Some PPC Results from 3-10-08
2008-03-12 17:35:00 The other day I spoke about how I am going to enter into the PPC game once more. With a lot of advice received from Affiliate Summit West and the fear of my big lost in January, I decided to go ahead and tackle this one more time. So I talked to several of my affiliate managers from several other networks and each advise me the best campaigns to promote via direct linking. I did direct linking because I wanted to see some results fast, if you see positive results you are more enthusiastic about continuing to progress. So I promoted 2 campaigns on March 10th 2008 and I actually stopped one campaign because it was not converting at all after $50 of spending. But one campaign showed great potential, high CTR, high EPC, and it was converting! It converted in almost 3 hours and I was getting at least 23% ROI, not bad I think. This should soon replace my $50 that I spent on another campaign and over the next couple days should be a good return. So I will be talking about something’... More About: Results
Pointing to Your Self Brand
2008-03-11 16:16:00 I received an interesting comment the other day via the Affiliate Summit Social Network. One person contacted me and she wanted to know how my trip was and how eager she wanted to meet me at ASW. I replied back and we conversated and an interesting comment stuck out. You know though, you have a trait that I noticed in most of the pictures……You point your finger….That is cool…..that should be your logo….or icon, favicon, whatever. Also I remember Joe Tech stated ‘time to do the two gun salute’ when we took pictures. See below: I tend to’point’ my finger to the camera like ‘ahh’ ‘ooo’ ‘haha’ - but my attitude towards the camera is just me enjoying taking a picture. With the comment Teresa provided to me I kinda of thought to myself, she is right I point in all of my pictures. I was also going to use this ‘finger pointing’ as my brand. I think I am pretty well recognized with my finge... More About: Marketing , Media , Brand
What are You About?
2008-03-10 16:54:00 So lately I have been checking my stats and I have noticed a big surge of traffic during the ASW convention. Great! One specific stat stuck out to me and it was my about me page. It was a high page visit and low bounce rate. I was interested in this and then I was thinking new readers want to know who the hell you are. I do the same thing. When I go to a new blog via search or referral I tend to want to know who the author and entrepreneur is. As you can see from these stats there were a lot of visits to my about me page. (snapshot taken between 02/23/08 - 03-01-08) Just looking at the stats to the left you can see there is a lot of views to the about page of my blog. People are actually reading the content on my about me page. New readers want to know who I am and what I am about. The unique view also tells me - most of the readers are all new readers, telling me it is new traffic. I am very grateful for this and with these new stats and information I have decided to redo my about ...
Asking the Expert: John Hasson
2008-03-08 18:43:00 Ever since I left Affiliate Summit West, in Rio, I have kept in touch with a lot of people. This provided me great access to some tips and even some interviews. Today or late last night I had the opportunity to speak to John Hasson. I was very energized to speak to John again - since the last time we spoke was via twitter. I met John at Affiliate Summit West and we interacted a lot. Spoke of certain aspects at the convention and just hanged out. John was one of the speakers at “Ask the Expert s” - his table was the most populated table. Many just had to stand up because there were no more chairs to sit in. A lot of users were attacking him multiple questions which John has answered honestly by experience, I like that. I do not like speakers speaking out of their ass because they are labeled as an expert. As you can see below at the Affiliate Summit Ask the Expert Session, John had the most crowded table there. John spoke about PPC marketing and he really went in deep det... More About: Marketing , Interviews
Back on the Grind: PPC Marketing
2008-03-07 15:26:00 So after some thought and depression of my January BIG lost, I decided to go ahead and start back up with PPC marketing. I have a couple spare change lying on the floor, so I will use it and see if I can make something of it. I will be doing a dating website and hope to convert. All the networks provided really good numbers on one particular campaign. So this time I will trust my affiliate managers. Just a Re Cap... All yesterday I got multiple calls and emails from other networks. I was being pulled in “Ian, JOIN MY NETWORK!” “Ian, WE ARE BETTER”. What about “LEAVE ME ALONE NETWORKS.” I should have never handed out my business cards, syke. This is actually good - last night was the first time an affiliate network was willing to change some commission payouts just so I can promote through their network. Cool. Back to Present Moment… I went a head and decided to talk to one of my affiliate manager and get more information on the topic I wante... More About: Marketing , Grind
