Secure your blog from attacks
2007-10-31 22:30:00
I was pleasantly surprised to know that there is a blog named Blog Security that focuses on exactly how the domain is titled. This is truly a blog focusing on a niche area that very few can write about on a regular basis. The next best thing was to find a whitepaper on how to secure a WordPress installation. The 10 page whitepaper in PDF format is currently at “Version 1.1″ and covers everything from MySQL settings, directory settings, and must have WordPress plugins to enhance the security of your blog. I would recommend this whitepaper as a MUST READ. Share This © 2007 Anuj Seth

The Best of Online Presence in October ?07
2007-10-31 19:30:00
Its the beginning of the month and its time for the customary roundup of the top 3 popular posts from the previous month. In the month of October ‘07 the Top 3 most popular posts in Online Presence were: In October, I introduced two new advertising services on this blog, namely, WidgetBucks and TNX. WidgetBucks uses Flash-based ads and will surely be quite successful on product specific blogs. TNX on the other hand a text link advertisement service which uses a very different model from the popular Text-Link-Ads. To be honest, I wrote about a 3rd advertising network as well — ADS-click. They have some very unique ad widgets. I have been experimenting with their “tag cloud” ad widget on this blog. As it can be seen, the theme of October ‘07 can clearly be summarized as “Advertisement Networks”. Keeping this in context, I’ll remind all of you about the post from yesterday on Kontera. Kontera is an inline text advertisement service and...

Some useful links for the day: Mashable has an article on AdBrite serving advertisements for Facebook applications. This gives Facebook app developers a new option for monetizing their efforts. I came across an article on “Gray Googlers“, older people who are earning sizable income from AdSense. Very interesting indeed! Microsoft’s answer to Google Analytics is called Project Gatineau and is now in Private Beta for US users. Get your invite here. DownloadSquad has an article on Disqus which helps you manage your blog comments. It seems interesting as per what is mentioned on DownloadSquad. I did visit the Disqus website only to keep getting “Oops, that wasn’t supposed to happen.” errors! Share This © 2007 Anuj Seth

What is your page strength?
2007-10-30 15:30:00
SEOmoz has a tool called “Page Strength” which many use to determine the “strength” of a page, or is ability to derive cash for advertisements! The data isn’t something that is out of the blue, but it is a very nice consolidation of metrics that one would otherwise obtain from multiple websites. Check it out… Share This © 2007 Anuj Seth
Make money using Kontera ContentLink
2007-10-30 11:37:00
Kontera ContentLink? is a remarkable service that uses contextually relevant keywords discovered in real-time on a web page which are automatically turned into links to the most relevant ads from among Kontera’s thousands of advertisers. With ContentLink publishers generate incremental revenue while advertisers reach their most targeted audience on a Cost-Per-Click basis. I have been using Kontera ContentLink on most of my websites and can vouch with confidence about their service, support, and the wonderful pay checks that you can get month after month! On this blog, all the double underlined links in orange are generated using Kontera ContentLink. If you have not signed up with Kontera yet, do so right away and reap in rich rewards. There are minimum program entry requirements which you can check on their website. Share This © 2007 Anuj Seth

ScratchBack is live!
2007-10-29 11:36:00
Jim Kukral’s long awaited Scratch /Back has been launched. You can see the “Top Sites” widget on the right sidebar of this blog. Its an interesting concept built for “fun” as Jim has mentioned at the ScratchBack blog. Its still in Beta though. The website interface is simple and easy to use. All links created do not pass an “page rank juice” since they are all “nofollow”. This ensure that these links do not come under the category of “selling text links”. I’ve installed it with 10 “spots” available for purchase for just $1.00 per link.  Yes! You heard that right. So go ahead and get into my “Top Sites” widget right away. Share This © 2007 Anuj Seth

WidgetBucks delivers some improvements
2007-10-26 06:44:00
I received this email from WidgetBucks this morning: One of the concerns we’ve heard from many of you has been the slow loading times of our widgets. We really appreciate your feedback and comments in helping us improve in this area. So, today we addressed this issue by rolling out new code that ultimately delivers faster loading widgets. It is very important to note that this update will require action on your part. You will need to update code of your existing widgets for the speedier load times to take affect on your site, blog or network. Know that changing the code will not impact earnings for any of your widgets. Here are the two steps you’ll need to follow: 1. Sign-in to WidgetBucks and go to My Widgets 2. For each active widget, simply edit and re-copy the code block into your site or blog (the same steps you went through when you created the widgets originally) Another option for updating code is to utilize the new categories and ad sizes we’ve incorporate...

Google promotes WidgetBucks instead of AdSense
2007-10-25 11:55:00
You must have read so many posts that Google has ‘banned’ WidgetBucks since WidgetBucks’ website does not show up in the Search results. Well, here is a story that is just the opposite of that. What if I told you that Google prefers you to use WidgetBucks instead of their very own AdSense? Strange….naaah….see this advertisment I saw at BlogCatalog: It just goes on to show that Google does not verify the contents of advertisments that get posted. Someone dared to use their very own program against them Share This © 2007 Anuj Seth

ShoppingAds in Private Beta Testing
2007-10-22 08:11:00
ShoppingAds is yet another program started by Peter Galvin, of Text-Link-Ads. The site, which is currently in private beta testing, has a striking similarity to AuctionAds, which was acquired by him recently. Here is an excerpt from an email I received today from them: Anuj, this is a quick reminder to those of you who haven’t signed up for our cost per click ShoppingAds program (details on how to get in below) and also a heads up to our current users that we have made some significant improvements to our ad units that have helped DOUBLE our click through rates the last two days!  You will notice we added some nice eye catching graphics to the units and a better “call to action”. Our current users are seeing CPC’s in the $.25 range on average and we think we can deliver a great return for your site.  We are ready for you to start running the ads and we offer full international traffic support.  To access the new program: Lets hope they can increase the CPCs b...

