Tanner Walle: The Future of Tape
2007-04-24 03:11:00 Tanner Walle, a singer/songwriter from Lawrence, KS, has released his latest album, The Future of Tape through Mixtape Meditation and PVS.My Review:The feeling of wanting to hear more music, the need for the beat, and the jazzy fingerpicking of guitars was generously supplied by Tanner Walle's second track, "Hearing Things Again". I assume The Future of Tape has a lot of surprising tracks in it. After i took several replays on the track, I can still remember the repetition of lyrics at the end but it was good.Tanner Walle Bio:Over the past five years, Tanner Walle's career has been through many amazing progressions.Located in Lawrence, KS, this music melting pot and culturally rich college town has laid a foundation for Tanner to not only play Lawrence's largest stages to packed rooms, but to also build and establish a respect to and from his fans and musical peers throughout the Midwest.Having released his first album in 2003, "It Was" gained instant recognition for it's undeni... J. DiMenna: If He Could Speak Now CD
2007-04-24 01:05:00 J DiMenna's soothing voice, dark musings, lyrical prowess and tapestry of sound has amassed him countless adoring reviews and an ever-growing fan-base. He is "skilled at understatement" (Nashville Scene) and his "well-wrought lyrics and intricate writing provide a bridge between diverse styles, from Beatlesque to Waitsian." (Time Out New York). NPR's Bob Boilen says, "DiMenna's made a CD that's infectious... The kind of infectious music that I find myself singing and not realizing what it is or how it even crept into my subconscious.". If He Could Speak Now is a digital-only live EP which accompanies the national re-release of DiMenna's critically acclaimed album Awkward Buildings. The tunes here are taken from an XM Café performance at XM Radio and a show in DiMenna's former home base of Asheville, NC.J. DiMenna Bio:J. The Stooges: The Weirdness
2007-04-23 07:42:00 The Weirdness is the fourth studio album - and first formal non-live release since 1973's Raw Power - by influental protopunk band The Stooges , featuring founding members Iggy Pop, Ron Asheton, and Scott Asheton along with new bassist Mike Watt (Minutemen/fIREHOSE) and Fun House saxophonist Steve Mackay. The album was recorded by Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago, Illinois during October 2006, and was mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London, England in December of that same year.Reviewer: Norman Earl Crider "Norman C" (Houston)The minute I heard there was a new Stooges cd out, I ran to buy it, even though the reviews I had read were mediocre. I wasnt sold on it at first and the sound is slightly muddy, but after a couple of listens, I havent had it out of my cd player in over a week !!!Turns out to be next to classic Iggy, some lyrics are lightheaded, but most are great songs. My faves are ATM, My very fave is My Idea Of Fun, the creepy title track with balladee... Sick Puppies: Dressed Up As Life
2007-04-23 05:38:00 The Sick Puppies ' second album, "Dressed Up As Life " came out via Virgin Records. Reviewer: James Chase (Boston, USA)I was impressed by the EP that has been out by them for awhile and interested to see what they would do with a full length release. This is good stuff. There is a slight difference between "All the Same" on the EP and the full length, but other than that it seems like the recordings are the same. There's really nothing bad I can say about this disc, it's good all the way through. It's not ever going to be a "classic" and it isn't revolutionary but it's the best all around release I've heard so far this year. I always preview my discs before buying but if you were going to take a risk on a new band, I think this will appeal to a lot of rock fans. They've been getting heavy play on my sound system since the EP and I think it's only going to double with this release.Check other customer's reviews for "Dressed Up As Life" album.Sick Puppies Upcoming Shows:May 5 ... Calla: Forthcoming album "Strength In Numbers"
2007-04-22 16:03:00 Calla was formed in New York City in 1997 by Aurelio Valle (guitar, vocals), Sean Donovan (bass, keyboards, programming), and Wayne B. Magruder (percussion, programming), adding Peter Gannon in 2003 and Sean Donovan departing in 2004. However, the band's origins can be traced to Texas in 1993, where Valle, Magruder and Gannon began performing together in the Denton band, The Factory Press. The Factory Press relocated to New York in 1995, recording The Smoky Ends of a Burnt out Day with producers Kid Congo Powers and Matt Verta-Ray. The group split in 1997 and the album was not released until early 1998, by which time Valle and Magruder were pursuing new musical ventures. Most notably, Magruder worked with Bowery Electric and Windsor for the Derby. A four-track demo was completed in 1998, generating interest from the Brussels label Sub Rosa, which released the band's first album to critical acclaim in 1999. Tokyo Police Club: A Lesson in Crime EP