Blogging the Twittering Way
2008-03-06 15:47:00 I have a twitter account and I really never used it. I only joined because the ‘crowd’ is doing it. I have blogged about micro blogging in the past. I have talked about Pownce and Twitter in the past and how it is a way to speak in a small and quick way. I really never went into detail about it because I rarely used it. Recently I have used it and I found it to be a very powerful way to network. At affiliate Summit West I was able to keep on top of shows, people, groups and people even going to lunch. I was able to even network faster and keep in contact faster than a simple text (SMS). I have decided to use it after Mark from 45n5 spoke about it on his blog. It was a good way for me to follow my favorite bloggers and entrepreneurs. I also noticed every 15 minutes a group twit is delayed by 15 minutes. So I would send my twit 14 minutes before it would actually be twitted publicly in a group. This was done at the Affiliate Summit Social Networking Seminar. Since they had... More About: Blogging
RSS Competition Results: 61 New Subscribers
2008-03-05 16:39:00 As you know I was in a competition with 4 other bloggers. I just viewed my RSS feed count and I have gained 61 new subscribers. Since rss feeds fluctuate a lot, I might see a decrease tomorrow. But as of right now I gained 61 new readers which is not bad - that means I gained 2 readers everyday for 30 days. I was also away for almost a week because of Affiliate Summit West, so no interaction of blog promotion was being pushed. Currently I do not know my place in this contest. As of right now, Jason from The University Kid has seen the most growth with his feedburner stats. I have yet to check everyone else’s but I know Jason will be having another contest soon. This was pretty fun too bad I did not go heavy as I wanted too. I was pretty much caught up with so many other things, such as projects, websites, networking, affiliate marketing, etc. Especially also I lost quite a bit in January, argh! But here is the original numbers we all started out with. I currently do not know e... More About: Competition , Results
Build a Niche Store 3.0
2008-03-05 00:25:00 I just got an email a while ago about Build a Niche Store . They recently just came out with version 3.0. A lot of talk has been brewing about on what to expect from BANS and what they will do to better suite other requests. I know personally it has done me some justice and I earned a pretty good handful with my BANS store during the holiday season. Now they have come out with a version 3. I know the interface will change but what about the default templates? They probably kept the crappy 2 column and 3 column templates. But all together BANS is a useful agile tool to have. Directly from their email: A lot of new features have been added to BANS V3.0 and consequently there have been some quite significant changes to what was the User Manual and which has now become: - Manual 1: Installation Manual: which covers pre-building and installing BANS. - Manual 2: User Manual: which covers building and developing your niche stores. Installation Warning: Updating one of your stores from V2 ...
A Total of $7,119 in FREE Cash & Prizes
2008-03-04 16:43:00 Gyutae Park from Winning the Web is having a crazy contest which I do not even know how he will be able to control. But funny part is Gyutae is a neighboring entrepreneur in my New Jersey state! He is having this contest I am assuming to grow his blog readers and subscribers. Very good marketing tactics and he is getting a lot of traffic already! I find contest to be a big part in getting a lot of attention and a lot of new readers, this contest is surely the biggest I have seen and participating in. I just hope to grab some good prizes out of it. I think I he may have had this idea for a while and maybe, just maybe after Affiliate Summit West he proposed this idea and usually everyone is really open when you talk to them face to face. I do not know this is just my guess. But Gyutae Park did a great job in organizing and promoting his contest! But here is his list of prizes he is currently giving out: Any one of these prizes (all of which are sponsored) will help you advance your bl... More About: Free , Prizes , Cash , Total
Does Your Business Card Turn Heads?
