Affiliate Summit a great Success for Qoof

Richard, Jon, & Hillel just came back from an amazing trip mostly in Vegas, San Francisco, & NY. Overall the trip was a big success for the company. They had meetings with VC's, Angels, & Clients as well as a booth at the Affiliate Summit West show at the Rio in Las Vegas. The look and feel of the booth was perfect. Thanks to Yoel and Hillel for getting the job done on time. And to Richardson Graphics for the perfect printing job. You can see more shots of the booth at Richards Site Here. On the second day of the show, Jonathan held an "Ask An Expert" session on "Leveraging Video to Boost you Affiliate Program". Over at the "Affiliate Program Advice" blog they stated that Jon's table was one of the 3 most attended. Those that were there said that Jon was on Fire! So many great things happened in Silicon Valley this past week and all of them good! Over the next couple of days we will try and post whatever we can. First and foremore a HUGE thank you to Shuly Galili and the rest of the California Israel Chamber of Commerce for putting together such an amazing program. They did a fantastic job and really set-us up to meet with Tier 1 players in the Valley. We can't thank you enough for all your hard work! Secondly, one of the things we enjoyed most was meeting the other 14 presenting companies. So many great ideas out there and so many exciting entrepreneurs. Today is my 9th wedding anniversary celebrating the absolute best day of my life. No one has supported me more then my wife in all my crazy entrepreneurial endeavors. It is not easy being a wife to an entrepreneur and it’s even harder to being supportive to an entrepreneur who is trying to make his dreams and passions come true. Most wives like the steady pay check and the consistent jobs, my wife just likes me. Today is my first wedding anniversary that I will not be spending with my wife. I am in Silicon Valley on the Israel Web Tour, and my wife is home taking care of our 4 beautiful angels in Israel. Being away from family is one of the toughest challenges for a founder of a start-up, being away from your wife on your anniversary just sucks. But that is the nature of the Start-up beast and she told me that she would not have it any other way. The Week Ahead - Going to Silicon Valley

Things have been very exciting in Qoof land this past month and looking even more exciting in the month to come! We have hired 4 new employees to the company, each one is a real gem. This week Jon and Hillel was/are in New York, Seattle, Virginia, New Jersey and New York again meeting with some old clients, new clients and some very prestigious VC's and private investors. Saturday night Richard is flying to Los Angeles (Can't wait to meet his nephew Noah for the first time) and then San Francisco for the Israel Web Tour where Richard will also for the first time miss being with his wife on his wedding anniversary. Hillel will be joining him in CA while Jon is continuing his deal brokering. Jon will be flying back to Israel on Monday night and Richard and Hillel the following week after the tour. Israel Web Tour - Qoof was Chosen as 1 of 15 Israeli Start-ups

Very exciting news for Qoof. We have been chosen as one of fifteen Israel i Start -ups to participate in the Israel Web Tour .The Israel Web Tour is the first Internet competition organized to bring 15 Israeli startups to Silicon Valley. CEO's of the chosen companies will be flown to the US for exclusive meetings with the Valley's hot startups, VC's and potential partners. The Tour will also include a Public Showcase and culminate in an evening soiree.We are super excited to have been chosen and we wish congratulations to our fellow Israeli start-ups that we chosen as well. It is going to be a very exciting week for us. We will be meeting with some of the largest companies in Silicon Valley such as Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, & Facebook; as well as meet with both Private Investors and large VC's. So we just came back from our first meeting with Google in their offices in Tel-Aviv. We had a great meeting that lasted about an hour. The culture in the office was very much how we pictured Google would be and we look forward to our meeting at Google Headquarters in Mountain View in 2 weeks. One thing we liked about the meeting was that this was the first meeting we had that no one asked us "Aren't you afraid of Google?". Instead they mentioned to us a certain company in Redmond that will remain nameless. The second thing that occurred to us is that if Google were to merge with Qoof, then the company would probably be renamed Qoogle.

