Featured Artist: Alan Wilkis
2008-06-09 21:30:00
Based out of Brooklyn, Alan Wilkis is a multi talented instrumentalist and producer, who has recently released his debut album "Babies Dream Big".Pretty much everything you hear on the record Alan has recorded himself, and then also produced the whole thing in his own way too. He's created a quite stunning collection of tracks, which when put together leads to a pretty hot debut release. He's a nice chap too!One look at his myspace and in particular his influences will tell you all you need to know. A huge collage of images displays a wide array of artists, from Queen, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Black Flag, Slayer (!), Michael Jackson, the list just goes on and on, from genre to genre, decade to decade. This should give you some indication of Alan Wilkis style, i.e. he's incredibly experimental and crosses many boundaries with his music.Album opener "Burnin'" is so chilled out, its perfect for the hot weather we're all hoping for this summer. The track has a real groove to it, wi...

New Wave Of Music #20
2008-06-08 21:00:00
---> collection of tunes that i've been into over the past month or so. MP3: Hadouken - Crank It UpTaken from their debut album "Music For An Accelerated Culture", this track sums up what is great about Hadouken; big bassline, high tempo, and current. HadoukenMP3: The Outline - AestheticsOne of my favourite new bands of this year, The Outline combine angular guitars with offbeat drums, throw in some electronic influences, and turn it all right up. This band have the right intent and are creating challenging music. The OutlineMP3: Late Of The Pier - FockerI'm yet to hear a L.O.T.P song I dont like! Every track has so much going on you are never left bored. Fully expecting their forthcoming debut album to be one of my favourites of this year. Late Of The PierMP3: Gnarls Barkley - Going OnOne of the surprises of the year for me, without expecting to I really like the tunes i've heard off the new Gnarls Barkley album "The Odd Couple". Really chilled out beats made with the right inte...

Just a couple of updates for you today. Check out the following links for three new articles i've written for Sonic Dice, they include reviews of The Hustle , Sunflies, and The Metros. As well as that there's a link to the excellent Keep Hope Inside music blog run by Saam, which recently celebrated its 2nd birthday with a bumper set of guest posts from all of the blogs that Samm digs. He asked us to review an album by a British band, so i chose Blood Red Shoes debut "Box Of Secrets". Click HERE to check the post out.
Lillica Libertine
2008-05-31 12:00:00
I've mentioned Nottingham based producer Lillica Libertine on ML before, but recently i've just been caining his tunes so i felt the need to bring him up again. In particular his last single, "Manhunt" which came out a few months ago on french label Place Blanche, is just an absolute head beater of a track. When someone lists The Locust alongside the French House scene as influences, you know you're going to get some mental tunes, and Lillica Libertine does not disapoint. He uses crazy samples and really heavy beats, and everything is turned right up, but somehow its still danceable to. He's all set to take things to the next level, particuarly with a live session with Radio 1 planned for next week. Over the next 6 months I think he's going to rip up everything.Check out these tunes and let me know your thoughts.MP3: Lillica Libertine - ManhuntMP3: Lillica Libertine - DiamondsMP3: Lillica Libertine - Drug ControlLillica Libertine Myspace

Drum + Bass (In Your Face)
2008-05-17 11:00:00
Really been feeling my Drum + Bass lately, particuarly these two tracks. The only problem with D+B is that there seems to be a lack of blogs out there that cover the genre, therefore a lack of tracks that appear for download. So until these two are released officially you'll have to do with streaming them on their respective myspace pages.First up its DJ Hazard with "Machete". This such a killer of a track that would just rip up any dancefloor! DJ Hazard Myspace Then theres's SubFocus with "Timewarp", another really heavy piece of music from Andy C's RAM Records based artist. SubFocus Myspace

New Wave Of Music #19
2008-05-14 23:00:00
Another week, another bag of juicy new tunes for your listening pleasure. Get your ears round these!MP3: Dead Prez - Bigger Than Hip Hop (Ghetto House Remix)The original hip hop tune was massive, so any remixing of it is pretty dangerous, however Ghetto House soup it up and prime it for the dance floor pretty well. Dead PrezMP3: Black Kids - Hurricane JaneFirst single "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance" was a well received chart hit, however its this new track which encourages me that Black Kids have more to offer. Its a real grower for sure. Black KidsMP3: Pendulum - Propane NightmaresPendulum's new album "In Silico" has divided opinions, its more diverse then their debut release, encompassing more Rock elements which seem to alienate the D+B contingent. It works for me though! PendulumMP3: Buy Now - Body CrashOut on the 23rd June, "Body Crash" is a wicked tune from an artist called Buy Now. B.N are two parts of Swedish House Mafia (Steve Angello + Sebastian Ingross...