2008-03-04 15:49:00 You are already probably tired of hearing several post or stories about Affiliate Summit West. But since it was my first time I have learned a lot of things. For example today’s post will be about business cards and why I literally ‘broke necks’ and have the user wanting to know more about me. A business card is a quick information about your or your company on a 3.75 * 2.25 piece of paper. That piece of paper can even be plastic with rounded corners, but does that really get your prospects attention? Again a business card is a quick snapshot of who you are or what you do. It is providing a quick information resource to your end user. Simply just handing it out does not mean anything; will they contact you later in the future? Will that person decide to give you a call or even send you an email? What make your card different from everyone else they are going to meet? Here is my business card I was passing out at Affiliate Summit West. It is a fairly simple card. I... More About: Business , Card , Business Card , Turn , Heads
I knew I was Ugly - But Damn!
2008-03-03 16:32:00 As you can see this is a new and improved layout! With my readership growing I have been giving a lot of opinions about my blog layout. I have tried to defend it because the theme is so perfect and me as a web designer feels it is perfect for a blog that has continuous updates. Other readers/bloggers feel it is not in their comfort zone and have criticized the layout. What does Ian Fernando do? I go on a mean spamming spree, I spam all the users that have left negative feedback to me by just attacking their inbox. No, not really… But I did listen and I found a new layout for my readership. I have been a fan of Brian Gardner’s theme for quite a while and my blog was very successful with Brian’s Silhouette theme. I just love 3 columns templates and templates with interaction. I found the standard blog layout of the silhouette was great starting out as a blogger. But as the blog grows there needs to be growth within the blog itself, so I got a new theme. You may notic... Tracking Ian Fernando: Video Interview
2008-03-03 06:09:00 Tracking202 member, Wes Mahler has asked me if I would be able to do an interview with their team. As you know Tracking202 is a new tracking system, it takes the hassle of tracking your affiliate links. I have hanged out with Wes and his team at affiliate summit west and they are all very informative and fun, rum and coke anyone? lol His whole team is young and energetic, great thing - since old people like me just like to lay back and relax. But at Affiliate Summit West, Wes has asked me to do if I may participate in an interview. I did so and I think I did pretty well. I might have acted a little goofy in the beginning but hey it is my personality. Wes alone has proved to have great knowledge in affiliate marketing and especially in PPC. You can also check out other great interviews via Wes Mahler’s blog or Tracking202 video section, now on with the interview! Hope the interview was entertaining, one thing I do want to point out is the question about blogging and aff... More About: Video , Media , Interviews , Interview , Tracking
Affiliate Summit West 2008: Ask the Experts
2008-03-02 17:40:00 Tuesday morning I woke up had breakfast and networked with a couple people. I then joined Roger and Joe Tech at the blog war room section and went to an FAQs seminar. It wasn’t really a seminar more like a forum, you sit with an expert on a particular topic and you just bombard them with questions. I did not see anything I wanted to go too besides a PPC or affiliate marketing FAQs table. Then I noticed John Hasson at a table and I was kind of in shocked, prior to this event I have been hanging out with an expert and exchanging ideas. I was really proud to have met up with John. Me and John hanged out and went to several parties and discussed several topic, I can tell you John knows his stuff. At the Ask the Experts seminar - his table was one of the more packed ones. I assume this is because it dealt with more PPC and affiliate marketing. John is the middle person with his hair bleached. A lot of users were bombarding him with questions and he either said he knew the answer o... More About: Affiliate , West , Summit , 2008
Affiliate Summit West: Jason Calacanis Controversial Keynote
2008-02-29 20:33:00 I know there was a lot of blog out there already speaking about Jason Calacanis Keynote speech but I want to put my version out on this issue as well. I will be talking about 4 sessions I went to and how it was beneficial and how it was ehh. The 4 sessions I visited were on split days and proves to be worthwhile and 1 was just jibber jabber. But first I would like to talk about the first session I went too which was Jason Calacanis speech. I never heard of Jason but I have heard of Mahalo and have used it. But Jason posted a reaction about his speech on his blog. I myself do understand what he is talking about BUT to an extent. I just got in to affiliate marketing by ways of PPC and micro sites and I now do it legit, though I lose money here and there I do not try to pollute the pond per say. Jason started by simply saying Affiliate Marketers are scummy spammers, well not in those words but that is what he got across. This I agree because we care about clicks that the user experienc... Affiliate Summit West 2008 T-Shirt Friday
