Ad Tech Day 2: Keynote and The Next Internet Party
2008-04-20 18:01:00
After a night of heavy partying, I manage to get up to day 2 of Ad-Tech and visit the keynote. I was late and I was super tired ? but I made it. The third keynote was what caught my attention the most because the panelists were all kids from age 15-24. The topic of discussion was about the digital age and how it appeals to the 2nd generation. Now a days there are devices which houses a pc, your cell phone, the Internet , your movies, your music, etc. The questions ranged from digital advertising to ads that helped humanity. I do not know if the kids were acting on peers or base on their true desire ? to me some questions would have been answered differently by an average student or kid. One panelists I actually believed in a lot because he was very straight to the point with his answers, especially ads on hulu.com and how Facebook apps are killing the Facebook social communities. Others also speak about games that lead to a better cause such as Free Rice. But some also disagree that ...

Ad Tech Day 1: Keynote and Lap Dances
2008-04-19 17:15:00
The first real day of Ad-Tech was very interesting and educational especially the keynote. The keynote showed a lot of information about our digital age. Jeffrey Hayzlett spoke about Kodak and how they have changed their business model to accommodate the changing economy. How they market and how they approach and what the new brand the consumer sees. Kodak has changed the perception on how consumers view them as and how the consumers see them. They have changed how they are viewed on the Internet as well. Creating social groups and social networks to help with the demand of digital pictures. Kodak has changed base on the growing industry, with more people moving from analog to digital - Kodak adopted. The re-branding has helped consumers recognized Kodak as the new digital printing, photo sharing, low ink toners, etc. Being seen as the gateway to the new era, they want to stay right side by the consumer. This allows them to relate with the average consumer whether it be price, needs...

Overall of San Francisco and Ad:Tech 2008
2008-04-18 20:24:00
The next couple days I will post about what I learned and experience at Ad Tech and San Francisco . I just want o give you an overall experience of how San Francisco was and the general of Ad:Tech. San Francisco is a great place I do not think it is better than Jersey or make this a West vs East thing but it has its good sides. First day it was exciting and exciting, you will see the video below on what I have experienced the first day. Over all it was exciting I got to meet up with Tracking202 CEO Wes Mahler and did not realize my hotel was next to his Mac Mansion (soon to be). So we had a night out and that night there were already pre parties for Ad:Tech, but I was tired from the flight so I didn’t bother with them. I just chilled and learned a lot from Wes that night. Touring San Francisco was amazing - there were a lot of hills and ups and downs, as well as wind! I took the San Francisco experience and took a trolley around town. I met up with Bob and Krystyl and we all t...

Ad-Tech 2008: San Francisco - First Day
2008-04-16 03:09:00
This is crazy let me just say that. This is way bigger and has a lot of more people in the exhibit hall and at the keynote. Ad-Tech is geared towards digital marketing since we are slowly growing towards the digital age. I have taken some pictures on my phone, so if you have been following me via Twitter, you will have probably seen them. The better pictures will be uploaded this weekend or so. Monday there were parties already starting up, a pre-game party before ad-tech. I decided to take that time and meet up with Wes Mahler and look at campaigns and show me how scaling works and how he scales vs how I can improve the way I scale. Also, I have met up with Bob, Ms. Danielle, and John Chow. John Chow is a funny and entertaining guy, he started throwing footballs into the exhibit hall, you will see the videos soon on his blog. I have also met up with my affiliate managers that had booths. I went out to lunch with CPA Empire and some affiliates. It was a great tiring day. The keynote...

Going to Ad-Tech 2008: San Francisco
2008-04-11 19:41:00
After my first real big convention meet up at Affiliate Summit West, I am more eager to go to more conventions and meet ups. I will be attending Ad-Tech 2008 in San Francisco next week. The following week is Web 2.0 Expo, which I will not be attending. I think Ad-Tech will be the last convention before Affiliate Summit East in Boston in which I will be attending. So there will be a delay in posts - I will be posting when I arrive and once I am there. I will be doing the same thing that I did at affiliate summit west: post, twitter, pictures, and videos. I will definitely bring my cameras and make sure I have it in place - I do not want to buy another camera, just in case I forget again - …knocks on wood… I also have never been to San Francisco, so this will be a big experience for me. One of my cousins lives in Daly City; I may meet her as well. I will be there a day early to explore the surroundings or just take a nap after a long tired flight. I am more interested in m...

