Yahoo Glue Pages ? Another Version of Universal Search

Yahoo has launched Glue Pages Beta in India.Glue Pages are specialized pages with enhanced visual search results for selected search queries. Yahoo Glue Pages display classic search results in the left column and more visual results and results from other sources on the middle and right columns. The other section contains results from Image search, You Tube Videos, Yahoo Answers, news and even a section for Google Blog Search results. At times, they also show results from eBay India. The sections on a Glue page actually varies depending on the keyword searched for. A search for Diabetes revealed results from WebMD, HowStuffWorks and Yahoo Groups result as well. A search on Casino showed a section from Wikipedia as well. Wall Street Journal: Yahoo and Google May Become Search Bedfellows

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Yahoo and Google are closer than ever to a deal where Yahoo would outsource their search monetization to Google. Google continues to do a much better job of producing revenue from searches - some estimates suggest that Google gets more than twice Yahoo's revenue per search click.Yahoo also is continuing to negotiate with AOL as part of Yahoo's efforts to stave off a takeover by Microsoft .The Journal suggests that Yahoo's April 22 earnings report may play a key role in the Microsoft takeover argument. Total Number of Search Count Increases in March

The number of searches in the U.S. on the major search engines increased from 9,882 billion in Feb'08 to 10,771 billion in Mar'08 representing a 9% jump. According to comScore, Google sites were the biggest beneficiaries and accounted for more than 6.4 billion core searches, followed by Yahoo sites with 2.3 billion, and Microsoft sites with 1 billion.Google saw a 10% growth compared to March with Yahoo and MSN trailing at 7% and 6% respectively. Ask has seen the maximum growth over its figures in March. A couple staying in Pennsylvania has sued Google over invading their privacy. The couple claims that Google has disturbed their privacy by showing pictures of their home on the ?Street View? website.According to Aaron and Christine Boring?s lawyer, Google entered their private driveway for taking images for its site. The driveway lets one see street-level views of cities from a map.The lawsuit was filed on April 2 in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.The 10 pages long lawsuit states that Boring had bought their home at Franklin Park, a Pittsburgh suburb, in October 2006. Microsoft offers to buy Yahoo for USD 44.6 billion

Technology giant Microsoft Corp said on Friday that it had offered to acquire Internet media company Yahoo Inc for USD 44.6 billion in cash and stock. Microsoft said it had offered to buy Yahoo for USD 31 per share, which it said represented a 62 per cent premium above the company's closing stock price on Nasdaq on Thursday. "We have great respect for Yahoo, and together we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online services market," Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said in a statement. Yahoo was not immediately available for comment. Microsoft said it had identified four areas that would generate at least USD 1 billion in annual synergies for the combined entity. Google has been doing this for a long time in Blog Search but I have never seen this before on the main Google search. Google is listing results in accordance to time line and it also gives user the option to view results from their choice of time line. The picture below makes it clear.Also, I noticed that this feature is not available for all searches. Ask.com Launches AskEraser to Address Privacy Issues

Ask.com has introduced AskEraser today giving searchers the ability to search anonymously. Ask announced this feature in July and now it is finally aailable for all users.When a searcher activates the AskEraser, Ask will stop recording the searchers queries and cookie information. This includes the users IP address, user id, session id and the search query. Google Integrates AIM into Gmail

Google has integrated AOL's popular instant messaging service, AIM, into Gmail . The new feature will enable users access their AIM account on their Gmail Web page. Users can also have instant message conversations with their AIM buddies on Gmail.They need to simply click on the upside-down triangle next to "set status here" in Gmail chat, and select "Sign into AIM" from the drop down menu. Once AIM log-in information is entered, AIM contacts would appear intermingled with Gmail contacts, and the user can select an AIM contact and start chatting directly. As of now, only the English version of the new feature is being rolled-out. But soon, AIM access will be made available in other language versions as well.