2008-02-29 17:59:00 I have received tons of freebies and I decided to take some and do a t-shirt Friday just like the Shoemoney! So below you will see some pictures of me wearing t-shirts from networks or services. I received multiple outerwear, since most networks are base in Canada, which for some reason not a lot know the reason as to why. But I took all these pictures pretty late in my hotel roo, so if I look tired it is because I am. Well below are some freebie gear that I have received from services and sponsors: Zac Johnson - MoneyReign.com The Official Affiliate Summit 2008 T-Shirt Twipster a geocentric mobile publishing platform RocketProfit - Affiliate Network - I might be joining them soon Tracking202 - the best affiliate tracking system Adviant - Affiliate Network - this shirt is a little small I think Want a custom web design made for your blog or website? Pictures from Affiliate Summit West 2008
2008-02-28 03:04:00 I just got back from my plane flight and had a quick snack, I just then uploaded all the photos to my flickr account. Which means all the scandalous pictures are up!! Syke, I actually filtered some of them out. I took pictures of the Vegas strip as well and I of the parties that I have been too. I took pictures of everything that I can. I even met a lot of new people and the rich people as well, great networking advantages. Tomorrow I will have a video made of the all the pictures and videos that I have taken. There were some great aspects to affiliate summit west this year and I really enjoyed it. I have tons of business cards from so many new people that I have met and got a chance to talk to, can you find your business card below? This maybe be a little but to me I think it is a great resource. There are so many pictures that I have taken about close to 250+ but in the flickr album I only uploaded about 160. So I have other pictures that are not in the album because of other rea... More About: Pictures , Affiliate , West , Summit , 2008
Spam is about to Get a Tan Tan
2008-02-27 16:49:00 There are multiple plugins out there that can battle blog spam, but how effective are they? Akismet does a beautiful job making sure no spam get through. The only problem is blogs are being bombarded with comment spam all the time. I even tried a new service called Defensio, the only rival service against Akismet. There were issues with Defensio that I did not like, I was literally in my spam box editing and approving spam. I later decided to remove it and stick with Akismet. Still spam was still an issue on my blog which I do not know why. It wasn’t until Simon pointed me out to a great plugin which naturally eliminated the hard work and the stress on Akismet. Joe Tan has created a great plugin base on simple rules. If you have ever looked at your spam section within your blog, you can easily identify what is spam and what isn’t. When I look at them I can easily identify obvious ones via IP repetition, user names, emails, specific words, multiple links etc. You can just... More About: Spam , Blogging
Finding a Niche that Pays
2008-02-26 15:04:00 I?m Lori, a SAHM, who loves to share blog tips and tutorials in hopes of helping others. If you enjoyed this post, please visit my blog and consider subscribing to my feed. In general, all niches will generate income but some will do better than others. It’s worth your time researching possible niches. A good niche will bring in a steady income and brand you in the blogosphere. How do I find my niche? Creating a list of topics that you are knowledgeable in will make for a good start. When considering possible niches, think about things you like to read, your hobbies, and things you can articulate daily. Jot down some ideas that you find interesting and remember, any topic can be a niche. 2 examples of a good paying niche are: Dogs. They are a very popular niche and can be tied in with celebrities, veterinarians, pet clothing, dog hotels, and even pet insurance. Photography can be a very lucrative niche. Affiliate Summit West 2008: Day 2
2008-02-26 05:08:00 Today was another great day, right now I am really tired and posting this blog post and I will be taking a nap before I go and grab some food. So far the day has been great again I was busy with interviews from other affiliate networks, seeing if I would qualify to their networks - not a problem with me. This morning I went to breakfast with Jason and went to this morning keynote with Jason Calacanis. This is a little controversial because I can agree to an extent with Jason but disagree with him on another extend. One thing that he says and still stick out in my head is “Affiliate s are Spammers.” ReveNews was blogging this in real time and did a great job with a cool time line on the blog, see block quote below: photo credit: tris 10:07am Calacanis is remarking about the first iterations of web spam in the mid 90?s. Looks like we?re going down the ?affiliate spam is a problem and Mahalo will solve it path.? If this is true what is marketing? Marketing alone is spam is ... East Meets Affiliate Summit West
2008-02-25 15:58:00 Sidenote: I apologize, I won’t be uploading any of my pictures to my blog until I return, I do not have a card reader on my mac. Blah. Also please note my writing, apologize for any mistakes. I flew in Saturday morning, eastern time and landed mid day western time. My flight was very long, 5 hours. Once the flight was done I checked into my hotel and finally got settled. The only thing that I forgot to bring with me was my camera. Once I rested up in my room I decided to go out and buy another camera, a Samsung L830. When I arrived in Vegas I had the pleasure of meeting super affiliate Zac Johnson and his girl friend. We chit chatted for a while and had the opportunity to ride with him towards the Rio Hotel. That Saturday night I headed down to Affiliate Dinner hosted by ABestWeb. They had a roast for Brian Littleton of ShareaSale. The dinner was very entertaining though the microwavable food could have been better. Guest Posting: A Blog?s Split Personality?