When Viral Videos Attack
2008-04-11 03:38:00
I found this video about viral videos and how each viral video is ‘competing’ for the top spot. Viral videos are the new wave and a lot of it has to do with catching the attention of people. I thought this video below of South Park shows its full potential on how viral videos are competing to be on the top list on the internet. I have viewed all the videos and one I just never seen. South Park did a perfect re-enactment of the sound and views of each person and character. I wonder if this would really happen in real life, if these viral videos actually met they would destroy each other. You will see a lot of the familiar popular Youtube players such as Star Wars Kid, Afro Ninja, Gopher, Numa Numa, etc. Enjoy Video! *strong graphic violence and use of words Related ContentWhen Viral Videos Attack YouTube as a Promotional Tool?Interview: A TakeOver From Charles TrippyViral Profit Machine Report ReleasedRap Marketer 101Copyright © 2007 IanFernando.com by Ian Fernando...

Earnings Screenshot Kills your Database
2008-04-10 16:52:00
Not too sure what happened the other day when my database just decided to blow up and not produce anything to my readers. Yesterday my blog was bombarded with traffic because of one specific post. Several traffic sources resulted into it and I my database just decided to give up. I was going to update my blog later last night and when I tried to login I had a database issue and I was furious! I immediately called up my hosting provider and asked for immediate help. I swear my service providers’ customer support is so useless - they can not tell me anything except test the domain then create a ticket - WTF! Luckily Twitter was on my side and Nate Whitehill and Shawn Collins came to the rescue. I called up my service provider about 3 times to see what the updates were and what the issues were. Since they were no help, I went to my web logs and tried to see if I was being attacked by a bot from a single IP, Shawn thought I was being hit. Everything looked normal to me and I found...

Grab a Seperate Credit Card for Your Business
2008-04-09 17:43:00
PPC is almost like a rush to me. It keeps me on my toes and I am looking towards my stats at the end of the day. I don’t obsess with my stats but I do anticipate to it when it is time to view them. After realizing my spending and earnings from last month, I decided to go a head and to apply for a separate credit card just for PPC. I have maxed out my personal CC and I can’t run any Adwords campaign right now!! So I have to wait for my direct deposits and checks from several networks, arghh the pain of waiting. This brought a valuable lesson to me, dedicate a credit card to your business. I can honestly say PPC marketing is part of my business model because it is earning me money. Having your own credit card strictly for your business can easily help you grow and being responsible for that dedicated credit card. The fact that I can not market on Adwords is really throwing my whole income source off. I have to wait till the 15th to receive all my checks, deposit the checks...

Networking with Twitter
2008-04-07 18:33:00
Recently i have been noticing a lot of bloggers getting involved with twitter. JohnChow has recently joined to interact with all his readers. But twitter is not a social tool to use and get in touch with so many a-listers. Twitter is a great networking tool! I personally find it very valuable since now I have found a great web designer and programmer. I have been talking about twitter several times on my blog. Twitter has been very beneficial to me in several ways. The fact that I am able to speak with big time A-Listers is a big advantage. For example if I send an email to Darren Rowse, I may not get a direct email response from him right away. A-Listers are always busy and always swamped with email. With Twitter I have a higher chance of communicating with Darren or anyone else. Twitter is similar to a chat client but seamlessly integrates with their network. What is far better than contacting A-Listers, contacting everyone at once! I love the fact that I can just ask one question...

March Spendings vs Earnings and Hurdles
2008-04-07 16:52:00
As you may know I have started back up in PPC and I have survived last month but I face some hurdles along the way. So I have made pretty good amount last month especially since I got back and I started as a newbie. I took all knowledge that I knew of PPC - with the exception of the basics - and started as if I was new to adwords, which I am. But thanks to several blogs that I read and my affiliate managers I manage to do pretty well last month. I started off pretty small and I think I did fairly well for a beginner. Prior to this small project I have done adwords in the past but not as efficiently as I did last month. I had more tools and I was more focus on my campaigns. I was paying more attention to my landing pages and looking for certain aspects of the offers. But lets take a look at my Adwords account which is my spending and we will take a look at one of my networks for the month of March . I will not post my other networks as they are little but they were all within the mont...