New Wave Of Music #18
2008-05-06 23:00:00
So from the tracks on offer in this post, you might assume that Music Liberation has gone all Electronic on you. And you'd be right. However in the near future there will be a similar post on some wicked new Rock tunes i've been digging lately, so it all evens out! I've also really been into my Drum + Bass lately, so expect a post along those lines pretty soon. As always, turn it up and enjoy!MP3: Lillica Libertine - Britney Spears (Demo)As far as i'm aware this track has nothing to do with Miss Spears, unless you listen to it whilst pummelling her face in. This tune is absolutely mental, big heavy bassline, distorted samples and beats, and it justs keeps going. HUGE! Lillica LibertineMP3: Audio Bullys - Gimme That PunkOnly heard this recently but instantly fell in love with it. Its a total mashup of vocal samples, beats, riffs, anything and everything basically. Seems like a triumphant return to form for A B. Audio BullysMP3: The Presets - This Boy's In Love (Lifelike Remix)Cr...

Haven't done one of these posts for a little while, not really sure why, guess its cos i've been busy with other things. Anyway these are some fresh new tunes i've been enjoying of late. What do you think??? MP3: SebastiAn - DogHeard this track a few weeks ago, its absolutley mental! Fuses Metal with House music into a terrifying noise onslaught that will kill your ears. Its dangerous and I love it! www.myspace.com/0sebastian0MP3: Busta Rhymes - Don't Touch Me Now (Throw Da Water On Em)This is the lead single from the new Busta album titled "Blessed" which comes out in June. Its high tempo hip hop from a man with something to prove. http://www.bustarhymes.com/MP3: Black Tide - ShockwaveNew young Metal band from Miami, Florida. Think Metallica meets Iron Maiden meets AC/DC. This single is released on 19th May on Interscope. http://www.blacktidemusic.com/MP3: Rusko - Cockney ThugCheck out this nice slice of Dubstep from London based artist Rusko. Stars And Sons - The Goat Show EP
2008-04-21 19:00:00
I recently received an E.P titled "The Goat Show ", from the masked up band you see before you, Stars And Sons . There's a generous seven tracks on offer from this E.P, and surprisingly there's not a dud to be found. This is definitely one of the most exciting and polished cd's I have been sent not only this year, but since the existence of this blog. The band blend infectious pop sensibilities and melodies, with gorgeous sweeping guitars, piano, harmonies, drums, and everything else that's going on. The music sounds really tight with everything seeming to hit the right note. There's a lot of diversity within these seven tracks, with the band experimenting with different styles and ideas. This is something which is really refreshing, particularly with the current stagnant manufactured pop scene that any commercial radio station will subject you to. Stars And Sons offer another way to think about and listen to pop music.Check out the bands myspace and also check out a couple of son...

Gig Review - Future Of The Left / Frommars / The Muscle Club
2008-04-15 18:00:00
I recently ventured to the legendary venue of Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff, to see Future Of The Left . You can read my review of the gig for Sonic Dice by clicking HERE.I obviously knew about Future Of The Left, and I knew a little about one of the support acts, Frommars. However the first band on, The Muscle Club , I knew nothing about. It was actually quite a liberating experience, seeing a band without any preconceptions, which in this day in age of the internet and particularly myspace is quite an unusual experience. {For me at least}. Although on this occasion I had just failed to find out anything about them as opposed to purposely not finding out. So I was particularly happy to discover that The Muscle Club are actually a pretty exciting young indie pop rock band from Cardiff. They are full of energy and already have a small collection of wicked tunes. I'm pretty confident their going to go from strength to strength in the coming months. Checkout a track from their recent "Shoot...

