Guitar Major Scale Soloing (Free Online Lesson)

So you're searching for information on guitar major scale soloing as a free online lesson. Let's just jump in. Here's how you do it on electric or acoustic, whether a Fender or Gibson, or 12-string guitar or 6 string. Let's say you're playing off the G Major Scale from the 3rd position on your neck. That's G A B C D E F#. In order to solo with this scale, you have to understand what chords you can play with. All together there are only 6 (rock) chords you can use. G Major, A Minor, B Minor, C Major, D Major, and E Minor. Here's why. 3 Excercises to Increase Finger Speed on Guitar

Exercise to increase finger speed on guitar #1 - Practice your 5 pentatonic modes and 7 diatonic modes by playing all hammer-ons and pull-offs ascending and descending. Exercise #2 - Play your 3-note-per-string major or minor scale. On each string, hammer-on and pull-off until you've played a total of 7 notes. For example, let's take the G Major Scale starting from the 3rd position on the 6th string. You'll play on the 6th string alone, G A B A G A B. For the 5th string, you'd play C D E D C D E. Exercise #3 - Practice hammer-ons off your E Minor Pentatonic Scale. Starting from the 12th fret, 6th string, you play E G E G. Both hammer-ons... On string 5 play A B A B. And so on. If you do all 3 of these, then your finger speed will increase like crazy!

The 7 diatonic modes for electric guitar include: Ionian Dorian Phrygian Lydian Mixolydian Aeolean Locrian All Greek names. Don't let it confuse you though! The concept is simple. You're playing the same notes of the major scale starting from a different note in the set. That's really all there is to it. I think guitarists like to pretend modes are more than what they actually are. They're just the same intervals as the diatonic scale, just starting from a different interval. Let's take the C scale. C D E F G A B Starting from... If you want to play your major pentatonic on your guitar, then this is all you do. No doubt you know your minor pentatonic scale. Probably in Am. This is the first scale taught by tons of teachers. To play your major pentatonic, simply start on the second note of your minor pentatonic. For example, play your Am pent... starting from the second note, C. Instead of A, C, D, E, G... You play C, D, E, G, A. Same notes from a different starting point. Nothing more to say! Except if you learn all 5 modes of the pentatonic scale, then you can learn major pentatonic on guitar in its proper position.

Solo requires some bending and off-beat notes. Great for the beginner! As said, you'll also be playing off the F Minor Pentatonic Scale, so you'll be getting used to those notes. You actually move into diatonics a bit too. Lead #2: Believe it or not, Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird"� has an easy to learn guitar solo. Almost every guitarist I meet wants to know ?Why can't I play guitar fast?? My answer is usually this little story... How I went from a guitar wimp to a speed demon. I played for 6-some years before I could even play fast guitar solos or scales quickly. I had a bag of tricks and when they ran out, everyone would notice I had a giant hole in my musicianship!
