The Loose Salute: Tuned To Love CD
2007-06-01 01:32:00 The Loose Salute is a gang of friends whose members are about reporting back from the world they live in together, making records that represent something for them, and bringing out the sheer sense that creating music is a celebration, not a labor. The Loose Salute was formed by Ian McCutcheon (drummer of Mojave 3) and Lisa Billson, who met Ian after he heard her singing along to Bob Dylan songs. Tuned To Love was made anywhere that the vibe was right - living rooms, garages, even Ian's mum's kitchen. Performing on the record is the core band of Ian (Drums & Vocals), Lisa (Vocals), Pete Greenwood (Guitars), Charlotte King (Harmonies & Percussion) and Al Forrester (Piano & Organ). Paul Noble added some Bass, surf Guitar and mixing skills and Ian's school-yard buddy Pritpal Soor added some more electric Bass, Keys and a producer's ears. The Loose Salute Bio:It looked like it might be all over before it had even begun? After releasing its first single (the Suck It Up Buttercup E... Matt plays guitar on several of the songs, this is the first album in which he will do so.The band plan to do their first tour for the new album in venues similar to the ones of the last Hours tour, however they may move up to larger venues depending on the success of the album. Neurosis: Given to the Rising CD
2007-05-24 07:56:00 The Bay Area's legendary masters of behemoth, psychedelic operatic guitar girth, now in its third decade has again transformed its genre-shattering sound with its latest Neurot Recordings release, Given To The Rising. It's like being submerged in an isolation tank -- it's enveloping, subverting the senses with surreal visions we'd swear were our own, cleverly jarring and disorienting consciousness beyond any footing in reality. Recording with revered engineer Steve Albini (as the band has for five previous albums) it is some of the band's most raw and immediate material to date, but it is also more complexly orchestrated and richly thickened with psych-damaged overtones. Given To The Rising is Neurosis at its most captivating and hypnotic..Neurosis Bio:Neurosis needs no introduction. Coltrane Motion: Songs About Music CD
2007-05-23 03:25:00 This is the new album from Coltrane Motion , two small-town Ohio expatriates now residing in Chicago . Lead singer Michael Bond records sixties- obsessed electronic pop in his home studio, while guitarist Matt Dennewitz covers it all in wailing distortion and delay at their live shows - the result is a raucous wall of sound built out of drum loops and fuzzed-out melodies, held together by swirling synths and organ drones. It's an indie rock dance record that doesn't follow the DFA/NME template, leaning more on 90s shoegazers and 60s soul jams than the usual post-punk roll call. Their frantic live show has been described by the press as an 'exuberant seizure' and 'the cool kids in programming class', its dance-punk intensity a far cry from your usual laptop performances. Now they're hitting the road again this Summer in support of their first real full-length, with a series of dates across the Northeast and Midwest.Coltrane Motion Bio:The group has its origins in a handful of lo... 2007-05-13 06:16:00 MADISON, Wis. ? Ruff Road Record s is proud to announce the release of The Selfish Gene 's second record, The Grand Masquerade. The Grand Masquerade, which was made available on May 1, is the follow up to the band's first record Self-Defeating Human Beings. Though the album was released independently, it received rave reviews and earned the band a dedicated following. This allowed The Selfish Gene to tour extensively and share the stage with the acts like Kings of Leon, Cloud Cult, Leon Russell, and Blue Oyster Cult, among others.Ruff Road Records looks forward to bringing The Selfish Gene to a national audience with their new record, which is based on Orwellian concepts of deception, false identity and doublespeak. The new record showcases the band's unique brand of pop rock; a style best described as thematic storytelling in a progressive rock format. Hoots & Hellmouth's Self-titled Album
2007-05-08 13:28:00 Philadelphia-based Hoots & Hell mouth (MAD Dragon Records/Ryko/WEA) embodies a feisty, independent spirit churning out new music for old souls. Their shows are like traveling tent revivals; their audiences are like congregations. And while the emphasis has always been on the live experience, H&H?s eponymous debut studio album (April 2007) is shaping up to be one hell of an adventure.Produced in collaboration with fellow Philadelphian Brian McTear (Capitol Years, Matt Pond PA, Bigger Lovers) at his Miner Street/Cycle Sound Studio, the album gives powerful evidence that the band has concocted a musical blend of roots/revival sensibility with a healthy dose of rock n? roll energy that is all their own. Starting with the core instrumentation of two guitars (Hoots and Hellmouth), mandolin (Rob Berliner), upright bass (Tim Celfo), three-part harmony vocals and foot stomps, the band worked in conjunction with McTear to flesh out each song, adding drums, organ, additional voices and the ... Winterpills: The Light Divides CD
2007-05-08 12:21:00 Following the massive success of its home-recorded 2005 debut, Winterpills decided to settle into a studio to record the follow up. The resulting release, The Light Divides, improves upon the shimmering, nostalgic mood of the debut, taking the band?s subtle and delicate pop to new sonic territory. As its name implies, Winterpills creates blustery, hibernal tunes that are best enjoyed in the cold: they will alternatively give you the chills and warm your soul. Winterpills stumbled upon some sort of method to create musical deja vu -- you already know these tunes, but are simultaneously aware that you have never heard them before. Eerie familiarities lead to new discoveries with every successive listen. Ethereal strains creep in and out of stereo sound. The Light Divides is sure to haunt your thoughts, and your media player.Winterpills Bio:When Winterpills released their debut album in the fall of 2005, fans and critics alike scrambled to define what made it one of most significant... The Icicles: Arrivals & Departures CD
