Google admits they can read Flash Animations
2008-01-08 20:56:00 Matt Cutts admitted last month that Google has begun using the Adobe’s Flash search devkit, a product Adobe provided to search engines to help them read Flash animations. Since they also make Flash, it behooves them to provide another reason for developers to use Flash, of course. And it is nice to know that Google has ... More About: Read , Animations , Imation

Google News: Filtering out press releases?
2008-01-08 00:18:00 We do a fair amount of electronic press releasing here. It’s a great way to both build inbound links as well as spread the word about a client. There are several companies that offer them, each with their own pricing models, and pluses and minuses. But I’ve noticed something odd the last month or so with ... Looksmart Click Fraud Settlement (At least someone was clicking!)
2007-12-29 16:11:00 I received a message from LookSmart today informing me that I was eligible for credits as part of their click fraud settlement. Since we did do some advertising with LookSmart about a year ago, I suppose we’re technically victims. As I remember, the campaign got very few clicks, and had a conversion rate of approximately ... 2007-12-27 15:12:00 A question was asked recently in the office about how to measure podcasts. While determining value and impact of this tactic is not the easiest by any stretch, here goes in order of importance: Entire Audience Count - how many people subscribe to your podcast via RSS Complete Downloads - how many people downloaded the entire podcast Complete ... Maricopa Chamber of Commerce - LIVE
2007-12-18 18:43:00 I spent an enjoyable evening on Monday presenting some Internet marketing thoughts to the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce . Great facility, including a full drum kit (which I sadly did not incorporate into my remarks). Presentation can be downloaded here, for Maricopa Chamber of Commerce members and others out there in the small/medium sized business category that ... More About: Live , Arico

2007-12-18 02:10:00 When you search for your site, does it sometimes look like this? Those extra links at the bottom are Google ’s Sitelinks. Basically, as Google sees that your site is getting more and more traffic, they put up extra links to other parts of your website that they feel visitors will find handy, giving them the opton ...

Now THAT is what I call Link Bait!
2007-12-13 01:33:00 I have created my own online city - it is called Mathmagic Land, for two reasons: I’ve always loved that Donald Duck short from grade school, and I’s an opportunity to make Disney really, really mad - and that’s always a good thing. This comes courtesy of a site called MyMiniCity, and the concept is simple yet freakishly ... More About: Social Networking , Link , Call
Marketing firms, RSS and Google?s next big criterion
2007-12-11 18:16:00 While doing my regular link marketing duties this morning, I noticed something. I should have noticed it before, of course. When you work for a marketing firm that creates links for clients, you spend a lot of time trolling sites ? and you see more spam sites in a working day than other people do. ... Writing for the Web: Content Usability or Customer Conversion?
2007-12-10 20:54:00 Last week I attended a Content Usability seminar at the Nielsen Norman Group’s User Experience 2007 conference in Las Vegas. Designed for “anyone tasked with writing, editing or managing content for a website or Web application,” the day-long tutorial centered on how appropriate, intuitive and easy-to-follow writing can increase Web site usability ? ... AIM now available through Gmail
2007-12-06 23:09:00 A neat new feature I saw when I logged into my Gmail account today - you can now chat with your AIM contacts through the Gtalk function of Gmail. While it is a handy way to use chat on computers that aren’t yours, its also a funny response to my favorite chat application Trillian. Trillian will ...
Facebook apologizes for Beacon
2007-12-05 23:37:00 Brian A. sent me this blog post from Facebook and I thought it was really interesting. I have to admit, there’s been a bit of Facebook slamming on here in the last month - not all of it undeserved, but you hate to beat a horse to death. So I do want to start by saying ... Blogs - The Onion tells it like it is
2007-11-28 17:40:00 Michael at TechCrunch caught this Onion story, which really is telling about why blogs really aren’t as great as everyone says. I mean, WE’RE great, but then we don’t have reams and reams of digital posts about our breakups, childhood memories, and that, “really trippy dream” we had last night. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong ... More About: Social Networking , Blogs , The Onion , Tells
Bizzare Google Request
2007-11-26 18:48:00 This is a great story a friend of mine just sent me. There’s really nothing else to say about it - except that, when you make demands of a complete stranger on the Net, don’t be surprised if it gets famous. (This person’s just lucky Dean was willing to edit out their name and site!) More About: Google , Bizzare , Request
Why Gtalk can?t catch up with AIM or Yahoo! Messanger
2007-11-23 05:43:00 Lately I?ve been thinking a lot about Google’s chat program Gtalk . You do that when you don?t have any pesky ?life? to get in the way of things. What I?ve been thinking about is how this service just cannot seem to catch up with the two heavy hitters of online chat: AOL Instant Mess enger and ... More About: Yahoo , Catch , Yahoo!
Facebook Advertising Trouble
2007-11-12 17:57:00 There may be a snag in Facebook ’s new advertising scheme, one involving people essentially choosing which ads they run on their own profiles. (Read the article here.) In short, the problem is that in New York you have to give specific, written consent to have your image used on an advertisement, and since your placing an ad on your Facebook page would turn it into one, you’d need to submit written approval. The fact of the matter, though, is that the law is literally 100 years old. This kind of challenge may wind up further reducing an individual’s protection, as the argument is made that Written with a capital W consent is no longer necessary. Existing online doesn’t allow for paper documents with signatures. I hope that’s not the case, but it is an inevitable outcome, whatever starts it. After all, there was also once upon a time a law that said an individual’s social security number could only be used for social security. The law was specifical... More About: Advertising , Vert
Facebook launches ?personalized? advertising
2007-11-07 20:08:00 Yesterday Facebook announced they would start a plan to run ads on their users’ pages, based on products they themselves have bought or reviewed. (Read the story here.) The brilliance of this idea is in getting people to not think of advertising like advertising. Rather than being an annoyance to be gotten around, (thanks, Myspace!) Facebook ... Funny Internet Jokes and Viral Content
2007-11-05 20:33:00 There’s no real lesson behind this post - aside from a sort of explanation of just what viral content is. If you haven’t experienced the power and the majesty of Tuscan Whole Milk before now, and more importantly its product reviews, then you are in for a treat. I found this magical jem several years ago, ... More About: Jokes , Funny , Internet , Trends , Viral
Phoenix SEMPO Meeting hosted by Mighty Interactive
2007-11-02 22:10:00 Last night, Mighty Interactive hosted this month’s SEMPO meeting. In case you aren’t aware, SEMPO stands for, “Search Engine Marketers Professional Organization.” At any rate, there was some discussion regarding Social Marketing, and one point that stuck out for me: Most search marketers, like myself, are always on the lookout for how to make money from ... Paid Links: Just Don?t Do It
2007-10-30 18:49:00 For years, Google has been trying to thwart efforts by those who purchase paid links to increase their search engine rankings. Short of manually determining which links are paid and which are not, Google hasn’t yet developed a system to discount and/or ignore ALL paid links. The one way to tell if a paid link ... Wikipedia?s Cross Country Move
More articles from this author:2007-10-12 19:50:00 Wikipedia announced recently that they are moving all operations from St. Petersburg, Florida to the high-tech capital of America: San Francisco. According to Wikimedia Foundation chair, Florence Devouard, the move gives “access to a rich array of resources.” Does this mean anything for search marketers? Not really, but let’s take a look at this ... More About: Country , Cross , Wikipedia , Move , Cross Country 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