2008-02-22 16:21:00 With the next couple days I have some time stamp posted ready to be posted with some guest posts as well. Now I have had guest post on this blog before and it has benefited the blogger and my blog. The next couple days I will be in Affiliate Summit West 2008 and staying at the Rio hotel. So I will not have time to post anything on this blog. You will notice some new blogs with a small intro about the guest blogger and then their post. I have talked to these bloggers on messenger or email and I highly recommend visiting their blogs. I have done this specifically because I do not want to post a “Guest Blog gers Wanted” post. I want to make sure my post are good and does not contradict my own opinions and past posts. But, this comes to the questions which other bloggers raise - personality and style. Some bloggers out there hate having to read guest posts. They think it drives away from the true blog author’s style. In reality it does because obviously the writing styl... Web Design Stereotyping is Legal
2008-02-21 16:49:00 Everywhere on the internet there are great websites with horrid content. Then there are websites that have great content but horrid web designs. Do first impressions really matter on the internet, as long as you are getting the information you desired? What if you do a search on a topic and you land on an uber ugly website, would you consider reading it? Does the horrific layout scare you away? Will you give it a chance? I know personally, I will judge the website on design right away. It is the first thing I see, if the colors are too bright I hit the back button, if texts are too big, if navigation is confusing, I turn around and just hit back. You can say I am a racial internet hater on web designs. You may think that I need to read and get to know the website first before putting judgment on it. Well… let’s take a look at a real life example here: Imagine a small skinny fry goes on a speed dating service (I do not know why these things exist) trying to find his love ... Failure to Success T Shirts | Delay in Videos
2008-02-20 01:50:00 I just got my t shirts from a good friend who is now a full time entrepreneur and running his t shirt venues, DedTees.com. It is a good thing he is local and I finally received my t shirts to hand out at Affiliate Summit West 2008. I have about 24 shirts - I really didn’t count them as of yet but that is what I ordered. I ordered a mix of 3 sizes: M - L - XL, so I have a good amount to give out at the summit. Here is a quick snapshot of my tshirt that I ordered, damn I look ‘hella brolic’ in my t shirt. So this is the design on the t shirt as I have showed you guys in the past. The colors are a little dry but the image is embedded in the stitching which is what I wanted. If I bought a screen print, I do not think I would have handed them out. The t shirts came out really nice, better than ordering online since he is local. While Eric was here, he gave me some more pointers on my business and what I should be doing. I discussed with him some of my recently loses and... Overview of Mass Social Bookmarking Services
2008-02-19 15:21:00 There are so many social bookmarking websites out there. They all range from Digg to Reddit, and these social bookmark sites do one thing, save your bookmarks and share it with the internet world. With so many of these springing up, it is hard to figure out which of these are good. But for a marketer I think these social bookmarking websites are a good source of traffic. I have not really gotten down to really study and read the TOS of all these bookmarking communities. I know there are a lot that spring up and I know there are popular ones that can bring traffic. In the past I have paid for some services to submit my website to directories and social bookmarks. I have been looking into these mass submissions internet tools that I have found on the internet. Which one is better to use? What does one benefit over the other? I have used all of these and found some high points with some and really down points of others. Affiliate Summit West is Next Week: Get Ready!