2007-05-08 11:37:00 What would happen if a group of life-versed adults tackled the themes of young love and youthful naivety within a sixties' pop format? Well, you're about to find out. The Icicles create young people's music with a reflective palette. Sweet pop melodies remain with listeners indefinitely. The band's debut, A Hundred Patterns, dazzled music fans as well as ad execs for Motorola, who used the single "Sugar Sweet" in a national campaign. The group's newest effort is an ample offering of cheery tunes perfect for a summer day. Engineer Britt Myers (Essex Green, Dressy Bessy) joined the band in the studio to ensure a unique sound, and helped to set the group apart from the other girl-fronted pop offerings on the indie scene. With a sound that isn't far from indie frontrunners Camera Obscura and guitar lines reminiscent of The Cure, this band is quite a treat. The Icicles Band Members:Gretchen (vocals, guitar)Joleen (vocals, keyboards, gloc)Emily (bass guitar) Greg (vocals, drums)Rebec... The Basement: Illicit Hugs and Playground Thugs CD
2007-05-03 00:54:00 The Base ment launched amid a mass of praise from the UK's leading music press and with Illicit Hugs and Playground Thugs set for a US release, Americans will get a taste of what NME predicted "will sail way beyond all other pretenders." The Basement name came as a nod to Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues because, as singer / guitarist / songwriter John Mullin says, "the place we were living and rehearsing in was like a basement and Mark (McCausland - guitarist) used to take the piss out of me because of the line in the song that says 'Johnny's in The Basement'. So it stuck." Illicit Hugs was produced by fellow Irishman Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, The Zutons). On it, you can hear a band at the height of its powers - like the Flying Burrito Brothers with hips, like Van Morrison letting loose with some back-street white-boy soul shouting in his essential Them years. The Basement Band Members:John Mullin - Guitar, keys and VocalsMark McCausland -Lead Guitar, keys, stringed instr... Taxi Taxi: Maps and Legends CD
2007-05-02 07:30:00 Taxi Taxi is the brainchild of musician and producer Terence Bernardo. The band serendipitously met in the back of a shared cab during the fabled New York City transit strike of 2005. Small talk ensued as driver fought through the morning rush hour and soon the passengers discovered a shared affinity for the sounds of Stax Records and varied artists such as ESG, Harry Nillson and Big Star. Within a month, the newfound friends were capitalizing on their luck, rehearsing in Bernardo's Brooklyn studio and recording what would eventually blossom (after some time in Kid Koala's Montreal studio), into Maps and Legend s. With roots firmly planted in strong songwriting and inventive production, Taxi Taxi's sound defies easy classification. The band serves up classic pop tunes that are by turns rocky and melancholic, experimental and nostalgic.Taxi Taxi Bio:As Terence's songs took shape, it became evident that his writing largely concerned a particular period for him in New York. Chris Bathgate (Featured on YerBird compilation, Touring w/ Saturday Looks
2007-04-30 02:49:00 One of the leaders of the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti folk scene, Chris writes seminal folk songs that are at once new and old, rock and sometimes not roll, but all seem to reel you in with the intensity of voice, lyricism, and depth. For those in and around the Ann Arbor vicinity it's difficult to speak about Chris without spiraling towards hyperbole. Now, as the remainder of the globe gets ready for their first glimpse at the talent who has risen to the top among the ever fruitful Michigan music scene, perhaps it's better that we stick with the facts surrounding Chris Bathgate.Having drawn comparisons to Jeff Tweedy, Will Oldham, etc., Chris has risen from the ranks of everyday singer/songwriter to a national touring favorite, spending the early part of 2007 on the road with Saturday Looks Good to Me and making his first trip to the SXSW Music Festival. The Clutters: Don't Believe A Word CD
2007-04-30 00:25:00 The Clutter s grew organically out of a garage in Nashville, TN. Their sound is vintage, hooky, and more than anything, fun. On their second long-player, The Clutters sound like a polished 70's rock 'n' roll act-- poised to rock your face off or destroy a hotel room. Like Tennessee colleagues Kings of Leon, The Clutters produce raucous and catchy tunes appropriate for running from the cops, bar fighting, breaking out of jail, or similar illicit activity. Thunderous guitar and drums are bolstered by controlled-angst vocals. Antique keyboard sounds outline hooky melodies. The raw, country-tinged tracks on Don't Believe A Word will undoubtedly be the most fun listening experience you've had in ages. Any critic who has recently etched the words "rock 'n' roll is dead" has yet to hear the classic sound of The Clutters.]The Clutters Bio:Within seconds of seeing or hearing Nashville, TN's The Clutters you'll know that they are a band unconcerned with the fashion of the moment. Sir Salvatore: Those Men Are Not Astronauts EP
2007-04-29 12:49:00 I did careful listening to "Hooray This Projector". It was like a groovy indie tune that I can still remember the "ohh, ohh ohh". The song is actually cool and danceable. While I let loose the full bass of my stereo speakers, my coffee got messy when I ended up listening this song but that was okay. :)Now, if you want a mood changing song, the "Public Key" will surely digg into your ears and touch your heart.