2007-04-22 15:39:00 TOKYO POLICE CLUB started by accident one day in the ordinary suburb of Newmarket when Greg, Josh, Dave, and Graham decided that they missed playing music together, their previous band having broken up several months before. The four gathered in Josh's basement, plugging in instruments and making up songs almost at random, with no goal but to recapture the magic that they felt making music together. By the time summer came, TPC had began quietly to play shows in the Toronto area, shows at which the very few people in attendance seemed impressed by what they saw. The band seemed likely to end here, with the various members preparing to go their separate ways in the fall, when fate intervened in the form of an invitation to play the Pop Montreal festival. Packing their instruments and girlfriends into a tiny university residence room, TPC spent a week immersed in music, spending days lazily wandering the streets of Montreal and nights rehearsing loudly in the tiniest of spaces, a... 2007-04-22 10:54:00 CHICOSCI released and launched their self-titled fourth album. Having been in the studio for more than a year, the band boasts it as being their best work to date. A self-produced effort, the band again attempts to give listeners something new to look forward to. Focusing more on catchier melodies and earnest lyrics, the new album redefines the band?s already distinct sound with MTV-generation pop sensibilities. With this new record, the band hopes to further expand its fanbase and touch those who might share the band?s life experiences. What started out as a group of young college kids from the Ateneo de Manila University, CHICOSCI was originally composed of Miguel Chavez, Mong Alcaraz, Carlos Calderon, and Joel Salvador. The Mitchells: Slow Gears CD
2007-04-20 00:57:00 Most indie rock aficionados can probably tell you a thing or two about Northampton. The tiny Massachusetts town gave birth to a number of ultra-influential acts, including Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, and Silver Jews. These same folks probably also know about The Mitchells, the long running indie rock act that set out to "Write songs like the Smiths, but perform them like Polvo." These indie rock veterans are a major part of the Northeast scene and have shared bills over the years with Throwing Muses, Buffalo Tom, The Figgs, Versus, Crooked Fingers and Jason Lowenstein. For their third full-length, Slow Gear s, The Mitchells keep the up-tempo, distorted feel that fans are used to, while introducing some new atmospheric moments that give listeners a chance to reflect on this truly awesome band. The Mitchells Bio:The Mitchells are a veteran indie rock band based in Northampton, Massachusetts (launching point of Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, Scud Mountain Boys, Pernice Brothers). 2007-04-16 01:10:00 Them vs. You vs. Me is the fifth album by Canadian rock band, Finger Eleven . The album was released through Wind-up Records on March 6, 2007. The first single, "Paralyzer", has started playing on radio stations across the US and Canada, and has a distinct feel from the rest of the music they have released, as it's more of a "dance rock" feel, as frontman Scott Anderson has said. Kelly Sweet: We Are One
2007-03-11 15:01:00 You know the feeling. Weâve all had it. Chills run up and down your spine, and the hair stands up on the back of your neck. The reaction is so strong, you can actually feel it moving through your body.Somehow - and it is inexplicable - the melding of voice, talent, words, and melody have come together to create a sublime moment. Itâs as if the singer was privy to your most intimate thoughts and feelings. A deep connection is forged between listener and vocalist: you have become soul mates. The pleasure - the feeling of oneness - is so intense, you listen over and over. Such is the experience of hearing 18-year-old singer Kell y Sweet for the first time. The opening âoohsâ of âWe Are One,â the title track from her debut album coming from Razor & Tie in 2007, stop you dead in your tracks. Hushed and hymn-like, Sweetâs voice creates a lush world of beauty. Fittingly, the songâs lyrics urge listeners to take comfort in the community of all souls. âI am you, you are me... Cassette: Beautiful California
2007-03-11 09:44:00 Beautiful Cali fornia was originally released in the fall of 2005, but its continuously renewed significance warranted its re-release. While the majority of the tracks are under a minute long, Beautiful California contains 35 unique musical ideas for listeners to ponder. Cassette is the brainchild of Devin Smith, and emerged from an original bank of seventy tracks written and recorded in Smith's tiny room at the University of Miami. Smith halved this immense stockpile and created Beautiful California, a genre-bending collection of brief thoughts and feelings. For this reason, Cassette is advanced. Where the typical album only expresses a few different themes and ideas over 10 to 15 tracks, Cassette covers ample terrain-- perhaps reflecting an entirely new era in songwriting. Beautiful California is the product of genius, and whether you listen for simple pleasure, or to contemplate its massive significance, its always enjoyable.Cassette Bio:Cassette was once a boy, then it was a man...
