Recession Proof Your Internet Marketing Business
2008-02-03 21:53:00
The ‘R’ word has been thrown around quite a bit lately. While we might not be in a recession at the moment, we’re definitely close. Within the last couple months here in Orlando one small design shop closed it’s doors, one large marketing company laid off close to a third of it’s employees and another ...

Funny Video Friday: Mentos Mouth Art
2008-02-01 17:10:00
I’ve always been a fan of Japanese ads. There is something about these short quirky and colorful ads that quickly capture your attention and keep your eyes glued to screen right until the end. And regardless of the language barrier they all seem to deliver their message clearly. Here is a great Mentos ad that ...

HoneyShed.com: Old School MTV Meets the Shopping Network
2008-01-30 17:29:00
HoneyShed.com is the furthest thing from traditional online advertising I have seen. When you arrive at the site a large video stream will begin playing, starring a bunch of 20 something guys and girls who look like they've just been pulled out of a 1980's fashion magazine. At first it might seem that they are just hanging out and goofing off, but you will soon realize, they are trying very hard to sell you products. If you like the product they are promoting, there is a link off to the right side of the screen showing the price, and giving you the option to buy it or stash it for later...

2008-01-28 03:37:00

2008-01-25 06:21:00

Mark Lives In IKEA
2008-01-23 06:06:00
IKEA agreed to let comedian and filmmaker Mark Malkoff live in their store for a week while his New York city apartment was being fumigated. Mark has flipped the typical scenario of a brand using a celebrity or sports star to endorse their products, and instead, he is using a brand to promote himself. Mark set up the website www.MarkLives InIkea .com, and has posted nearly two dozen videos on it so far. He is also inviting people to become his friend on MySpace and Facebook. Mark’s IKEA adventure has already been written about in the Washington Post and he has also been featured on ABC’s World News Tonight. I’m sure Ikea doesn’t mind the free PR, and neither does Mark. Here is Mark’s first IKEA video. Mark Lives in IKEA Another thing you can’t help but notice on the web page is a plug for Lisa Loeb’s new double disk album. What does a New York comedian, IKEA, and Lisa Loeb have in common? The same target audience of course. Here is...

2008-01-21 02:34:00
A few months back I noticed that a large competitor of one of my sites always sent out their newsletters on Mondays. This competitor is the type that would have done studies to figure out what day has the best return. But I still wanted to know what’s so great about Monday? Why not Wednesday ...

Will Wikia Search Ever Compete With Google?
2008-01-09 05:57:00
On Jaunuary 7th Jimmy Wales the founder of Wikipedia has launched his latest open source project called Wikia Search . Wikia Search is currently in Apha and can be found at alpha.search.wikia.com. So far the reviews have been overwhelmingly negative. Michael Arrington of TechCrunch calls it "a complete let down" and Stan Schroeder of Mashable calls it "miles behind the competition", I say give it a year or two and see what the open source community can do with search. They have surprised the world with the success of Linux and Wikipedia, so succeeding at search may still be possible...

The Burger King Whopper Freakout Documentary
2007-12-20 18:57:00
Burger King pulled a stunt on it’s customers by telling them that the Whopper was discontinued and no longer on the menu. Crispin Porter + Bogusky filmed the whole thing and turned the stunt into a TV ad and a 7 minute long viral video documentary. What I find most fascinating, is that when customers are confronted ...

2007-12-13 09:03:00
This week Google/youTube announced it is expanding its partner program that allows for creators of original videos to share in a portion of the ad revenue that these videos generate. youTube ran a pilot program earlier this year, and based on the success of that trial anyone in the United States or Canada can now apply to become a partner. Anyone can apply, but only those who upload videos on a regular basis, already have a significant audience, and comply with the youTube terms of service will be accepted. The downside to this, is...

Zwinky: Music Marketing In a New Virtual World
2007-12-11 08:44:00
'm sure you have all heard of the online virtual world Second Life, but have you heard of Zwinky? While Second Life averages 250,000 unique users a month, Zwinky boasts well over 4 million. Zwinky started out as customizable social avatars that were part of the MyWeb Searchbar. In April 2007, "Zwinktopia" was launched. It is an online virtual world that has quickly grown to over 11 million registered members. Zwinky, appeals primarily to a young teen demographic, and one of the ways that Zwinky has managed to grow such a large user base so quickly is through some creative online music events and activities.
