Snap Shots to show advertisements and share revenues

Snap Shots has been hugely popular and can be seen on several websites now. Today I received an email from Snap mentioning that all popups would now have advertisements shown. Rather than coming up with their own ad serving technology, they have partnered with Google and will be showing AdSense advertisements. Just not that, the benefit for bloggers and website administrators is that they are going to share revenues as well. You need to “migrate” your Snap account and activate “Snap Share s”. You will need to provide your AdSense Publisher Id so that you get paid for advertisements shown. I am not sure what the revenue sharing model is going to be like, but this is yet another method now to make money online. Nice going Snap! Do you know when you have a server outage?

On November 12, 2007 Rackspace had an outage and many popular websites were inaccessible for about 3 hours. Sites like 37Signals were down, amongst many others high traffic websites. Web news was full of their stories (Refer TechCrunch, and Slashdot as two examples) for a day talking about what really went wrong. At the end of the day it turned out to be that two chillers within the data center failed to start back up, and a number of servers were taken offline to avoid damage from overheating. Many times website owners never realize the true extent of all the downtime their website experiences. With an ecommerce website or an advertisement supported website, this downtime means lost revenue and worse yet, lost customers. Online Presence is currently hosted on a virtual hosted server and not on a managed server since the traffic load is not extremely high yet, but I would still feel the pinch and loss of revenue if there was downtime. Geo-target your ads for maximum returns

This morning I wrote about the disappointing news this week from AdSense and WidgetBucks. I spent some time thinking through a simplistic solution to get geo-targeted advertisements to improve RPC, especially for WidgetBucks. One approach could be to have OpenAds installed on the server. But this is complicated to setup and not a solution that every blogger will be able to adopt. So what next? I came across a tutorial at 999 Tutorials, which was simple and worked like a charm. I had it up and running in 10 minutes on one of my sites and its already serving out ads based on US Vs Non-US Traffic. To get this to work, you will need to have your own domain and you should be a bit comfortable using PHP. Changes that may impact your online earnings

This week seems to have had several disappointing announcements for bloggers. Google AdSense changed it click zones which will surely drop earnings and WidgetBucks announced that they will stop paying for clicks from non-US traffic. Talk about dealing with bad news! I’ve written a fair bit about WidgetBucks since it was launched, but this month my earnings have significantly dropped. In fact, daily earnings are down by as much as 75% compared to October. I logged into SponsoredReviews today and noticed that they had launched an Affiliate Program . I’m not sure if this is something that was launched recently or has been around for a while. If you refer an advertiser, you earn up to $175 per advertiser. If you refer a blogger, you earn $5 the moment one of their blogs get approved. The improvements with WidgetBucks just continues… If you have a look at the “My Widgets” page in WidgetBucks you will see something like this below: Its great to see earnings from referrals being reported regularly now rather than once at the end of the month. This will give us more clarity in terms of what are potential earnings for the month is going to be like. Notice the “+” sign on the left of the image. Online Presence now powered by a new theme!

I had mentioned towards the end of October about a new theme for Online Presence . Well, as you can see, its now “live!”. There might still be some glitches here and there, but most features that I wanted to include have already been activated. One of the feedback that I had received for my previous theme was that its too “white”! That was one aspect I worked upon in this new “V2″ theme. Besides the theme migration, I have also migrated to Word Press 2.3.1. Along with that, I’ve upgraded to the latest versions of all the plugins, thanks to the notifications from the WordPress Admin panel. I did notice some plugins not mentioning the latest versions, even though their respective websites had a new release. I guess there are still some glitches to be ironed out with regard to this. IZEA to launch SocialSpark in Jan ?08

IZEA, the parent company of PayPerPost, will be launching a social networking site focused around bloggers and advertisers in January 2008. The site, called SocialSpark, was announced recently at PostieCon. The website is currently in “invitation only alpha”. WidgetBucks announces 1st month earnings report

WidgetBucks has posted the first month of earnings for publishers under “My Bucks”. Do go and have a look at it, if you haven’t done so already. I’ve been a supporter of WidgetBucks since it was launched. It seems to be a very encouraging system and the payouts are one of the best I’ve seen off late; better than AdSense in my case. The first report includes the signup bonus of $25 and earnings from referrals. You make 10% of the amount your referrals make for one year but the referral amount was quite low in my case. This month though, I’ve seen a decrease in the amount paid per click. I just read the same thing reported by Darren Rowse at his blog. Smorty, a competitor to PayPerPost, has launched its referral program. The referral amount is not a one time payment.You earn 5% commission of the total payments made to your referred blogger. This is ongoing, so you will earn commission for the life of your referred blogger. These payments will be added each week to your normal approved posts payment. The payments will only be paid if your referred bloggers post gets approved. This is an interesting development. Lets hope Smorty can draw in more advertisers into their network. $65,000 in one year!

Well…the title is kind of catchy isn’t it! That’s my target figure to make in one year from my “Make Money Online” Activities. Its might be a very small figure for the big time bloggers, but I’m sure when they started off, they had small targets like these in mind. These are just milestones for me and I have to keep working and building on it. So, is that how much I want to make from Online Presence? Not quite. That’s from my entire network of sites. Its a small set of 5 websites in different niche areas currently and I have a few other websites up my sleeve which I would be launching by the year-end. How am I doing with respect to that target? Hmm…money is something I have never really discussed on this blog since I have been against it, but I’m changing the rule! I’m currently at 30% of that target in just 8 months.
