The Golden Age Of Grotesque is the fifth album by Marilyn Manson released in 2003. It incorporates themes from the glamorous Swing era of the thirties, as well as from the Weimar Republic of pre-Nazi Germany.These themes were primarily drawn from Mel Gordon's 2000 book Voluptuous Panic: The Erotic World of Weimar Berlin. Concerned that Gordon might take issue with use of the book's material, Manson called Gordon, who said he couldn't imagine a greater compliment than a popular CD based on an academic book. The Album artwork is also influenced by the illustrations found in Voluptuous Panic.This album drew a mixed critical response. Its release was criticised by critics and fans, as nine of the sixteen recordings had previously been released on the 1998 John Lennon Anthology box set, while the remaining inclusions had been bootlegged for years.Although it failed to chart in the UK, Acoustic reached #31 in the US, becoming John Lennon's best charting posthumous US release since 1988's Imagine: John Lennon soundtrack album.The album debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart on November 20, 2004 at number 31, with sales of 27,858 copies. Obscured By Clouds is a rock album by Pink Floyd based on their soundtrack for the french film La Vallée. The album reached #6 on the UK albums charts and #46 on the US album charts.At this point in their carrier, the band was not new to scoring movies. So when the band went into score the movie, they had a lot more experience and therefore produced a much finer product. The soundtrack works perfectly as a standalone album.The band was already working on Dark Side Of The Moon during this period, but production was interrupted when the band travelled to France to score the movie.
