The Ten Worst U.S. Prosecutors Named: Texas Leads List With Four
2007-08-24 15:05:00
The Ten Worst U.S. Prosecutors Named: Texas Lead s List With FourI started my blog, "Barbara's Journey Toward Justice" after reading "Journey Toward Justice", author Dennis Fritz. Dennis Fritz was wrongfully convicted of rape and murder in Ada, Oklahoma. A vote from a single juror saved him from the death penalty and he was sentenced to life behind bars. His co-defendant, Ronnie Williamson, was sentenced to death.April 15, 1999, both men were exonerated with the help of Barry Scheck and irrefutable DNA evidence. Ronald Williamson was exonerated five days before his scheduled execution. Both Fritz and Williamsom spent 12 tortuous years behind bars. Mr. Williamson died Dec. 4 at age 51, five years after he was freed from prison and nearly seven weeks after being told he had cirrhosis of the liver. Dennis Fritz is now an author and works with The Innocence Project. He enjoys his freedom to the fullest. The book, "The Innocent Man", by author John Grisham, is mainly Ron Williamson's stor...

Tommy Ward Innocent A Message From His Sister
2007-08-23 03:38:00
Tommy Ward 's sister Joice sent me an email along with a comment on my blog, "Barbara's Journey Toward Justice". The email she wrote to me was heartbreaking. She knows her brother Tommy Ward is innocent and has the facts to prove it. Never mind that the police had no real evidence against him, no motive, no prior knowledge of the victim, no crime scene clues, such as fingerprints, blood, semen, hair, saliva, footprints and there was no crime scene. And in spite of the fact that Tommy Ward's dream of the killing has been proven false - and proven false again and again in multiple ways. I guess that means nothing to the court of law and Ada, Oklahoma police. And for the interrogators from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Joice does read my blog, please post any comments or your thoughts to her here. Joice may God Bless you and your family and with His help your brother Tommy Ward and Karl Fontenot will be set free. Here is the story of Tommy Ward and Karl Fontenot for peop...

Ron Williamson 's Words " I Hope I Neither Go To Heaven or Hell"
2007-08-19 03:58:00
Here are Ron William son's words after he was exonerated and released April 1999."I hope I go to neither heaven nor hell. I wish that at the time of my death that I could go to sleep and never wake up and never have a bad dream. Eternal rest, like you've seen on some tombstones, that's what I hope for. Because I don't want to go through the Judgment. I don't want anybody judging me again. ... I asked myself what was the reason for my birth when I was on death row, if I was going to have to go through all that. What was even the reason for my birth? I almost cursed my mother and dad -- it was so bad -- for putting me on this earth. If I had it all to do over again, I wouldn't be born." May his soul rest in eternal peace.Ron Williamson and Dennis FritzBoth Served: 11 years Ron Williamson and Dennis Fritz were exonerated and released in April 1999. My blog, Barbara's Journey Toward Justice has many stories and links dealing with wrongful convictions and the death penalty. But once in awhile I come across some news stories I like to share. "A guilty conscience needs to confess. A work of art is a confession" - Albert Camus. So what do you think ? Is O.J.'s book, excuse me the Goldman's Family book "If I Did It ", his confession?Below are some news items I thought were interesting about O.J. Simpson and the book "If I Did It"First:July 30th a federal bankruptcy judge awarded the rights of O.J. Simpson?s canceled "If I Did It" book to the family of the late Ronald Goldman to satisfy a $38 million wrongful death judgment against the former football star. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge A. Jay Cristol?s decision pushed aside complaints from the family of Simpson?s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, who was slain along with her friend Goldman in a 1994 knife attackWed Aug 1, 2007O.J says ghost author wrote flawed murder accountBy Steve GormanLO...

News anchors always wish us a Good Evening and the end of their news broadcast. I read all of Carrie K.Hutchens articles, but this one I just had to share. You can post comments under the post on my blog Barbara's Journey Toward Justice Here Comments are moderated. Lives Shattered: When the Truth No Longer Matters By Carrie K. Hutchens The madness that is over-taking this world never fails to amaze me! I continue to wonder just how all this is possible. When did we stop being, as a whole, compassionate people with the ability to comprehend and reason? When did that all happen? Is there a cure for the insanity that is devouring us? Mike Nifong, the district attorney from North Carolina, got caught withholding evidence that PROVED the accused were innocent of the charges against them and caught lying to the court. That is spelled, P-R-O-V-E-D and C-A-U-G-H-T! Yet, there are those who are still talking as though the three Duke lacrosse team members (accused of rape) are guilty and that their money simply bought them out of it. Excuse me?!?!? New Yorkers Have Learned We Can Live Without The Death Penalty
2007-08-05 03:02:00
Passage of Yet Another Death Penalty Bill Called CynicalOn July 16, the New York State legislature responded to the tragic death of a police officer shot in the line of duty by passing its third death penalty bill this year. Below is a statement on the Senate?s action by David Kaczynski, Executive Director of New Yorkers Against the Death Penalty.July 16 2007 - ?We join all New Yorkers in grieving for the recent loss of Police Officer Timoshenko, and other officers and troopers who have died in the service of all of us. ?But State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno knows that today?s passage of a death penalty bill all but identical to one passed earlier this year is a cynical and empty gesture that has no chance of becoming law. ?He knows, as New Yorkers have learned, that the death penalty does not represent swift or sure punishment. No one has been executed in New York in 44 years. ?It is unconscionable that Senator Bruno has led his chamber in this cynical exercise without addr...

