Using Twitter
2008-05-21 17:25:00
More than 2000 people a day sign up for Twitter accounts. Why? Well, Twitter has become genuinely useful. Dell Computer say that they have sold $500,000 worth of computer equipment via Twitter - by offering discounts and specials. There’s a great guide at Marketing Sherpa about building your business brand and/or your personal brand with ...

Should You Put Your Keywords In The Name Field When You Comment?
2008-05-11 17:17:00
There’s an interesting discussion going on at Problogger: Should you add Keyword s to the Name Field when you Leave Comments on a Blog? Some people get really upset about this. I can understand why - keywords in the name field do look spammy. But my feeling is - as long as they’re commenting, I don’t really ...

The Persuaders
2008-04-11 23:15:00
I was thinking about persuasion, in the context of “How do I persuade more people to take advantage of my free membership at SqueezePageDossier.com?” Then I remembered the cheezy 1970’s TV series, “The Persuaders”. I spent many happy hours watching Roger Moore and Tony Curtis beating up bad guys. Of course, this was before 1976, ...

Moving Towards Business Ownership
2008-04-03 00:22:00
Richard Lee has a great post on his blog about task responsibility. As you move towards outsourcing every process in your business, your personal involvement becomes less and less necessary. Eventually, you become a business owner, by Robert Kiyosaki’s definition - you can leave your business completely for a year and get back to find ...

How to Become A Bum Marketing Genius
2008-03-05 15:11:00
If you don’t know what Bum Marketing is, you must have been hiding under a rock. It’s basically a new name for article marketing, except that instead of including a link back to your own website, bum marketers put in a link to an affiliate sales page. There are some skills involved - the main ...

Domain Names and Hosting
2008-02-29 11:18:00
When I first started tinkering with the Internet, about 10 years ago, I did what every South African does, and signed up for a domain name and hosting with my ISP. I soon realised that this was less than ideal - what if I wanted to change ISPs? I’ve been through about 5 of them, ...

A Cataclysmic Event in the History of the Internet.
2008-02-28 16:02:00
Qassia is a new social networking site, brought to my attention by Jack Humphrey. Qassia describes itself as “a credit-driven intelligence engine coupled to a cascading tag-based web directory.” You can add your websites, and promote them by adding what Qassia calls ‘intel’. Intel is anything from a paragraph of text to an academic ...

Competition for ClickBank
2008-02-12 07:37:00
It looks as if ClickBank has some decent competition, at last. I’ve never thought much of PayDotCom, mainly because of its reliance on Paypal for payments to merchants (South Africans still can’t receive payments via Paypal…) Don’t get me wrong, ClickBank is pretty good. But there are a couple of areas where their system is less than ideal. Firstly, that $50 setup fee. Secondly, the fact that they don’t allow the sale of physical products. Come to think of it, there are quite a few things that I don’t like about ClickBank. Click2Sell looks as if it may be what I’ve been waiting for. Here are some of the more interesting features: Click2Sell allows you to sell physical, downloadable and subscription products. There’s a wide range of payment options, including Paypal, Authorise.net and WorldPay. There’s no setup fee. You don’t have to wait for your sales page to be pre-approved. No restrictions on product price. Actually,...

Long term vs short term goals
2008-02-10 18:31:00
When I read Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad, Poor Dad a couple of years ago, one of the key points that stuck in my mind was the necessity of creating assets. Kiyosaki defines an asset as anything that puts money in your pocket. By his definition, a luxury car is not an asset, it’s a liability. The house you live in is not an asset, it’s a liability. These items cost you money every month. Of course, if you don’t own a house, you’d probably be paying rent - definitely a liability. Real assets are things like rental properties, stocks which pay dividends, book author rights or music rights which pay royalties. The great thing about assets - real assets, in the Kiyosaki sense - is that you only have to do the work once. Barring the unexpected, they’ll keep on making money, without your involvement. There are ways of making money quickly, but most of these require your continual, on-going involvement. A job is a good example. You can make a fixed amount o...

Time For A Change
2008-02-01 16:28:00
It’s a new month, and that’s a good excuse for a bit of a change in the way the ol’ blog looks. I’ve used Cory Miller’s “Clean Copy 2″ theme - if it’s good enough for Michel Fortin and Terry Dean, it sure ought to be good enough for me!. Actually, I had to tweak ...

How Blogging Regularly Can Increase Your Traffic
