New Barry Adamson Album out

Barry Adamson's newest album Back to the Cat is out now. I downloaded mine this weekend and it is a damn fine piece of work. You can hear a sample on his Myspace page. The album is kind of a mix of all his styles so far. Some jazz-noir, some funky soul, some movie soundtrack sounding songs, and a little bit of everything else. Been a while I know but some new stuff out there thought you all may dig...Another Swedish import... Miss Li has some of the catchiest tunes out there. Her influences are many and her sound is unique. Check out some videos and streaming audio on her MySpace page. Don't listen to Oh Boy unless you want it in your head for the next 5-6 WEEKS. Playing at the HOB Los Angeles on April 28.Also from across the pond is Frank Turner. Some really funny, bitter and intelligent songs from this Englishman. If I had to compare I would say he's similar to Steve Poltz in song composition but his view of love and life is even more askew. Askewer? Kabobs? I digress. Pitchfork Interview Check it out. A good interview with Nick about the new album, Grinderman, being inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame, and more. Nick Cave : Yes, that's another thing that's happened because of Grinderman. Grinderman embraced a lot of that stuff. Maybe it had something to do with Blixa [Bargeld] leaving the Bad Seeds too, I don't know. Blixa had an absolute disdain for anything like that, anything that was kind of conventional in terms of rock and roll. His whole approach to music was just different from that. With Blixa leaving, I think that Warren moved forward a little bit more. And he loves rock and roll, although he approaches it in a unique way as well. I think that came out in Grinderman, and there are elements of that that have come through to this record.

So here's what's coming up that y'all might be interested in checking out.Slim Cessna's new album, Cipher, is coming out on March 25th. You can download a couple of songs from their website here. From what I've heard, it's vintage Slim Cessna, which means it is damn good! The Rocket from the Crypt R.I.P. CD/DVD is out and available. I ordered mine yesterday and am anxiously waiting it's arrival. The Night Marchers release has been moved back to April 22nd, but keep your eyes out for them because they are touring. And of course, if you haven't bought it, or ordered it, there is Dig, Lazarus, Dig! I got my copy and it is a must have. Many reviews are already calling it the album of 2008, which ain't bad considering it is only March.

From Punknews.org:John Reis , the mastermind behind Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, Rocket From the Crypt and Swami Records will be releasing his new album on March 25, 2008. The band is not yet named, but will include Gar Wood (Hot Snakes, Beehive & the Barracudas), Jason Kourkounis (Hot Snakes, Mule, Delta 72), and Montreal export, Tommy Kitsos (CPC Gangbangs). The recording was done over 4 months in Swami’s City Of Refuge studio that replaced their Drag Racist studio, which met its ashy demise in 2003. The group recorded 20 songs of which 13 are scheduled to appear on the album. Along with the release, the band is promising a healthy touring schedule for 2008 A date has been set for the highly anticipated posthumous CD+DVD release from Rocket From The Crypt. If for no other reason you have to like them for their name--especially because the singer is a chick, Erika Wennerstrom. One thing for sure, she has a very unique voice.Still trying to decide how much I like them. Some of the stuff borders too poppy for my taste, but I definitely appreciate the breadth of their style. Stagger Lee set the standard. With the pink shirt, the smooth moves, and the oh so groovy all male dancers. A classic! Although Nick doesn't treat us with any dances of his own, the booty shaking dancers more than make up for it in Bring it On!And finally, the 15 minute barnstormer than needs to be broken up into two separate videos - Babe I'm On Fire. How Indie 103 Rocks

So a couple of days ago I'm listening to KROQ on the way to work and their tag line of "Today's New Rock" was followed by Rage Against the Machine's "Bullet in the Head." I have nothing against Rage Against the Machine but that song is anything but new. It's 13 years old. This got me to thinking why I prefer Indie 103 to any other commercial station out there. Sure, they play Rage. But, they don't advertise themselves as "Today's New Rock." They play a pretty good mix of alternative music, the DJs don't try to be 20 something hipsters, and the shows they sponsor are pretty good. So, here's my Top 5 reasons how Indie 103 rocks.1. Steve Jones in the afternoon. I hate this DJ. He goes on about nothing for two hours everyday then gets half a show replayed in the evening. Everyday, he plays some kind of 70s glam rock. I've only known about this guy for about 15 minutes now, and I've only heard 3 songs from him, but I dug the shit out of all 3 of them! In the vein of guys like Bob Log III and Mark Sultan/BBQ, Scott Biram is a one man band, but without the other guys' cheesiness. More of a southern, cowpunk, style with some Mojo Nixon thrown in for good measure.