2008-02-17 17:07:00 Affiliate Summit 2008 Las Vegas is next week! Argh! I didn’t even get a damn haircut. What will I be doing to get ready and prepare for Affiliate Summit West ? I have posted several blog post and videos about affiliate summit and I stated I will be there in Las Vegas at 11:30AM on Saturday. Once I get there I will be hoping the RIO has a gym because I will need to stay on top of my workout. There has been a lot of questions and curiosity of parties and where they will appear, so far there are several parties on Sunday night. The ShareASale Party is the most talked about. BUT an update on the Affiliate Summit Parties! Shawn Collin just announced in the DigitalPoint Forum the following: Join WebmasterRadio.FM for an evening event open to all conference attendees at Affiliate Summit with an exclusive performance by Blue Man Group to celebrate the launch of the new Blue Man Group Affiliate Program. Do I Really Write Lengthy Posts?
2008-02-15 16:27:00 One of my friends brought up a situation to me the other day which kind of got me thinking and the reason for this post. He basically stated my posts are too long and do not even bother reading the rest of the post. Personally, I didn’t think my posts were that long. I thought I should give a basic introduction to all my posts just in case a new reader comes a long and do not understand the basis of the posts. So I asked myself if I should do series short post or stick to my ’so called’ long posts. I remembered a post on Problogger about lengthy posts. That specific post was not long; it was simple, short and to the point. Thinking out loud again, but what if there is no explanation in the first couple sentences? I thought with writing you need to have an introduction, anticipating the reader what to expect in the coming paragraphs? Is blogging contradicting on how we should write? I know I do not write that well but I seem to get my point across. The problem with ... More About: Write , Posts
Get Frustrated to Grasp an Idea
2008-02-13 17:05:00 The other day I discuss how creating a digital product is fairly simple. There is literally two steps, have an idea and write or take action on it. First how can you choose what you want to sell or create for the online world? There has to be something that everyone wants which is not saturated and which is very beneficial to multiple readers and users. The question becomes more questions: What are users looking for? What will benefit them? Should I make it free or sell it at a price? How much? The ecover design? What about the sales page? STOP! First, let’s start with the basic, have an idea. What do you want to write about or create? One of my other eBooks was about the Samsung BlackJack i607. Since I bought the phone I wanted to know all the hacks and shortcuts on the phone. I scoured forums and asked multiple bloggers. It literally took me a lot of time to find all the information I wanted. I loved my phone and I wanted to use it to its full potential. My idea, create a tu... More About: Entrepreneurship , Idea , Frustrated
PPC Marketers: Tracking 202 is in Session
2008-02-12 16:48:00 Good News for users who want to track results with their PPC marketing campaign. Wes Mahler and his team have produced a great tool for tracking CPC, Tracking 202.com. I have bene talking with Wes for quite some time and he personally has invited me to be in a private beta testing on his new project. I first asked his business model and soon out of curiosity I joined his beta team. When doing CPC campaigns with affiliate networks you want to see what is doing good and what is not. You want to make sure that you are spending money on good affiliate products and not on bad ones. Tracking is very important in any aspects of marketing. You just want to see what works and what doesn’t. With PPC it is hard to really track keywords and what search engines your traffic are coming from. With so many ways to really devised on creating a good way to track keywords, let a lone find good quality phrases. With Tracking202 you can find everything you need in one location. RSS Competition Update: More Prizes
2008-02-11 15:33:00 With the RSS competition going very strong, I wanted to make sure I have networked with right people to help me win this competition. I have been approach if I would be able to accept sponsors, prior to this I was already asking some of my blogging friends and entrepreneurs to see if they would like to sponsor this competition. So far it looks like I am hand in hand with several of the competitors within this competition. I currently do not know what they are doing to gather more readers or what tactics they are doing. I know personally, it is who you know and I am using that to help me with this competition. Networking is very strong and simple on the internet especially among entrepreneurs and bloggers. We tend to be more open than if we were trying to network offline. With that said I have more prizes to give out, courtesy of several sponsors of this competition. I will speak about the prizes that I am giving out, then list the sponsors giveaways. Ian Fernando GiveAways: Adsense... More About: Competition , Update , Prizes