Lengthy or Short Blog Posts?
2008-04-04 16:22:00
So I decided to post up the poll results from my poll on the main entry of my blog. The poll asks if you enjoy reading short posts vs lengthy posts. I even wrote and asked my readers personally if I wrote lengthy posts. From the comments they have stated I don’t write that long and from the poll results a lot of users would rather read shorter posts. As you can see a lot of readers would rather read shorter posts and another big portion is some do not really care. This brings to me a middle point to where writers should write. I am geared to writing about a little more than 500 words a post. I know I do not bore a lot of my readers because most of my posts are real life experiences and I tend not to hold back. But knowing another big majority of the votes says they do not mind keeps me thinking, lengthy vs short. I might write 500 words or maybe 700 words. I know I wont write something too long, if I get tired of it then someone else is tired of it. Since now I have the stats ...

Podcasting for the Beginners
2008-04-03 16:45:00
Recently I have started another sort of media broadcast other than video. I recently did 2 interviews with 2 great people on PPC Marketing and Being Passionate about your Niche. Both these interviews were not my standard email interviews. I actually spoke to these people live and we had a great discussion and interview. I decided to dive into podcasting after Affiliate Summit West. The reason for this is because I wanted to be more interactive than just the standard text. Text interview becomes boring - there is no interaction. Standard text can not be very interactive; you can not jump in and over discuss a specific topic or go into greater detail. Podcasting gives me the chance to learn more about the person, as if we are talking to each other over a drink. With podcasting I can ask the generic question then go into greater detail on a specific topic they may have brought up. Podcasting is defined as: A podcast is a collection of digital media files which are distributed over the ...
Hell?s Kitchen Describes Blogging
2008-04-02 15:57:00
Last night was the premiere of Hell ’s Kitchen , great show! Gordon Ramsey has opened up a new restaurant in LA called London LA. He has London NY in obviously New York. This was the premiere and let me tell you it was a great first episode. But there were a couple things that stuck out to me which describes what I am currently doing, blogging. Nearing the end of the show there were some statements made that relates to any part of life and I will be relating it to blogging. Dedication and Passion are the 2 attributes which was seen on the show and stated. For examples it was the guys vs the girls and the girls gave it their all - showing they want to be the next executive chef of London LA. They stood up all night remembering the menu while the guys slept on it. Obviously, the men were not as hungry as the women were - they didn’t know a single item on the menu. This can tie into passion since dedication is wants your wants. If you are not passionate about something then y...

Just Joined eBay Partner Network
2008-04-01 04:44:00
I just joined the eBay Partner Network and so far I can tell you it is far greater than the CJ.com interface. The interface is very clean. I will be learning a couple things about the new network and hoping for the new release of Build a Niche Store. There seems to be a lot of similarities in the link and differences in IDs. But for right now there does not seem to be a big hype that I can see about eBay’s network - but it is definitely a much better interface than CJ.com. One interesting part that I notice is widgets. Below is a breakdown of what is to come soon within their network: Editor Kit: Add relevant, real-time eBay listings to your website or blog in just seconds with the Editor Kit. Filter your results by category, keywords, other eBay search criteria, and more! Customize the look to suit your needs. RSS Feed Generator: Easily generate trackable RSS feeds with dynamic eBay content that provides users with live eBay listing information. eBay to Go: Showcase your f...

Third Party Services vs Professional
2008-03-31 16:22:00
This weekend was really hectic for me. I wanted to create 2 websites this weekend and merge my auto responder service to Aweber. The 2 websites were not that much of a hassle, they were just landing pages for my PPC campaigns. The merging of my old service to Aweber was the annoyance. This showed me not to go cheap and just go for the big guys who already took over this specific niche. Being a noob back in the day, I was cheap and I went for more features and a lower price tag. I soon later learned that is a wrong way of thinking and now I am paying for it. This weekend was really annoying just the fact that I had to re create all my list campaigns within aweber, get use to the aweber interface, import my leads - annoying, etc. There were just so many hurdles and repetitive work. I needed to re create my follow up messages and re edit my HTML pages with the new aweber form. I personally got rid of a lot of my lead capture pages and report pages because it wasn’t worth my time ...