No more rush using BlogRush!
2007-10-18 14:12:00
Well…I’ve promoted BlogRush a fair bit on this blog since its launch. Refer: Did you get your BlogRush flavour yet? and BlogRush: Did you get your traffic spike? for two articles on it. Unfortunately, I’ve not really been pleased with its promised claims, and all the so called “shocking” changes they are going to be bringing “soon”. I had a look at the traffic stats, and was quite surprised to see that I have received only 2 visits to Online Presence via clicks on a BlogRush widget this month. How pathetic! As of today, you will notice that Online Presence does not have the BlogRush widget any more on the site. I hope the widget is working better for some of you at least. Bye bye BlogRush… Share This © 2007 Anuj Seth

ADS-click your way to making money
2007-10-15 13:24:00
ADS-click is yet another method for monetizing your blog. This is what they have to say about themselves: ADS-click is an innovative, disruptive company and pioneer in new advertising technologies founded in 2004. The company’s technology is used by major Internet players in Europe, Japan and Australia and represents over 4 billion ads views per month. ADS-click is headquartered in Switzerland. As a publisher you have several options to monetize your website: I am personally evaluating their “best performing keywords” tag cloud. You can see it on the sidebar. Payments are done via Check or PayPal. You can expect a follow-up review of ADS-click in a couple of weeks with more details in terms of their payouts. Share This © 2007 Anuj Seth

Its time for a few useful links for the day: Yaro talks about how he makes over $1500 per month by buying and selling websites. This is indeed an interesting article that is worth reading. Its a completely different avenue on how to make money online. This is one area I’m going to start exploring shortly. Nate mentions about a new concept in WordPress Themes that is slowly catching up. Its a move away from the standard 2 or 3 column themes to “magazine style” themes.  I’ve been working on a new theme myself for Online Presence for a while now and it should be up shortly. ServerDome has an interesting article on the placement of advertisements by top bloggers. Make you really think hard on how you can optimize the placement of ads on your own blog. WidgetBucks: A review after 1 week of usage
2007-10-11 10:15:00
A few days back I did a similar review for TNX, and now its time for WidgetBucks. WidgetBucks provides flash based advertisements that are product centric. These should work very well on product websites. I’ve been evaluating it on YPOPs!, for the last one week and the performance has been quite good so far. In some cases, I’ve replaced AdBrite units with WidgetBucks and the risk of doing so seems to have paid off so far. The payouts are far better than that from AdSense and in most cases even better than Chitika. They still need to iron out some glitches in their reporting system, but that’s all expected during the early beta launch of any new service!! As of today, they have moved to a real-time reporting system, subject to audits. Payments are done via Check or PayPal and for a limited time, they are giving away $25 for those who sign-up. The minimum payout is $50, so you would still need to earn $25 additional before you get the free bonus! Share This ...

Review of TNX.Net after 1 week of usage
2007-10-08 08:30:00
I wrote about TNX.net about a week ago. This is a review of their service after one-week of usage. For those who are not aware, TNX.net is a text link ads service similar to Text-Link-Ads, and LinkWorth, but works in a slightly different model, where you can buy and sell points. I started an advertising campaign using TNX for Online Presence. I’ve placed over 1600 links!! (Yes! you heard it right) for this month on various sites. Each link cost me 1 point. I managed to get 5000 free points using a promotional offer that they were running at DigitalPoint, so it clearly made sense to try it out. One thing that comes straight to my mind about their advertising via their site, is that you can select the PR of pages on which links should be placed, but you cannot select the websites you want them to be placed on! Their system does that randomly. I found a major glitch though, whereby my ads were coming up on another of my own sites. What!!! I’ve reported this bug to their Sup...

How to Rank #1 in Google
2007-10-01 20:30:00
So you want to rank #1 in Google for keywords that best describe your blog or website? Given below is a consolidation of recommendations from a few sources. Don’t buy (or sell) site wide links for serps. Buy links from individual pages. Links from individual pages are far more effective when speaking of improving serps, not PR. Don’t look for high PR links only - start your campaign for a new site with PR 0-1 and slowly move up each week as you see your rankings improve. Control link placement speed. Remember of “Too many links at once” Google filter. Control the number of outbound links on your pages and on pages where you place your links, avoid link-farms, links to gambling, pills, etc. A link from a relevant website is excellent, but a link from a quality site of other niche or other language can also boost your ranking - so don’t ignore such links. Make links look natural. Use different link anchors, promote not only your main page, but your deep ...

First cheque received from Axill India
2007-10-01 19:09:00
About a month and a half back, I had written about Axill. I evaluated this program on one of my network sites, YPOPs!, for the last month. I’m happy to announce that I received the 1st cheque from them today. Do note that they have 3 different programs — Axill India , Axill USA, and Axill UK. TNX.net: The newest text ads kid on the block
2007-10-01 09:46:00
TNX is the latest entrant in the arena of selling text link advertisements. This market is currently dominated by Text Link Ads and LinkWorth . This is what they claim on their website: TNX.net combines the benefits of Contextual Advertising, Text Link Brokers and Relevant Exchange of permanent non-reciprocal text links. TNX introduces some new and unique concepts that can help it differentiate itself from TLA and LinkWorth. A run down is given below. Publishers get “TNX Points” whenever text ads are displayed on their sites. These sites can be redeemed for cash paid via PayPal or can also be used to purchase advertisements. For instance, if you currently have 20,000 points, this is what you can buy: - 20 000 different PR0 pages from different websites - 400 different PR1 pages from different websites - 200 different PR2 pages from different websites - 100 different PR3 pages from different websites - 40 different PR4 pages from different websites - 20 different PR5 pages...
