. I will remain vigilant for opportunities, and will wait patiently for Google and Yahoo! to crawl my site. I have seen great creative potential over at The Fantasy Forum, but forums seem to have something against advertising on their boards So many talented writers… If you have ideas on how to spread the word about Incantations Magazine, please contact me. I appreciate any and all assistance I receive.

Continuing Development

The site is undergoing constant development, and several features are already up and running. This includes the story submission form, so if you have a story ready to go please send it my way! I have decided that the most challenging part of building Incantations Magazine will be attracting the readers and writers that will allow it to survive. There can be no magazine without stories to publish and people to enjoy them. If you know of some sites or forums that lovers of fantasy frequent please either let me know or post a link to this site with a call for readers and writers to contribute. I remain incredibly optimistic and excited about publishing new and wonderful fantasy stories.

The Incantation Begins?

I begin Incan tations Magazine with great hope and zeal and with the desire to provide a quality online fantasy fiction magazine that lovers of the genre can take great pleasure in. Make that a quality FREE online fantasy fiction magazine. Oh, and I’m going to pay the authors too I love fantasy fiction. I love reading it and I love thinking about it. I’ve decided it’s time to do my part in spreading this amazing genre of literature to as many receiving minds as I possibly can. But I can’t do that without material, without stories - YOUR stories. The site will soon be up and running at a sufficient enough level to start accepting fantasy story submissions, and that is where I will count on you, the writer, to fill my inbox with such tales the world has never seen. Until then, keep checking back every once in a while to see my progress…and get writing!