Great reason to celebrate! Our newest employee, Netanel Livni, started his first day of work yesterday at Qoof headquarters as Senior Developer. The only problem is that on his very first day of work he left early as his wife went into labor! Congratulations to Nati on the birth of a baby girl last night! Both Mommy and Baby are doing well. Now, when it comes to naming the baby, I think "Qoofy" would make a great name for a baby girl.

"H" as in Hitler?

Ok, so Hillel calls a potential out sourcing company to see about hiring some developers for a project. They have a CA base office and the number we called reached a person from India. Since it was 2:00am CA time, we figued it was someone from their office in India. In anycase the person who answered had a very thick accent and it was hard to understand him. When we finally got to quoting the project Hillel asked if he could send it to him by Email. So he asked what his Email address was. So Hillel gave him the adress and the guy starts spelling it back to him to make sure he has it right and he said and I quote "H as in Hitler ?" Now Hillel was too shocked and just finished the conversation. Now I don't have to many Indian friends or associates, but is Hitler a common Indian name? Perhaps he could have used a couple of more common "H" words like: House Home Horse Heck,even Hell would have been better.

The need for innovation with online video

One of the things I spoke about at the recent Video On the Net show in Boston was the need for innovation with online video. The whole "Video Advertising" industry is based on one thing, "What is the best/least way to upset a viewer’s experience". The host on the panel, Anton Denissov, Analyst, Yankee Group, mentioned that there are 4 ways to monetize video now. 1. Advertising (which I call the necessary evil) 2. Sell-Through - This is Qoof's focus 3. Subscriptions 4. On Demand/Rentals I believe the industry is too focused on #1 and there is not enough innovation on the others. In addition I believe that in the next 12 - 24 months we will see the list of 4 grow to a list of 12. The innovators that come up with new ways to monetize video will have the greatest chance of success. It is time to start thinking outside the "advertising TV Box". Come on guys! Let’s get innovative!

Check out our new site dedicated to our own Studio. At Qoof, we realized early on that companies would need better quality videos then just User Generated videos. So we have opened our own studio in Los Angeles a couple of months ago and have already shot commercials for DrugStore.com and we are in production now for a few videos for the Dish Network with more on the way. Things are going very well in Qoofland. Jon is in the states visiting companies and investors in Montreal, NY, NJ and is now in California. We are a week or so away from launching code name "QoofTube" where we will allow you to upload a video from YouTube and link it to a product page. We are also getting closer to launching our eBay video app code names Qoofbay where we will allow you to upload a video from your Qoof account directly into your ebay ad. Ladies and Gentlemen, we have “Proof of Concept”

Ahh… The words every start-up is waiting to hear. From the time the idea is hatched to raising your first $10k to hiring or finding partners, you never really know if what you have is worth something until you reach the “Proof of Concept” stage and that is the stage I am very happy to say Qoof is at.  It has been a long ride so far and it is extremely satisfying to have gotten to this stage. We started doing limited testing of both our main website at qoof.com as well as our widget on other peoples sites and the results of our testing have been very positive and shows that our video commerce platform works, and works very well! Stay tuned as there will be a lot more to come in the near future.

Always love to find websites and blogs that give Qoof a mention. Check out the posting on NewTeeVee called "Here comes the YouTubes for Ads". Now although there are some aspects of what we are doing is similar to YouTube for ads, we do not see our videos as advertisements as much as we see them as video reviews and product demonstrations, but will take whatever we can get :) And oh yeah, we think Usermercials is a much cooler word then Usertising.

Recently, I’ve been noticing a trend. In fairness, this might not actually be surprising to anyone other than me, but this trend I’ve noticed, I’ve noticed it because I started tracking my affiliate links lately. I know, I should always be tracking and testing, but I’m not too tech savvy and I just figured out an easy way to do it. So the trend that I noticed is something pretty logical. My affiliate links that are long-looking aren’t clicked as much as the shorter-looking ones. To be fair (again), I knew this trend existed. I used to use tinyurl to hide my affiliate links, but I’ve recently found that the clicks on those links have been dropping dramatically. I spent a good couple days testing different solutions to my affiliate link problem and I’m proud to say that I’m no smarter than when I started.