The Deadline of Innocence
2007-07-27 13:14:00
Great Article From Dakota VoiceThe Deadline of Inno cence By Carrie K. HutchensThere should be no statute of limitations, or deadlines without exceptions, when it comes to proof of innocence. No one should be forced to stay in prison or be executed, simply because the innocence issue wasn't resolved in time. How ridiculous to suggest otherwise, especially when we have a judicial system so broken that the rich guilty (and sometimes even poor guilty) can often walk, while many innocent people have been sent behind bars because they didn't have the means to prove their innocence, or were afraid to take a chance on a trial after being told they would face a harsher sentence, if they fought the charges and didn't win. The latter should never be a part of a system supposedly seeking "justice", but sadly it is. Book Excerpt "Journey Toward Justice" Dennis Fritz Remembers Ronnie William
2007-07-23 00:18:00
Dennis Fritz met Ronnie Williamson July 1981Book excerpt from Dennis Fritz's book "Journey Toward Justice " about that time."I'm more than ready, Ronnie Keith. Let's get out of here and find out where it's happenin'." As we drove past the high-rise dorms, Ronnie said, "Pull over there, Dennie Leon, and let's check that basketball game out." What's the deal? I thought you wanted to check out another club and get some of those pretty babes. Isn't that what you said?" Watching a men's basketball game outdoors was the last thing I wanted to do when there was a possibility of meeting a couple of nice looking gals. But I pulled over and allowed Ronnie his request. Ronnie got out of the car and retrieved his guitar from the backseat. I stayed in the driver's seat and watched as he approached the basketball court. with his guitar strapped around his neck. I was reluctant to join him. I didn't want to interfere with the game. Secondly, all of the players were black and I didn't kn...

Plea Against the Death Penalty
2007-07-18 04:00:00
Look, examine, reflect. You hold capital punishment up as an example. Why? Because of what it teaches. And just what is it that you wish to teach by means of this example? That thou shalt not kill. And how do you teach that "thou shalt not kill"? By killing.I have examined the death penalty under each of its two aspects: as a direct action, and as an indirect one. What does it come down to? Nothing but something horrible and useless, nothing but a way of shedding blood that is called a crime when an individual commits it, but is (sadly) called "justice" when society brings it about. Make no mistake, you lawmakers and judges, in the eyes of God as in those of conscience, what is a crime when individuals do it is no less an offense when society commits the deed.Victor Hugo, Speech at the Constituent Assembly, September 15, 1848

Dennis Fritz started his "Journey Toward Justice" July 2005. July is when he started writing his book "Journey Toward Justice" in which he details his arrest and subsequent imprisonment until his release April 15, 1999. Dennis Fritz was Ron Williamson's friend and co-defendant in the Debra Sue Carter murder case. John Grisham wrote about the case in his book,The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town. Grisham writes about Ron Williamson and his role in the case. He does an excellent job and is a Great Book.Dennis Fritz was close to Ron Williamson, and I am sure Dennis has his own stories about their life and times together.John Grisham announced in 2005 he was going to write a book I decided then that if he could do it so could I", said Dennis Fritz. Jim Brown Justice Denied

My post on Justice Denied June 22th: What I learned since June 22th, is there is a Justice Denied Magazine and Justice Denied Book. You sure learn things fast with a blog. On June 22th I posted a story from Justice Denied Magazine. Readers were asking me if they were affiliated. I never heard of the book Justice Denied, so I did research on it. I did remember I read a story about Kathleen Norman from a Jim Brown website. I left a comment and left the site. Little did I know who Jim Brown was. I was really just interested in Kathleen Norman's amazing story. This is what I read on Jim Brown's radio website about Kathleen:The Innocence Project of New Orleans was discussed on Wednesday?s show, and my guest was the Chairman of the Board, Kathleen Norman. Kathleen was actually the foreperson of a jury that convicted and sentenced an innocent man to death. Later, when confronted with evidence of his innocence that had been in possession of the FBI and withheld form the defense, she becam...
Justice Denied Prosecutors Are Master Framers Cases of Wrongful Conviction
2007-06-23 01:35:00
I just read an interesting story from Justice Denied,The magazine for the Wrongful Convicted and thought it was a story worth sharing with my readers.Justice:Denied magazine publicizes cases of wrongful conviction, and exposes how and why they occur. Justice:Denied is produced by a team of volunteer writers, editors and other staff persons located throughout the United States.See below for contact information. Here is the story:Prosecutors Are Mast er Frame rs By Hans SherrerWatching movies and television shows for decades has conditioned us to have the Pavlovian response of thinking that police are the culprits when people are framed. So it was that instead of presenting us with a new idea, the internationally televised O. J. Simpson trial was a real-life affirmation that police plant evidence, falsify reports and commit perjury in court. The opinion of many people that in O. J.'s case the police worked hard to frame a guilty man doesn't change what they did. It just emphasizes that ...

With the attendees of 36,000, almost 2,000 publishers, 1,262 authors and 3,400 librarians the convention floor of the Javits Center was extremely crowed! Who would believe you would bump into old friends. On Sat. June 2, while Dennis Fritz and I were walking down the isles to get some lunch, we heard "Dennis Fritz is that you?". He heard that called a dozen of times since his appearance on Dateline last May 22, while at the book expo. Many people started a conversation with Dennis which ended with him giving them a signed copy of his book. This time was different. He heard the voice and did not know where it was coming from. This one isle we were walking down had over 100 people going in both directions, carrying loads of books. The crowd was very friendly, and there were people from all over the world. I heard the word excuse me in many languages, (at least to my limited , basic knowledge of languages) I believe, were excuse me. The mystery ended when 2 arms reached out from the cro...