Azoogle Ads: Publisher Appreciation Day
2008-03-28 05:51:00
Great times at the Azoogle Publisher Appreciation Day, which was a couple hours ago. I get to take a tour of the Azoogle Ads office, which was pretty small but very clean - it had a dentistry feeling to it, all white and clean. I was rushing to get to the Azoogle gathering to meet up with more people but I was late. I just met up with Jonathan Volk, Jeremy aka ShoeMoney, and my account manager Erin. Rushing caused me more delays… I wanted to get to New York by 4:30 ish but arrived at 5:30 - just when everyone was leaving to go to the Latitude Bar. I took the train and got on the wrong train because I was rushing, so that really killed my time. I then had to walk several blocks because the original train I was suppose to take would take me right to their office literally 2 blocks I think. Since I took the wrong train I had to go to 3 other trains just get to the right street. Once on the right street it was another couple blocks before I got to their office. But I mean I think ...
Don?t Tell Your Friends You Make Money, but Tell Your Friends
2008-03-27 15:54:00
This is a very interesting topic I will be discussing today. I run into this issue every weekend or maybe even everyday. I have a lot of good friends growing up and I respect a lot of them. They support a lot of what I do and happy to see me grow. I love my friends and I have a very tight circle of friends that I only hang out with, but even your friends will tend to be bother about the amount of growth you have done. Then I have online marketer friends and local entrepreneurs. They too enjoy the other people with the same interest and ideas. They help motivate me as a person while I do the same. These friends I hang out with at meetings and socialize about our entrepreneur skills - asking help topics and generalizing about the next ‘big’ wave of internet ideas. The conflict here is there is a difference in interest. All my friends are hard workers and some have hard lives. Most of them struggle but they make life livable. Some are doing well but hate the jobs they are d...

Interview: Fat Man Unleashes his Passion
2008-03-26 16:39:00
I have recently interviewed and discuss with Israel Lagares about niches and how you need to be passionate about it. Israel separated himself as a blogger by speaking about health and he makes money online from his blog. I am bringing this up because there seems to be a confusion of what niche you should be doing. A lot of beginners automatically jump into the make money niche because a lot of people are always eager to earn more money online, yet it’s the most saturated and hardest niche to be in. The thing I hate about these blogs about making money online is a lot of them has no brand or recognition but speak about internet marketing as if they know it. Then when trying to network it is them asking the newbie questions. This really annoys me since I like to network and speak to like minded people. Israel and so many others separated himself by going into the health niche. Health is another saturated niche but Israel proves to up lift himself from the others because he has a...

Whats your Motive? An Interactive Affiliate Network
2008-03-24 23:17:00
Recently I got off the phone with a CEO of a new innovative affiliate network. This specific network is very unique in is own because of the interface, the interface alone is very intriguing at first but comfortable at the same time. Also, Brendan is part of a new affiliate network which I recently just joined, Advent. Advent seems fairly new I have never heard of this specific network prior but I was glad to join their network. The way I found Advent was by a comment left by Brendan, CEO of Motive Interactive . It was a post I had created on all the t-shirts I received from Affiliate Summit. I then contacted him directly and he sent me a t-shirt. Soon after we went ahead and started to conversate, it began as one of those ‘affiliate contact’ talking about how they are better than the other network but soon digressed into some personal conversation. This is good because you need to blend in some personality with business, otherwise it becomes bland and I stop listening. B...

Your Questions, My Answers Round 1
2008-03-24 14:52:00
Friday I logged into a very old forum that I rarely go into but I was very active in when I was just starting in the internet marketing genre. I had lots of private messages and threads that I have not visited in over 4 months. What I thought I would do was a questions and answer thread, just because I was gone from the forum and wanted to give something back for my absence. Below you will find questions ask by members of the Young Entrepreneur forum and of course my experienced answers. Sorry for not editing my answers, just in case I misspelled or have poor grammar. Best affiliate sites? There are multitudes of affiliate sites and most of them tend to offer the same offer, varying payouts. You also want to see what the network can offer you besides exclusive offers and high payouts. Is the communication there and is your affiliate manager willing to help you? Are you comfortable with their interface and layout? There are just numerous questions you want to ask yourself. I personal...

