National Assn. for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) may be the second-highest rated sport on television, but from a Marketer 's stand point, I'm a huge fan of the marketing gold mine it has become. NASCAR has one of the most visually appealing array of colorful advertising in one spot than any other median I've seen. Consider the exposure for a second. Dozens of sponsors displaying hundreds of colorful graphics to thousands of NASCAR fans that happen to be circled around the marketing heaven called the track. Then throw in the cameras and it's a view for the world to see, logos and slogans holding the attention of millions as they travel at 180 miles an hour. Now with a nine-month season that adds up to a lot of exposure.The marketing has only just begun with the actual cars wrapped in advertising. Look at the uniforms, pit crew, billboards, and TV cams. Crude Video Remix Gets National Exposure - For Free!

Without getting into the politics of it, I can't help but get a little impressed when a little marketing scheme takes hold and gets national attention. This morning while sipping coffee and going over my emails I watched ABC report on an unknown person that made a video remix of the now famous '84 Super Bowl Apple Computer's commercial. The ad has been showing on YouTube since March 6th and at the time of this post has been watched well over 365,000 times. The poster, xxxgrimREAPERx, only had this to say on the page;"Vote for a change!I'm just an Obama supporter.I did not create this video. Thanks."According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Obama campaign claims it had nothing to do with the video. Whether it did or not, I say it's a huge success in the business world. Bad Customer Service Sets You Apart... From Profits

Customer Service has always been a big issue with me. I may be a little more picky than some but when I want to reach a business I would like to do it without spending an entire week of leaving messages and sending emails. That's why I try my best to make myself available.What got me thinking about this topic again was two different situations that happened over the last week.The first was a fast food restaurant. I was stopping by a client's office and we were going to work through lunch. He asked me to grab lunch from a particular fast food restaurant on the way over. I've been to this restaurant before and I know they can be very slow so I decided to call ahead and place my order. I was told on the phone I could not order ahead unless I spent at least $50.00.