Webbafied Does It Justice - Interview
2008-04-08 21:40:00
I've recently been in contact with an up and coming Hip Hop artist called Webbafied. This guy is still in his early twenties but has already put out several releases and toured across the US and Europe. His new project see's him taking on a big challenge, putting his own style on the entire Justice "Cross" album. For anyone taking on such a daunting task as mixing an album of that class, you need certain qualities. Thankfully Webbafied has these in abundance, he's highly confident, has sublime songwriting skills, and has a good voice. We recently caught up with Webbafied to find out more about his "Webbafied Does It Justice" project, and what else he's got planned in the future. Firstly thanks for taking the time out to talk to Music Liberation. We?re really impressed with what you?ve done with the Justice album. Let?s get a bit of background first.Q1. Where did you grow up and how did that affect your music tastes?"First off...I wanna thank Music Liberation for taking the time t...

Cavalera Conspiracy / Operator Please
2008-03-27 22:30:00
Released this week is the debut album from Cavalera Conspiracy , called "Inflikted", which is out on Roadrunner Records. It is the first time the Cavalera brothers, Max and Igor, have made a record together since their well documented falling out at a Sepultura gig at Brixton Academy in 1996. And as such many Sepultura fans (myself included) are very much interested to hear what the boys have been upto, aswell as hoping that it may pave the way for a return of the original Sepultura lineup.Well upon listening to the track "Sanctuary" from said album, I can tell you that the Cavalera brothers are well and truly back! Its really heavy, with tons of intricate guitar solo's all over the place, pounding drums from Igor, and the familiar growling snarl of Max. After 12 years apart you may expect some sort of rustyness to occur, but there's none of that here, the music is really tight and accomplished. If the rest of the album follows in a similar vain, then I think we definatley have an e...

Fresh Music Report #4
2008-03-20 23:00:00
Yeah i've changed the name of this post again. Why? Well since I created the Music Liberation Myspace page, i've been getting lots of requests from bands and finding even more good brand new music, so the word "email" had to be dropped as new music is now coming at me from all directions, which is wonderful!First up this week is a brilliantly named band from Suffolk, called Cheeky Cheeky And The Nosebleeds. I first heard this band a couple of weeks ago on Mr Huw Stephens Radio 1 show, and ever since i've been hooked! The make really fun poppy rock tunes that you'd find hard to not put a smile on your face, even on a monday morning. The vocals are witty and really catchy, and the guitars and drums are pretty tight. The band released a single called "Slow Kids" earlier this month on Tired And Lonesome Records, and you'll be able to hear that track in this month Music Liberation podcast which is out on 31st March. In the mean time check out the bands myspace for details of the ext...

Here's your next dose of brand new music from across the world...MP3: The Whip - TrashOnly recently started getting into The Whip. This is a really strong track in the mould of the current rock/electro combo. Their debut album "A Marks Destination" is released on 24th March on Southern Fried. The WhipMP3: Be Your Own Pet - Heart ThrobAnother band which i've only recently started to hear material from are Nashville based, Be Your Own Pet. They make fun, poppy, punky rock tunes. Their new album "Get Awkward" is out next week on the 17th March on XL. Be Your Own PetMP3: Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip - Letter From God To ManAnother quality track from this pair of "geezers" from Essex way. The beats are chilled and the lyrics thought provoking. Hoping an album isnt too far away. Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius PipMP3: Hadouken - Get Smashed Gate CrashI have mixed feelings about Hadouken's upcoming debut album "Music For An Accelerated Culture". Tracks like this one i'm really into, whereas oth...

Inbox Report #3
2008-03-06 23:00:00
Hey, so the keen eyed of you will have noticed I've dropped the word "weekly" from this inbox report post, because basically im not going to be able to keep it up weekly, and anyway i decided it shouldn't be a chore to write which it could be with pressure to write it at a set time. Anyway my inbox has been full of really great new music of late, so this post was easy to write and thats how it should be. Enjoy! First up its a band i wrote about a couple of months ago called CHAINGANG. For those who don't know, CHAINGANG are a four piece from Australia who with previous track "Get Off My Stage" caused a stir from the UK to the US, and with a new track they are set to take things to the next level. Their sound? Well its an enticing mix of punk rock beats, intricate and powerful guitars, mixed with infectious vocals from frontlady Hayley. All in all it makes for a very refreshing and exciting sound which leaves me wanting more! CHAINGANG MyspaceMP3: CHAINGANG - CUT HERE (demo)Next w...
