That's My Kind of Squirrel
2008-03-02 15:52:00
Yay for extreme humour! This viral shows us the ultimate punishment for rude phone etiquette. I found it while reading the blog for eSquared Fashion, local online personality Eric Edelstein’s funky  t-shirt store. The ad demonstrates an effective advertising technique, with Kyocera opting for almost a ‘cause campaign’ rather than trying a direct sell of their cellphone services. People who answer their phones at inappropriate times irritate us all, and Kyocera positioned themselves on our side of the frustration with their slogan: “Dial Responsibly”. The fact that this character decided to show such disrespect also means that we can laugh at his suffering with no guilt, which is why this kind of humour really worked for me here. All in all I give this ad a B- with viral potential. I have to mention though, that what would get me really excited is if Kyocera could start selling that attack trained squirrel. Comment on "That's My Kind o...

Internet-lessness
2008-03-01 11:52:00
Nashua Mobile has just launched a really fun “holistic” campaign: TV, Radio and Web – the way it should be (big smile). If you haven't seen it yet … check it out so you can appreciate what the hell I’m going on about!   P.S. The “he wanted to show me his blog” bit cracks me up every time … it is freekin' funny and I can so relate! I have heard some pretty funny Internet -lessness comments in my time…. and this campaign hits that spot perfectly. So what exactly is Internet-lessness (besides being a very cool word)? According to the campaign site it is:  Internet-lessness is defined as “an absence of a connection to the Internet resulting from high connection costs and/or a lack of knowledge of the benefits of being connected to the Internet”. People with Internet-lessness: may be so uninformed that they don’t know what Internet-lessness is don’t know what LOL, OMG and WT...

Awesome venue... check. Booze... check. Live band... check. A bunch of crazy employees ready to party 'till the sun comes up....you better freaking believe it! Quirk eMarketing is celebrating its 9th Birthday... and we plan on having one hell of a night. To mark this auspicious occasion we are hosting a legendary party on the roof of our office. Date: Friday 7 March Time: 16h00 until there isn't a braincell left... Bring: A great attitude, ready for a crazy night. Don't bring: Your mopy-self if you not up for a good time! For anyone who has attended any of our previous parties, you will know that the QuirkStars like nothing more than the opportunity to let loose and make absolute fools of ourselves. The event has been organised by our Marketing Manager, Tim Shier, so you can expect one amazing party. The evening will include a live performance from one of Cape Town's rising artists Julia Jakobsen and her band. Have I mentioned that there will be free booze... Those wonderfu...

Even Management Consultants want to know how to make millions from Google
2008-02-29 13:51:00
Quirk UK was recently invited to speak to a group of interested members of the MCA on Search Engine Marketing. Speaker: Nic Ray, MD, Quirk UK Topic: Search Engine Marketing (or how to make millions using Google ) So, what is the MCA you ask? The Management Consultancies Association represents the UK‘s consultancy industry (which is worth a measly £8bn a year!) to its clients, the media and government. MCA members represent around 70% of the UK consulting sector and eight of the top ten UK-based consulting firms (by consulting fee income) are members. So - a pretty prestigious invitation if you ask me. Nic and I arrived wearing our finest (read ‘only’) suits and were greeted by an engaging audience, with plenty of questions. The presentation was more workshop then lecture and the audience was kept on their toes with a few random pop quizzes around things like ‘Link Baiting’ and ‘Google Bombing’. We received a few requests for ou...

Quirk gets caught in a PR-Net!
2008-02-27 07:24:00
Don't worry, we're all okay... After fighting our way through the afternoon traffic and one dodgy garage pie later, Tim and I found ourselves pulling into Cassia at the Nitida Wine Estate in the Durbanville Hills – brilliant venue! It was here that Brian Berkman from PR-Net hosted Vanessa Clark from Clickatell in giving a highly enjoyable marketing brief. The topic: PR skills required to handle a technology client. As QuirkStars we didn't quite fit the PR-agent mould, but as WebPR is an integral part of of what we do at Quirk, we found ourselves appreciating and taking real value from what Vanessa had to say.  Below I have listed 10 points that Vanessa made and struck home with me. I have kept them from the PR-agent's point of view.   The technical industry is fast-moving and filled with young, colourful individuals that make for interesting and positive stories. Cover the PR angles – awareness, leadership and education. Know what your client...