I want to take this and say happy easter to all. If you do not already know Caroline Middlebrook is having an Easter egg hunt right on her blog. Instead of going through grasses and bushes you are going through texts and images to find the eggs. So if you are bored go ahead and start finding the eggs because she will be giving out one of her great ebooks to you for free, once it is released. As you know she has created a great tutorial on Wordpress and goes into great details on so many aspects of wordpress. Great book. Today, I will be with family and will continue with my posts tomorrow. I have several posts ready for this week on some internet marketing stuff and affiliate marketing. I also have an interview podcast setup this week on marketing outside of the ‘internet marketing’ niche. I Don?t Do Video Blogging or Vlogging
2008-03-21 22:10:00
The other day Mark posted a tweet, yes I am a twitter whore, about bloggers talking about how video blogging is the next big thing and these authors do not have a single video on their blog. I am one of those readers that do not like to read all the time, I would rather grab a podcast or listen to video. Now a days we are in a system of fast pace moving environment. We want the necessary information now! So upset about the fact how bloggers are talking about video blogging and how beneficial it is, yet no videos on their blog. This is like creating a digital product, promoting it, and not even using your own product! If you are going to talk about something make sure you can back it up. Do not go and portray yourself as the super expert because you will look like a super ass. There is a lot of fakeness on the internet, especially those who want to make money online. There are marketers that just want to get content and will write anything that will attract the end user. With bloggin...

What Time of Day are you Making Money?
2008-03-20 19:43:00
When you are looking at promoting a service that is seasonal or even a regular product, what time of day are you making the most money, the most conversions? Sometimes you do not want to promote your publisher for the whole day especially in PPC. You want to have a good CTR, so you should show your ad when it is the most optimal for your buyers. After testing a campaign for a week, I found parts of the day I was getting low conversions where another part of the day I was getting more conversions. This should light a bulb in your mind saying to show your ad between these times for optimal performance. You do not want to show your ad to non-buyers at times where there is no traffic or where users are less likely to do an action. You want to grab the consumer at the time they are in a buying frenzy. It is easy to just put up your ad or promote during the whole day but is it saving you money? Does it produce you more conversions? With PPC is your CTR high? etc. There are times of the da...

Your Affiliate Manager is your WORST Enemy
2008-03-19 16:29:00
Isn’t your affiliate manager supposed to be your best friend? Always there helping you and getting your issues resolved in a timely manner? Maybe even giving you advice and troubleshooting your campaigns and creative. But some (generalizing) maybe just lazy and maybe do not even know what they are talking about. Worst, they probably will pass you off to another affiliate manager with some knowledge. Shouldn’t an affiliate manager have knowledge of their system and KNOW what affiliate marketing is? Past 2 days I have had the worst experience with a network, won’t say who it is, but they seriously need to get their act together. I literally spoke to 4 people on my issue, a simple issue at that! I felt like I was talking to a customer support somewhere in India because of all the transfers and idiotic questions and responses I was getting. I am not an expert in affiliate marketing nor do I claim to be. I do not even portray myself as a know all of affiliate marketing...

Back on the Grind: 1 Week of PPC Stats
2008-03-18 17:26:00
Yay, I made it through my first week. Since getting back on my grind I have done pretty well in PPC. I have even showed you my 1 day result after getting back on the grind as well. I think I did pretty well with my 1 week stats, especially getting back to the swing of things. BAH! I also even had issues with a network and they really ticked me off yesterday. But anyways… Here are my stats for one week and promoting 1 campaign. I did not group all the other campaigns together. I want to keep this simple. So you can easily see that I started the week good with a pretty big gap on the weekend. I do not know what happened during the weekend, I got no clicks and very low impressions. You can even see I had close to coming even on my second and third day. This specific campaign was only being published on Google Adwords. So my first day, I simply just picked my campaign and created 4 ads for rotation. This was within 1 ad group and just 1 campaign. With this specific campaign I st...

