Rock Band drum pedal problem turned mod
2008-01-03 18:26:00
Like many fellow drummers I was eagerly awaiting the release of Rock Band because it had a drum set. Santa knew my thirst for rock drumming needed to be quenched and brought our household Rock Band . The first thing I can tell you is that it is crack. Do not obtain Rock Band if you do not have the discipline to return to your real life. Less than a week after my prayers were answered I was plunged into the depths of hell after my guitarist decided to give the drums a whirl. He left me with a broken Rock Band drum pedal. I am specific to say Rock Band drum pedal because you can’t replace it with a normal drum pedal, at least not without modifying it, which is exactly what I decided to do. Not only that, I decided to take step by step photos to create a resource for the other Rock Banders out there that may have suffered the same problem as I. If you have a working Rock Band drum pedal, I do not advise taking on this project because if you don’t get it right then you are ou...

2007-12-07 00:11:00
I’ve been consulting with Jive Software for the past couple of months now developing a program for leveraging their blog, JiveTalks, which is why my posting here has been a little sparse as of late. A big issue we’re working through is content production. There are questions about editorial calendars, who should be the authors, ...

Can you imagine the backside of Google?
2007-11-02 19:43:00
I don’t know if you’ve ever looked at the Google Zeitgeist before, but it’s a pretty cool page. Every year Google publishes a year-end report of trends in search terms that resulted from occurrences that year. In 2005, for example, the top searches were:

What would you like to see from Advanced Operators?
2007-10-02 17:40:00
For almost a couple of months now I’ve been posting weekly questions on Advanced Operators about the web development industry. I’m a bit of a heady geek, so sometimes the topics that are of interest to me are a little esoteric or just too meaty for more popular discussion. At the same time, I don’t ...

Advertisers have been aware for some time that a mixture of media increases the effectiveness of a campaign. It’s also relatively old news that an advertiser will see better results if the messages are connected across media. An interview with Marshall Kirkpatrick
2007-09-21 16:00:00
Marshall Kirkpatrick speaking at BarCamp Portland 2007 (photo by Josh Bancroft) Marshall Kirkpatrick used to kick my ass in Lincoln-Douglas Values Debate back in high school. While I used to hate to compete against him, I loved talking geeky with him. At that time we discussed categorical imperatives, social contracts, and the state of nature. A ...

The future of music
2007-09-13 01:58:00
For nearly a hundred years the music industry has largely been financially supported by selling recordings of music on physical media. For almost 10 years now, that model has been eroding. Google isn?t going anywhere anytime soon
2007-08-30 00:53:00
Earlier this week Robert Scoble said Googl e will be beaten by Mahalo, TechMeme, and Facebook in four years. While I don’t think Google will be beaten by anybody in four years, I do think his underlying thought has merit. When people want to know more about a subject, simply returning an algorithmically order list of ...

Sometimes when I use the term Web 2.0 with someone unfamiliar with the term, they’ll ask what is Web 3 .0? I posted a few months ago about what I think the next iteration of the web will be, and I didn’t think we’d call it Web 3.0. I speculated that we’d call it the Rich ...