eBay Dropping CJ.com: Now What Build a Niche Store?
2008-03-17 23:14:00
So I received some emails about eBay dropping CJ.com and eBay creating their own in house affiliate system. Now, this sucks because what does this mean to all those software developers that created their affiliate store around the CJ.com affiliate system and especially the ones that bought those store scripts? There maybe frantic cries on this issue because of the big switch over. I know programmers that might have created their own are probably like ARGH DAMN! This new in house system should help better help their affiliate with reports, since CJ.com did a poor job on their reporting system. I am even confused on their reporting system. The eBay in house system is now called the Global Affiliate Platform, not sure if it is the official name. I know they are going to have their system up and running April 1st, according to their blog. We are excited to announce eBay?s new global affiliate platform: the eBay Partner Network. The new platform will go live on April 1st, 2008 PST, at wh...

Why is ClickBank the Most Talked about Network?
2008-03-17 15:40:00
When I started with affiliate marketing there was so much hype about ClickBank and their affiliate network. I remember back in the days I was promoting and all into ClickBank and their digital products. I even have a blog review website about ClickBank products because I felt it was the best way to make money and it did good - but now I am re creating and editing the website and concept. So my main question, why is ClickBank viewed as one of the higher affiliate network. A lot of beginner ebooks are always talking about promoting digital products, even PayDotCom was built to be in competition with ClickBank. A lot of sales page show ClickBank stats and never a Azoogle Ad stat or even a CJ.com stat. Take a look below (this is not my screen shot): I am not sure if it a marketing thing or marketers are out there to spread the world of ClickBank so their eBook can be sold and promoted. But most sales pages are all showing their ClickBank stats and never another network. Ebooks about Adw...

Creativity is Free - Just THINK!
2008-03-14 21:21:00
Going to one of my favorite blogs, 45n5.com, I noticed new banners. I then noticed right away all the ads are the same with all different affiliate links on them. Now this brings up a point because someone just bought a 250 * 250 ad spot on my blog as well and it is the same banner design. I thought to myself ‘does anyone think for themselves?’ Obviously no one is going to click on these banners or one person CTR may be higher than ones because of the similar 125 * 125 banner button. Just take a look at this image I snap shot at 45n5.com - sorry Mark for cutting you in quarters. =P You can clearly see the 4 banners that are all about making 5k a week. I mean literally you are just bombarded with red and $5000! Before you actually want to advertise on a blog/website LOOK at the banners, who else is competing with you and is it the same offer. If it is the same offer and the banners are all the same I advise you to get creative and simply make your own. This way you have ...

Sorry! Issues with Database Today!
2008-03-13 21:24:00
Sorry! Sorry! My site was down or super slow because of my database messing up. It took me all of today to figure out what was wrong and what the hell happened. Also I was on the phone with my host for a useless hour - they didn’t know what they were doing. I love 1and1 but their customer support is not so powerful. I went to Google and Google helped me out so much - took a little longer but I managed to fix it. YAY! The easiest thing to do is always have a backup of your website/blog. If you do not then your host’s customer support may or may not help you perfectly or you may have to figure things out on your own. I just want to say always have a backup. It is the most easiest thing to have and do. Again I apologize for the delay of my blog. Also, if you have not already noticed, there is a popup on my front page of a maintenance 1and1 is doing later tonight. I hope it does not mess anything else up - will find out tomorrow morning! How Many Affiliate Networks Are you In?
2008-03-13 16:55:00
So I just got back into PPC affiliate marketing and I am part of several networks already: ShareASale, CJ.com, Linkshare, PepperJam Network, AzoogleAds, NeverBlueAds, etc. I recently just joined 4 more networks. Also I have been getting free gifts in the mail - like t shirts! It is amazing the amount of exposure you can get from affiliate summit and multiple conventions. So today’s post is about how many networks should you be joining. I have talked to some of my online friends and some are active in fewer than 5 networks but joined a total of 10 networks. Other are active in 2 networks but joined about 15 networks. So when is the time to tell other networks “NO?” I have been receiving emails and calls from other networks - I personally do not mind talking to people but what does each network separates themselves from the rest? All the answers are the same: We have higher payouts We have more offers you will not see We are friendly and supportive We have a better ...
